Not worth the $

for the cost of the room ($400/night for a premier king) I was very disappointed, the shower drain was poor and there was no ... fan in the bathroom. The rooms were small, and the 'garden view' was pretty much non existent (we were on the 5th floor) Also it seemed to take a long time to get our ice buckets which we had asked to stay in the room in the first place but I don't think the maids could read English unfortunately. Also I know it was late at night 12am but there was no one to hail a cab for you. I was very disappointing for that amount of money I thought it would have been 10 times nicer, save your money, you could get similar deal at a Marriott etc. and wouldn't even noticed the difference. I live in the city (this was a special night out)and trust me you can stay somewhere else close to everything for a better deal.

An abundance of first rate dining. We've always chosen the TAJ (and former Ritz) when visiting Boston - for its proximity to a variety of amenities.

Taj Boston - Not what it is rated as!
Di Zeiger Oct 20, 2009
Upon arrival, we took showers and were not thrilled with the fact that the shower was at best warm. We called the front desk ... and they said they would have engineering check into the matter. This scenario played out three times and we didn't have hot water until we checked out. We had to bed to have some sort of finanical consideration given and that wasn't much. Also, upon check-out, I called and attempted to give the bell captain our valet# so they could retrieve our car - the bell captain said not to bother and it would be no problem getting the car when we came down. The was completely wrong, instead we waited 30 minutes and nobody appeared to understand what happened to the car. Just a bad service experience in general!

This hotel does not compare with the Taj hotels in India. It was a super location, the staff was great, the room and the ... bathroom were large, the bed was great, but the room service and the restaurant were grossly overpriced.

Nice, but not worth the cost
Boston local Jul 8, 2009
The Taj was formerly the Ritz. My wife and I are locals and stayed there for our 20th anniversary. The staff was very ... friendly, check-in was a breeze. The location is great - many restaurants within walking distance although no restaurant in the hotel, only a bar/cafe. The room was nice but the walls a bit thin. We could occasionally hear muffled sounds of people in the next room talking and awoke to their 4am wake-up call. I also found it annoying that despite paying a premium to stay there, they charged exorbitant amounts for amenities (parking was $40/night; in-room movie was $16/night etc). Overall, the hotel room was like many others I've stayed in. If you can get a room for a reasonable price, by all means take it. Otherwise I'd look elsewhere.

great getaway
Weekend Getawayer Jul 7, 2009
Great hotel. I do not stay at luxury hotels often, so I have a limited comparison base, but I had a fantastic experience at ... this hotel. Additional items, ie. food, were rather pricey. Spent $50 on breakfast for two people in their cafe. This was a Saturday morning, continental breakfast is only available M-F, I did not get the chance to try the continental breakfast. But the price of such things are to be expected. Overall, I had a great time.

If you are going to do the freedom trail, you have to cross Boston's public park, so it is a bit of a walk. But since you are in Boston, you should be prepared to walk.

The Hotels itself was nice but not updated. The bed was great, the room was clean but you had to dress up to even go to the ... bar. I also didn't appreciate the $10.95 charge for internet.

Exceptional Service
Wendy Sep 21, 2008
The staff was so courteous and helpful. They went above and beyond with the simplest of requests and yet they did not seem ... pushy. If that's not enough reason to stay there -- having the Boston Garden just outside the door was wonderful. Our room looked over the shops of Newburry Street. I can't wait to go back!

Perfect weekend getaway
Marc Aug 3, 2008
The Taj Boston is very luxurious and the guest services are superb. The room is large and well appointed with antique ... furnishings and marble accents in the bath. The bathroom consists of separate bath and vanity rooms. The walk-in closet was spacious. The Sunday tea is not to be missed.

The hotel's central location places it within easy walking distance of the shops on Newbury Stret as well as the Public Garden and historic sites.

Perfect location, hotel somewhat disappointing
Dr. Carla Jun 15, 2008
The location is absolutely key. We stayed in one of the newly renovated Commonwealth rooms overlooking Comm Ave. Our room was ... very spacious and comfortable. The phone by the bed was non-functional. We had to walk across the room to the desk whenever we needed to use the phone. Considering this was a newly renovated wing/room, the counterspace/drawers located in the bathroom area were a cheap laminate circa 1972. The saving grace of this hotel is definitely the location.

Club Level and Location, Location, Location
Frances May 25, 2008
The Taj is in the perfect location for shopping and dining in Boston. My daughter and I stayed alone, without my husband ... being able to join us. Close to Newbury St and Copley Place Mall, a walk to BU and the Fenway, overlooking the public garden and lots of resturants in the area. We felt safe walking and experiencing the city. The Club Level offered tastings at breakfast, lunch, tea, dinner and evening times. A nice place to stop, relax, have a bite and a beverage. Overall, a great stay, rooms a little small since it is such an old structure, however they were meticulous.

Right in the Action
Karen Mar 16, 2008
This was our first time at the Taj. The place was elegant and the architecture lovely (they don't make them like they used ... to). That's bad because the rooms are a bit small and a bit old. The biggest downside of this place is the Valet Parking. There is a 20-30 minute wait to get your car because the garage is like six blocks away. We found out the hard way. The valets hustle but it is an inconvenience. So plan ahead.

Anish Feb 17, 2008
The decor and charm is the same and the location unbeatable. Boston Commons, frog pond are literally across the street and ... the shops/restaurants on Newbury street are right next door. Would have like a better fitness center and a swimming pool but otherwise a great hotel. Very friendly staff and great concierge.
