If you like taking a bath in sand
Terry Aug 18, 2009
Well when we got there, there was 6 to 8 inches of Muddy water in the tub and someone's Belt hanging on the shower head. ... Then the next day I went to take a bath and I turned the water on it looked clean at first but by the time it was full enough to get in you could see the sand at the bottom of the tub and I decided not to bathe. Then when brushing my teeth I could not figure out why it felt like I had grit in my toothpaste and that was the sand in the water there too.

An Ok Getaway
Kiah the artist Aug 8, 2009
The hotel was nicely located on the beach with great access. The rooms were terrible, the bed uncomfortable, no microwave, ... refrigerator tiny bathrooms and the elevator was very scary. Each time the elevator would stop on a floor it would give a massive jolt and sometimes wouldn't even take you to the right floor. The staff would have nothing to say about it. The staff could not give directions to any place they would just you a map and say "well here's a map". Not a very enjoyable stay. The best part was when we were not in the room.

not as good as it used to be

We were looking forward to a laid back don't have to drive anywhere vacation. They were so friendly at check in....We were ... told we had to wear a bracelet in the pool. We removed our braclets to go to dinner and were told when we asked for more that they only give them out at check in. however no one actually checks to make sure anyone is wearing the bracelets. In fact we were the only ones wearing them. you cant take room towels to the pool and you can't take pool towels to the room. So you have to be wet and cold in the elevator. There are no chairs available on the beach or deck area at night. They are stacked and locked up. Being a night owl this was inconvienient. The room only had one chair. there were four of us and two double beds, but only one chair? and no table or refrigerator...The wireless internet connection was at a very low signal rating for most of our stay, but they do have free wireless internet. One of the maids was having a personal conversation about someone being in jail with another guest while she had someone else's room open. I felt it was unprofessional and an invasion of privacy. Another maid entered my room saw I there and shut the door. She then reopened the door and said they were [*] had sent her to check on all the $@%& in the room and asked me if I needed anything. I said some extra towels even though I was a little taken aback at the language. The next day when someone came to clean the room they took the extra towels back. I remember it being a reasonbly priced hotel right on the beach during our family vacations as a child, but as an adult I see an old run down hotel that spends its time policing its guest, but not actually keeping out the problematic non guest.

Terrible service for the Holiday
Cece Jul 6, 2009
Hotel was in great location. However our guaranteed check in time was almost 30 minutes late. We arrived at noon, and asked ... if our room was ready yet. We were told no, but that it would be ready in 2 hours. we returner at 2:45 and was told in 15 minutes. Then after being told no, in another 15 minutes it would be ready. After about 45 minutes doing this, we waited until the guaranteed check in time @ 4pm to ask again. It still wasn't ready. Finally at about 4:25 we were given a room, but then were told because of the problems we had checking in, we would be comped breakfast for each morning we were there. I argued that this was included with our reservation and was told by Kelly, that even though we had it in writing, You at Orbitz was incorrect in telling us our breakfast was included. Because we paid a 'special' rate, it was not included. Needless to say, we will not ever stay there again.

Difficult Check-In
Nickname Jul 6, 2009
The check-in at this hotel is 4PM. This is a beach front hotel so I would think that many people would get a room here so ... that they could spend some time on the beach. With check in this late, it can really shorten that first day of a fun trip. We arrived a little early, at about 2:45, and the people at the front desk told us that we would need to wait to check in. No problem with that. They took our number and told us that they would call us when our room was ready. We waited until 4:00 rolled around and then checked back at the front desk. They told us to come back in 5 minutes. We walked around a bit and then checked back. Then they said that we could have a room in about 30 minutes. So we waited again. When we came back there was a new staff there and they knew nothing about the phone number they were supposed to call when the room was ready. It seems that the previous staff was just shoving people out the door so that they wouldn't have to bother with us. We talked to other guests and they said that they had a similar experience. They still didn't want to give us a room until we got a bit more stern with them. It's a shame that they will only accomodate you if you get kind of mean. Then a room magically appeared. We found out that they had been giving rooms to people who came in after we got there at 2:45. If we hadn't spoken to them the way we did, we may have been waiting much longer. They did give us a late check out. So that was nice. The restaurant was good, it's a breakfast buffet. The bathroom in the room was kind of grungy from being old, though it looked like the maid had done a good job cleaning it.

Going To The Dogs
Steel Jul 5, 2009
Hotel is old and in need of repairs/updating. We stayed in one of the 5-story towers. There are only two elevators, and one ... is down for repair for three weeks now. The other one is small, hot, and makes a lot of noises (passed last inspection?). The work staff also had to share this one elevator and this made for LONG waits. They told me their hotel is "Pet Friendly" and that is an understatement. I must of saw over 50 dogs in two days there (several people had two and one even had three dogs!). Of course, you can hear the dogs barking in the rooms. I like dogs, but not all in one place. On the plus side, the staff were very friendly.

THE GOOD: The Holiday Inn Emerald Beach was located on the beach and had great amenities for families. You could walk from ... the indoor pool directly to the beach area outside. Our son played table tennis for hours with other children staying there. THE BAD: Some unfortunate events soured our stay. The bathroom faucet leaked continually, the air conditioner made a squeaky noise the whole time it was on, and room service forgot our order. This was no minor inconvenience. The room service staff told us it was busy and would be an hour for room service- were we sure we wanted to order? Yes, it's okay. He asked again, are you SURE you want to wait. Yes. Two hours later we were told there was no order recorded for us and that they were closed, sorry. So my suspicion is that the man did not want to take the order and pitched it. At 11 pm my husband had to make the rounds to see what was open close by. The night manager heard my complaint and said she would get back to us. She did not. We did speak to the day manager the next day who was apologetic.

Very Considerate to Visitors
Patricia Apr 19, 2008
The Holiday Inn - Emerald Beach was a fantastic place to stay and located right on the beach. The shuttle driver from the ... Airport and the staff, from the time I checked in, until I the time I checked out, were very polite, considerate and very helpful. During my 3-day stay I had room service bring breakfast, it was always brought promptly and hot. Any questions we had about the area as far as shopping, etc. were answered and always with a smile. Rooms were kept very clean and coffee (I had asked for extra) was kept stocked. It was also very quiet at the hotel, so when you wanted to rest, you rested well. I would recommend anyone going to Corpus Christie to stay at that hotel.
