take bus

--jiggy-mama, nashville tn. Dec 1, 2009

Nightlife tip, Short Drive

Never buy any tickets or tours within your resort. Do your research outside of the hotel first. Club bracelets can be a deal because the get you in without waiting in line-ups and they provide the transportation to get there. They will do the same for you if you buy them from the guys on the street. It is only 15 pesos to take a bus anywhere and they will treat you like a rock star for less money!

Shopping tip, Short Drive

Go to flea market #28 its an experience.you can get some good deals if you can talk the prices down. You can catch the bus outside the Hotel for about 60 cents and we got a Taxi back for around 10.00 dollars.

Don't fall for the pictures!!!!

Angy Canadian....and we like EVERYTHING! Nov 23, 2009

I have done a lot of travelling and stayed in numerous resorts and this entire experience was by far the worst. We started ... off on a bad foot when we got to the hotel and our room wasn't what we had booked. They had given us two double beds on the ground floor when I had booked a king room on the top floor with an ocean view and balcony. They gave me a key to check out one of the rooms that I had originally booked and when we went to see the room it was occupied! We decided to take one of these rooms and they proceeded to tell me that it would be an extra $230 US to 'upgrade'! This was the room that I booked!!! We were on our first romantic holiday together so we sucked up the extra costs so that this holiday could be what we had planned it to be. We settled into our room and went down for dinner...good food, I will admit. We went to the lounge for drinks and was told that last call was @ 1am. The site advertises that it is 24 hour drinks. We thought that we would go to the disco within the resort for a dance...THERE IS NO DISCO...again something that was in the add. In the morning we wanted to go to the gym that they were suppose to have...NO GYM!! The weather was awful while we were there so we thought that we would take in a few tours, not something that we had originally planned to do. But with no sun, what else is there? I will warn you to not book within your resort. We easily could have save $400 US by booking less that a block away. BRUTAL!!!!! Our tours were continuously cancelled due to weather, and we were refunded our money on the last day for the ones we were unable to attend. Why didn't anyone advertise that November in Cancun is hurricane season? Thanx for that! The resort does however have a beach front...don't be fooled! It is located at the mouth of the lagoon and the water is disgusting! It is shallow for as far as you can walk, the tide doesn't change, it is brown, murky, smelly and gross! AGAIN, DISAPPOINTED! This is not the blue water that is in the pictures! However, we did get the chance to see it when we went pairasailing :) I would suggest this to anyone! With the weather being as bad as it was the resort did not make any effort to entertain us in any other way. There were no inside activities to occupy your time. The night shows were only an hour long so this didn't make up for any thing either. I found the staff to be quite rude, the front desk especially. We were charged extra for everything that we requested. This includes a lock box, a reefer, water (don't drink the bottles in the room, they cost $3 US each, go to walmart), local phone calls to make reservations. I am surprised the elevator wasn't coin operated! This resort may be cheap to get to but they revoke the savings once you get there. The restaurants were not open when they said that they would be in the program...this could be due to the weather, not sure? If and when you can get the sushi that is advertised...IT IS AMAZING! [...] Another word of advise for duty-free shopping...be aware that if you do not have a direct flight you will be charged extra for shipping at your first stop. We were charged and extra $30 US to box our duty-free purchases to get them into Canada...again revoking the savings! If you haven't already gotten the picture, we are extremely disappointed with our trip! We got over the fact that the sun wasn't shinning...don't go to Cancun in November is the life lesson learned here. But the fact that the resort was nothing that it had claimed to be is my main issue. Who is to blame here? The resort? [...] Either way I hope that this is rectified and they do not continue to disappoint others with their false advertising. I can say with the utmost certainty that I will never stay at an Oasis Resort[...] again! Be careful when booking, you get what you pay for!

Hotel was kept clean, staff was courteous, rooms were nothing special, but the walls are paper thin. Food was okay. The ... restaurants in the hotel were fine, but I recommend skipping the buffet all together. Location isn't great, but bus rides are cheap. I had read a bunch of reviews before my stay, and overall I think they were fairly accurate. Not a terrible place to stay, but nothing special either. I'll try a new place next time.

Great hotel for the money

Big ole Bear & Mrs. Big ole Bear Nov 11, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We had a great time. The only thing was getting adjusted to the food. Everyone else there seemed to enjoy it. The staff ... worked very hard and were very helpful. We had to tip to get washclothes though, but whats a buck here or there. The room was clean, the pool was great. The staff was very helpful. No one really tried to sell us time share there, they asked us about tours once or twice and that was it. The noise wasnt that bad either considering they are reconstructing the bridge. We tried Oasis Cancun and liked the food and the beach better there. We had a great visit and I would return.

The bad, the worse and the awful

Dreams Cancun Next Time Guy Nov 3, 2009

I'm a veteran of many an all-inclusive. This place was really poor. The restaurants were awful, no service and food was very ... low quality (exception for the buffet; it was good but the same thing every day). The beach was nice, but the chairs were uncomfortable. No beach drink service; no bars past 11pm and the bars they had have little real booze; the rum is in a bar gun! So, you end up drinking Corona. Anyway, the room has no operational window, so can't enjoy breezes in the room. Rooms are smelly; lots of mildew and broken fixtures, curtains, etc. The Dreams property down the road is WAY better; next time I pony up a few extra bucks. Don't waste your time at this hotel; it ruins the trip. Also, the timeshare people are really really harassing...no means no lady!

Go to the City on a Saturday night...even if you are not much of a "club" person. Way cool staff and the lights & sound system beat vegas places! Awesome. The guys on the street can get you past the line if you buy a pass (which you get at the club). Worth it.

OASIS Hotels...The NON All inclusive

All inclusive hunter. Nov 2, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The OASIS hotels are good for price and price only. Upon walking to our room, the big clump of hair in the hall wasn't the ... welcome mat we were expecting. I live in Mexico and go to cancun at least once a month. The Oasis hotels offer a good price, but the "all inclusive" is only half true. Most all inclusives include drinks in your room or at least a fridge. The OASIS chain pulled the fridges out and offer you a package of drinks to buy. Thats ridiculous! If you want a bottle of water they should have them provided. There is also too little staff at the bar, so be patient if you are waiting for a drink. The bartender might have to prepare his bar while the line of people just keeps getting longer. I've stayed in the Viva Beach, Palm Beach, and the Caribbean. The Cribbean is the best and newest. The only reason I stay here is the price, not the quality. If you are going budget and want to sit on a beach, this place is ok. If you want a place with impecable customer service and ammenities, pay a little more and look elsewhere. Overall, I've stayed in about 25 hotels in Cancun and the riviera maya. Just remember, you get what you pay for.

Great Deal for All Inclusive

[...] Oct 24, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

This hotel was pretty great. For an All Inclusive I was a little worried how it would turn out considering I spent under ... 600$ round trip for 6 nights. The food was pretty good. There are several options to choose from though I would have thought it being Mexico the Mexican restaurant would have been much better. The Asian/sushi and seafood restaurant by the pool had several options that were good. The alcohol that was part of the inclusive package was ok to say the least. As far as beer well Corona, and more Corona cause that's all they offer which kinda stinks. But on the other hand you can just get drinks of several varieties with liquor(non brand name). So overall I would say that is pretty good. Nightlife: Nightlife outside of the hotel well its Cancun so there's variety of things you can do. All the taxi drivers try to make you pay 10$ U.S which is a rip! You can always haggle a 4$ taxi from the hotel if you walk 100 yrds from the hotel. Or walk about 5 mins an take the bus for less than 4 dollars for four people. O and be sure to try and get some sort of deal as far as transportation from the Airport to the hotel. Apparently they only offer one taxi cab service from the airport to the hotel zone. Otherwise you can take the bus or be a sucker like our group an pay 60$ US.

Take the city bus or haggle a price with the taxi driver's. They all try an say no cheaper than 10 usd to go only a mile or so. This is not the case you can talk them down to around 4 dollars from the hotel to Senior Frogs.

The front desk was very business and to the point about additional charges ( in-room safe, room service, phone etc). We had a "lagoon view" room and found it decent. We were surprised that they had no blankets on the bed though. Don't touch the bottled water or you will be charged $3.00 each. Also no ice vending machine and if you want a refer they charge you $5.00 per day. The Mexican service was good but the food was mediocre. The first time we ate there our food was luke warm. The fish tacos were great and the ribs were terrible. The coffee was the best we've ever had. The Asian restaurant was much better but the a/c was off and it was very hot and humid while eating dinner. Because the place was so hot, I had reservation about the raw fish but eat it and enjoyed it anyway. The third restaurant never opened. The buffet was probably the best food at the hotel. Most was Tasteful and served hot. For breakfast, be sure to have the short-order cook you a personalized omelet. They also have a fresh fruit bar but unless you look for it you may not know it's there. The pool-side hamburger stand served fresh and hot burgers w/fries or nachos. Never realized the sushi bar until the last day. The bad points are this: they have a slew of time-share sales staff that make you believe they are hotel staff, they hound you from the moment you get there and will wake you up with phone calls to your room telling you they have a "welcome gift" for you. DON'T BELIEVE THEM! These people are the reason I'm giving the hotel a 3 star instead of 4 stars. The phone situation is also bad. It will cost you $3.00 to make a local 800 free call. Buy phone cards from the local stores and you can use the phones outside the hotel. If you want to rent a car, go to the hertz at Wal-Mart and you can rent one for $22.00 a day w/o insurance. Wal-Mart is a great place for any items you will need. Be carful about where you park the car. We went to Market 28 and ours was broken into and our passports, cameras and other items were stolen. That is a whole other story though and not a very good one. So the bottom line on this place is it's not a 5 star place and it could be a 4 star place if not for the time share sales staff harassing you from the moment you arrive.

Would recommend to a friend!

We truly had a terrific vacation. We would go back in a minute. We relaxed by the pool and played in the water. We tried ... the different places to eat. The staff was very friendly, althougth there were times it was difficult to communicate with them.

We didn't sleep here, but ate here

Marlaine Oct 11, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

When we checked into the Oasis Palm Beach Hotel, we were sent to a room at the Oasis hotel next door. We had to go back to ... the Palm Beach Hotel for all our food, drinks, etc. Our room was very nice and quiet, but a hike to get a drink. The food was great. We snuck a peek at the rooms at the Palm Beach; they were a little smaller but adequate. The Palm Beach hotel was much noisier, more younger people.

Entertainment tip, Short Drive

--Angy Canadian....and we like EVERYTHING!, Vernon, BC Nov 23, 2009

Shopping tip, Short Drive

Go to flea market #28 its an experience.you can get some good deals if you can talk the prices down. You can catch the bus outside the Hotel for about 60 cents and we got a Taxi back for around 10.00 dollars.

--Nana Jane, Panama City,Florida,USA Nov 14, 2009

Entertainment tip, Short Drive

Buy your tours at Walmart they are alot cheaper. Market 28 had the best deals. We took the bus everywhere, it was only 60cent a person.

Money savers tip, Short Walk

Be sure to take the ferry/boat taxi to Isla Mujeres. It costs between $15-$17 round trip per person. You can always take the booze cruise that costs around $55.

--Salem, Northern USA Nov 11, 2009

Nightlife tip, Short Drive

Go to the City on a Saturday night...even if you are not much of a "club" person. Way cool staff and the lights & sound system beat vegas places! Awesome. The guys on the street can get you past the line if you buy a pass (which you get at the club). Worth it.

--Dreams Cancun Next Time Guy, Phx, AZ Nov 3, 2009

Nightlife tip, Short Drive

Take the city bus or haggle a price with the taxi driver's. They all try an say no cheaper than 10 usd to go only a mile or so. This is not the case you can talk them down to around 4 dollars from the hotel to Senior Frogs.

--HOTEL HATER!, BRONX NY Oct 10, 2009

Dining tip, Short Drive

Go to downtown. Take the R1 bus and hit the restaurants.

--traveling man, NJ Sep 24, 2009

Shopping tip, Short Drive

Pay for Taxi 10$ each way to downtown Cancun

Recreation/Attractions tip, Long Walk

Buy your extra activities at the walmart post and do try to bargain.

--Luis, Orlando, FL Sep 8, 2009

Shopping tip, Short Drive

Not much shopping that I was interested in, there was a small mall approx 15 minute taxi drive. The usual tourist stuff, but they did have a nice jewelery store where we did get a good deal after about 2 hours of negotiating. You have to bargain for pretty much everything. Be very firm on what you are prepared to pay!

--carol, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 2, 2009

Entertainment tip, Short Drive

must got to Coco Bongo!!

--Ryan, Indiana Aug 31, 2009

Money savers tip, Short Walk

There is a bus stop right outside the hotel. Bus only cost $15 pesos for 2 people. Very convenient, stops at all major areas of the city and hotel zone. Much more affordable than the taxis.

--Texas traveler, Houston, Tx Aug 25, 2009

Money savers tip

You can save a lot of money by riding the local bus. If you want to get to Chichen-Itza, Xel-Ha, X-Caret, and etc, take the local R-1 or R-2 bus and go to the "ADO" bus station, which will take you approximately 10 minutes.

--vacationlover, NYC Aug 25, 2009

Shopping tip

Take the local bus downtown to Market 28 for souvenirs & gifts (~7.50 pesos each way, when I went). Many vendors sell the same merchandise. Shop around at different vendors before you buy because everybody will want to give you a "good deal" on what you want. Negotiate, negotiate, negotiate, and don't buy at the first place you come to, no matter how hard they try to sell.

--clio, Tallahassee, FL Aug 21, 2009

Dining tip, In Hotel

great food and lots of variety

--Rene, Dallas, TX Aug 21, 2009

Recreation/Attractions tip, Long Walk

Take the Jungle Tour! Includes a private boat to "the jungle" and snorkeling. There are numerous activities available through the hotel but the least expensive ones are in town. Activities not booked through the hotel are easier to negotiate in price especially when you are paying with US Dollars :)TAKE AN UNDERWATER CAMERA!!!

--1st time snorkeler, Los Angeles, CA Aug 18, 2009

Dining tip, In Hotel

Take dress shorts as well or the staff won't let you eat at the 2 out of 6 restaurants
