The Melrose is a decent place to stay. Nice location if you are visiting someone at GW, going to the Kennedy Center and ... Georgetown is a decent, but do-able walk if the weather is good. Probably not a 4star but it seems a lot of hotels in DC are overrated. The service was great-nice people work there. The room was good, decent bathroom, shower was ok, tub a little worn down. Bad pillows-which might seem like a litte thing until you try and sleep. Overall-I'd recommend the Melrose if you can get a good deal on the price.

Walk down to Georgetown...it is definitely worth the trip, tons of shopping and restaurants. The waterfront is right there too. Great food there as well.

There are several great spots for a quick breakfast in the immediate area. On 23 and Mass. there is a Bread and Chocolate - great breakfast, Next door to the hotel is a Marvelous Market, great for light breakfast or quick lunch. And on 25 (1 block from hotel) there is a Trader Joes - wine, cheese, etc.

Ron Oct 10, 2009
The hotel staff was attentive but the valet parking was problematic due to the small drop-off area. The $38 nightly charge ... exceeded average area rates and it an avergage of nearly 10 minutes to retrieve your car. The room size was great and comfortable. The continental breakfast was upscale with waiters and cloth napkins.

The location was great. Very close to the metro station. My husband and I were there on vacation. Prices for a drink at the ... bar in the hotel were overpriced, I would recommend purchasing beer at the liquor store next door. The price for parking is outrageous. When we got our car back there was a big long scratch across the side of the car. You think after paying them all that money for your car just to sit there, they would take care of it for you.

Orbitz Nd the Melrose Hotel, Wa, DC
Davejazz Jul 11, 2009
Very good location to the Metro for sight seeing. Little stores nearby for food, etc. Did not receive 20% discount offered ... after room was booked. Hotel said to ask Orbitz. Orbitz said it was up tto the hotel. I could have saved 200$. I will not use Orbitz again, I will book it on my own. Food in restaurant too expensive.

NOT WHAT I EXPECTED
XieXie Jul 9, 2009
When I arrived, the hotel didn't have my reservation and made one for me then at a higher price (which I didn't know until ... the next morning). The hotel was OK but not what I expected for the price. The bed, the pillows and the linens were not very high quality; the room furnishing antiquated; the bath not modernized. I wouldn't book there again in spite of the good location.

The Melrose used to be my favorite DC hotel. Unfortunately, it needs upgrading. The carpeting in our room was shabby and ... dirty, the shelf over the sink was falling off the wall,(nothing would stay on it because of the slope) and you couldn't get into the closet with someone at the sink; not enough lighting in the room, only one bedside table. Get the picture?

The room was very large for a city hotel. Large king size bed was very comfortable. Room was very clean and smelled fresh. ... Separate desk area with a small refrigerater is a nice touch. Location was perfect as we were picking up our daughter at George Washington University for a break.

This was my second stay at The Melrose, and I'll probably book there again because the location is perfect and the price is ... great. The room was perfectly clean and attractive and the staff is professional, though not friendly. It is great if you have only one person in a room. The rooms are very small and the bathroom is tiny, so I wouldn't recommend it for couples or families.

Good Location
Patricia Mar 19, 2008
The location of the Melrose was very convenient. Walking distance to Georgetown, a metro station and the Kennedy Center ... (however a free shuttle to the Kennedy Center is located at the metro station a few blocks from the hotel). The room was a nice size. The down side was the limited vanity space. While a pedestal sink adds charm, there was no vanity space other than a small shelf above the sink, large enough to hold only a few small items. The air conditioning was not working during our visit. While it was still winter, we had a few unseasonabely warm days and our room was very warm even with the heat turned down. The only option offered by the hotel was to open the windows.

Good for business travel
Belinda Nov 21, 2007
The Melrose Hotel has a good location. I felt safe in the neighborhood. There is a public library across the street. Good ... food blocks away from there but there is a convenience store on one side and a Catholic church on the other. The room was very nice, clean, neat, well decorated and the hotel in general is very well maintained. Everything was functioning properly. There was a desk and a chair, other two chairs, the bathroom was separate from the vanity area and sink with a long counter. The closet had a good size for hanging clothes and they provided two suitcase stands. The staff is corteous and helpful. I have no complaints.

susana Sep 9, 2007
The Melrose in D.C. was very upscale, had a very spacious and nicely furnished room. It was very clean. There was a seperate ... area for the desk and a seperate vanity from the main bathroom. Most of the hotel staff was very friendly. Actually getting information about our reservation from the hotel was extremely difficult though. Communication leave a lot to be desired. In this process, several employees of the hotel were very unfriendly and not helpful. Overall though, the stay was pleasant. The valet staff was extremely nice and one hotel employee made our stay very pleasant (he went out of his way). The locaion was very close to a great deal of attrations, we could walk to Georgtown and the metro easily. The Smithsonian, Washington Monument (the mall) etc. was a little further, but can be walked. Keep in mind that parking is extra around these areas, your vehicle is parked in a garage overnite (around 40.00).

My review of Melrose Hotel
renee Jul 22, 2007
My card to open the door did not work properly and I needed staff to reset the card every time I went in and out--this was ... very unacceptable. They came up to my room each time but it should have been fixed. I needed assistance getting into my room about six times over three days. The location worked well for me but I do not think I would consider staying here again. The last time management came to open the door they were more annoyed and not at all apologetic.
