Very Nice Hotel
student traveler Dec 7, 2009
Our experience was very nice. I called to ask if we could check in about an hour early and the woman at the front desk was ... very friendly and let us do that. She also told me she upgraded our room from what it originally was. (Not sure if that was true). The room was very clean and the bed comfy. The room was small but it was perfect for just one night.Wasn't loud at all and we had the windows open for some fresh air. The location was great, just about a block or two from Union square. Called down for ice and it was brought right away. I also called down to the front desk for recommendations for restaurants near by and they couldnt seem to give me any over the phone. They wanted me to come down so they could point me in the right direction. We found great restaurants all around so that didn't end up being a problem. It just is nice when the staff can recommend something. Overall our stay was wonderful for the price we paid. Would stay again.

Overall the experience with the hotel was fine; we did almost have a bit of an issue with check-in. I had made the ... reservation for the hotel on November 24th, with obviously the intent to stay on December 5th. When we arrived at the hotel my name was not on the reservation list for December 5th, instead it was for the November 24th date, the day I made the reservation. I did have my confirmation print out and luckily we were able to stay in a room (even though it was quite small and not the room we reserved) and things worked out fine. We do have another trip planned through this site for late in January and hope the only issues we encounter are weather related

Nice hotel, but small rooms
Kenny Nov 24, 2009
The Hotel is in an excellent location. You can walk to a number of great fine dining locations and city life. The rooms were ... rather small, but clean. The beds were AMAZING!!!! So comfortable. The rooms were very clean, but did need a few small touch-up repairs. The heat doesn't seem to be on at all and they actually had to bring in a space heater for us. The "free-wifi" doesn't work in the rooms very well. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and helped us with any problems. Overall, the hotel was ok, but location was great!

Daughter and I spent a week sight-seeing, our first visit and we loved our motel! Great staff, rooms and location. ... Breakfast could of been a little better if eggs or cereal, it was only croissants, muffins or fruit. Charming hotel, but you can be awakened early morning by neighbors' alarm clocks/bathroom plumbing. Beds are comfortable. We would stay there again anytime.

This is a fine hotel for the price. The location is ideal. You can walk to the Wharf, if you're in shape because those ... hills are crazy. There's tons of places to eat and drink right around you. The rooms are small. It was just the two of us and we had just enough room for two carry on bags. The bed however makes it worth it. I wanted to steal the bed. It's perfect after a long day of sightseeing. The bathroom is insanely small. You cannot fit two people in that room at once. No fan. No counter. Not great water pressure. The bathroom is maybe three steps from the bed. You hear everything that goes on in that bathroom. Great decor. Free breakfast is just carbs, OJ and coffee. Good to get something before your real breakfast. Would stay here again.

The hotel was located very close to Union Square and the Trolley Tram - therefore easy to access all tourist ... locations. Although the rooms were very small, they were very clean and well serviced. It was a bonus that breakfast was included in the fee. Sadly, the heating was centralised and only in service until another guest requested that it be turned off. This meant some very cold nights.
Traveler type: Couples
If going to Fishermans Wharf, catch the No 30 bus or the F tram which is only $2 as opposed to the Trolley Tram which is more expensive and often too full to collect passengers.

Cozy Accomodations and Great Location
Anniversary Couple Jun 1, 2009
The hotel is conveniently located to many shops and dining opportunities with the gates of Chinatown 3 blocks away. We found ... the easiest way around was to buy the 3 (or 7) day pass for the Muni that covers the Cable cars (next to impossible on the weekends), the busses and the street cars. There is very few street vendors compared to the other areas we visited, so you are not always being asked to buy things, however like much of the rest of the city, there is no shortage of people begging for money. The beds are very comfortable and rooms are fairly quiet. There is no restaurant or dining in the hotel, however they have complimentary wine tasting in the evenings. They told us they will be getting their license in the next couple of weeks, so they will open the bar and the wine tastings till be going away. There is a diner next door and a 24 hour Walgreen's across the street. The staff is friendly and knowledgable about the area, especially the transportation options. The wireless internet only seems to work in the Lobby area and they also provide 2 computers and a printer for guest use.
Traveler type: Couples
2 blocks away on O'Farrell is a nice little Irish place (Johnny Foley's) that offers an upstairs for some relatively quiet food and drink, or a dueling piano bar downstairs on the weekends. Many other nightlife options are available and easy to find on sfguide.com.

Great Deal and location!
Kat May 28, 2009
We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel. It is a bargain, especially considering the location. It's in an older building, so ... the hallways, staircases and rooms can be a little narrow, but that adds to the charm. Our room had a very comfortable bed with plenty of pillows, a down comforter, flat screen TV, coffee pot, internet access, hair dryer, etc. There are full-length mirrors on the closet and bathroom door (lots of extra storage in the closet) and a CD player in the radio. We did not go but there are evening wine tastings. Close to Union Square and Chinatown -- we loved being able to walk everywhere. Our room was very quiet and dark - the only sound being the bell on the streetcar, which made it all the more romantic! We will definitely stay here again.

Eat dim sum in Chinatown, and try to pick a restaurant that is somewhat off the main drag. Some of the best Chinese food I've had.

Unpleasant Experience
Unhappy Traveler May 28, 2009
The hotel location is great and convenient but, our guests have some bad experience on the first day. We originally booked ... for a queen size room but this hotel personnel cannot find our booking when we checked in the first day. The personnel seems very inexperienced and said he is new and there was a queen size room but not set up yet. So, at the end, they put us in a VERY tiny room.tiny bed and the door was half broken. Even though they switched us to a king size room the day after ...I just thought their booking system needs some MAJOR improvement since we already paid in full in advance and cannot get the room we requested? that's just very bad!!

Easy walk to major theaters.
