The Room we stayed in had bed bugs!!
Dan the Brewer Nov 17, 2009
Came into Detroit to visit a friend from college, but got more than we bargained for. There were bed bugs in room 515 where ... we stayed. The air conditioning did not work, there was a coffee pot to make coffee but no cups to drink it out of. We now have to have our house in Pennsylvania exterminated due to our best efforts to not bring the bugs home apparently failed.

When we returned to the hotel after dinner the temperature of our room was 88 degrees. We asked to be moved to another room ... and was but that room was very hot as well. We were told that it would take hours for the rooms to cool down because they had just turned the boilers off. It was impossible to stay in the room and it was already 10 PM. We decided to check out but the manager would not refund out money because we were impatient.

Luxury? Not so much. But clean.
gl88 Oct 30, 2009
The hotel was clean and basically quiet. Staff was friendly. Not what I would call luxury or posh however. The room did ... feel a bit small, and the business center printer was out of ink, they had no refills on hand. Also no breakfast to speak of, not even to pay for. For the money it's ok, although you might get better amenities at a chain like La Quinta or Holiday Inn. Don't forget to factor in parking, it's valet-only at $14 a night.

If you want to splurge a little, Michael Symon's Roast (in Downtown) was excellent. Also Pizza Papali or whatever it's called was great.

I was pleasantly surprised by the St. Regis. It is a great value and the rooms were very well appointed with premium bedding ... and furnishings, marble counters and Crabtree and Evelyn bath goods. For the price this hotel is the best thing going in downtown Detroit. The only issue we had was that there was not an ice machine so we had to get ice from the bar. The valet was quick and friendly. The desk staff was very friendly, accomidating and efficient. I will stay here again.

Disappointed Oct 11, 2009
They overbooked and sent us to a B&B. They were booked already. And the B&B worked hard to find us another hotel to stay at. ... Hotel St. Regis did nothing. We ended up at the Hyatt. I highly recommend staying at the Hyatt. Friendly staff.

A Interesting Hotel
Kind of surprised Sep 29, 2009
The hotel location wasn't the problem. When we arrived our room was not available. We were trying to dress for a event that ... started at 2:00, so we had to dress in the hotel washroom. After attending the program 3 1/2 hours later, are room still wasn't available. So we had to wait. When we finally got in our room, (which was very nice, clean and nicely decorated) there wasn't enough towels, wash cloths, nor soap so we had to request them. We were a little hungry and just wanted a light snack, however the snack room had been totally sold out. Two bags of peanuts was the only items available. The nose level in the hotel was very high, (even at 3:00 in the morning) however they did have a wedding party there which could have been the problem. This could be a very nice hotel, but they need a high level management director that would make sure the hotel runs smoothly. If I were staying longer then one night, I would have been very upset about how things were being conducted. I would recommend it for the price of the room but not if I expected a high level hotel. Also the shuttle bus was not available. The front desk staff was very friendly and commendating (they did hold our luggage since we won't able to get into a room)including the valet, who was very busy and I only saw one person working to park cars.

All in all it was an awesome stay. The hotel was beautiful inside and out. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were neat ... and clean. The only problem I encountered was the elevator. We waited for about 10 minutes for the elevator to come to our floor. Not a big deal just an inconvenience. Besides that we really enjoyed our stay!!!

Not if you want to Sleep
First-Time Visitor to Detroit Sep 21, 2009
We stayed 4 nights over Labor Day weekend. The front desk Manager, [...], was very gracious and helpful. He gave us a very ... good impression of the hotel. Hotel St. Regis is trying, and the rooms are in good condition, but they cannot overcome the extreme discourtesy of guests who come in at 2:30 am talking loudly and slamming doors. This happened every night. (We finally figured out that the bars close at 2:00 am.) Sound reverberates down the hallway, especially slamming of metal doors. Also, draperies in our room did not completely cover the window, so light from the street comes in at night. If you want to sleep through the night, do not stay here. Also, be aware that parking costs $14.00/night.

I have an overall great stay. I was going to a church breakfast at the cobo. It was pretty clean, but I occasionally noticed ... small things that were dirty, such as the elevator door needed cleaning. and dust in some corners (clean freak). outside of that. very very nice hotel. great price. Probably ONE of the best hotels ive ever been to. their "24 hour convenience shop" absolutely sucked though. it was a small room filled with insignificant things. they should get more food food in there. and also, there's not many restaurants around. but we were across the street from the police station so that was good. there were some roudy teens and I called security and we didnt hear them for the rest of the night. security quieted them down within 3 mins. I will DEFINITELY stay there again.

Good option for downtown Detroit
Turk Sep 9, 2009
We saw Steely Dan at Motor City Casino and checked out the Detroit Jazz Festival, so we didn't spend much time at the St ... Regis. Rooms were small but clean, well maintained. Bathroom was very nice (extended shower bar, elevated toilet seat - great features that make a difference.) St Regis is a smart choice and a comfortable option. The staff worked hard and was very friendly. The only downside were the stiff pillows and that the alarm clock was missing. We are planning another trip to Detroit and will definitely stay here again. The casinos are way too smokey (and expensive) to stay there overnight. This time, we'll check out the fitness room and other features.
Traveler type: Couples
Overnight valet parking was $14, about average for all local hotels. Take it without question. Don't park on the streets overnight. Also, take your own CDs or DVDs. The DVD player plays CDs so you have your own tunes in your room. Cab service is OK, but we got a real stooge for a driver coming back from the casino. Be careful. Ask the driver if he knows where the St Regis is located, just to be sure. Or, drive yourself.

The Kootzes Aug 16, 2009
I was so impressed by the ambiance & decor of the hotel for the price! Our room was very clean & recently updated... as was ... the hotel lobby. Walking into a room with free wireless internet, a dvd player & an ipod charging dock/alarm clock was awesome too. I've stayed in very expensive hotels that don't have any of those things! The doors to the rooms are old & heavy, so a few times it sounded like people were fighting & slamming doors, but it never woke us up! All of the good things outweight the few small things that are pretty typical to any hotel!

The Casinos & other downtown attractions are just a 2 or 3 mile straight shot from the hotel & with the ability to get your car from Valet as much as needed without paying each time is awesome!

Quiet...NOT!
cor Aug 15, 2009
even though we requested a quiet room it was not. First of all the gap between the door and the frame was huge which allowed ... too much light for sleeping. Our room was near the elevator and the maids supply closet. We arrived from the east coast and wanted to sleep upon arrival to catch up on our early departure. The staff took it's break out side our door. Other that that the staff was courteous. My 17 year old wanted to use the gym facilities which were located a block away. She was with my husband she was refused admittance. We did not encounter this problem anywhere else in Michigan so evidently it is not a state policy. She is training for athletic tryouts and needed to use a treadmill. Shame on this hotel for advertising a gym and not delivering.

Bed Bugs Galore
Frequent Travler Aug 13, 2009
This place is terrible. My wife found BED BUGS crawling all over her after waking up from a nap. That's right, I said bed ... bugs were in the bed and crawling everywhere. We did move to another room, in hindsight we should have checked out. There was also hair left in the shower from previous tenants. Half of the building is empty and it reminded me of "The Shining." The entire place feels abandoned and $17 a day for valet parking is unacceptable for this level of hotel. Not to mention that it's in the ghetto and my wife and I both thought we heard gun shots.

Hotel St. Regis
Alex Aug 9, 2009
The hotel itself was fine, however, when we checked in (after we paid), they had given our room away. We called well about ... 5pm the night we were to check in and said the flight would not come in until 5am to please hold the room. That did not happen, we were also traveling with our 9-month old son. When we asked the lady what were we suppose to do, she had informed us that there was a room but the bathroom was the only thing used. She offered to quickly clean the bathroom and we can have the room. We took it because we had our baby with us and just flew the red-eye. Needless to say, the bathroom was not the only thing used. The bed was clearly slept in also. We were not pleased. The manager was extremely apologetic and helpful, but it was still aggravating our room was given away after we paid for it.

Price was right, staff was friendly and helpful. Comfortable room. Hotel was quiet. Found a nice place for breakfast across ... the street. Hotel is next to the old GM building (Now the Cadillac Building) and the Fisher Building, both Art Deco masterpieces! Is within walking distance of WSU and the Detroit Institute of Arts, but there's not much in between and we felt more comfortable driving.
