1 day prior to arrival I called the hotel to request a specific room location, at that time I was advised that would have to ... be done at check-in. Upon arrival I requested a specific room location only to be advised that would cost an additional $40.00 dollars. I then request a higher floor, only to be told that there were no other rooms available. They also stated that the website is given specific locations( 2nd floor) and that for furture reservations call them directly. Later that evening we asked the staff at the check-in desk was the hotel full; the staff stated no only 60% full. As a courtesy and to promote good customer service the staff should have granted the floor change, maybe I would recommend and stay at this property again. Instead the ladies were rude, unyielding and a matter of fact about the whole ordeal. Also there is a hidden $10.00 daily parking fee which you will be charged at check out!

Very Comfortable stay, beautiful view
35th High School Reunion Oct 19, 2009
This is a very nice hotel, comfortable, clean rooms with fantastic views and all the imenities (coffee maker, micro wave, ... blow dryer, refrigerator, iron and board). Security gates for parking at $5 per day was a turn off and I'm writing a letter to management about it. My guest and I were there for a High School Reunion, each attendee received a parking validation for free parking but because we were staying over night, we were required to pay for parking. We had already paid for the room, why should we pay for parking too and if we did not stay at the hotel, we would have been able to park for free, doesn't seem fair. The maid service was excellent and [...] was especially helpful and friendly. I would certainly stay again but only at a discounted rate since there is an extra charge for parking. Certainly the Hilton's don't need the extra money - the recession is not affecting everybody, the hotel was full with guest either dining, partying, attending a conference or staying overnight. The parking lot was full.

Decent hotel in good location
SoCal Traveler Aug 24, 2009
This hotel is very close to the water and fairly close to shopping. The wait to check-in was a little long. Parking is ... gated so you have to deal with the hassle of a key card and getting stuck when the ticket machine doesn't work. Asked front desk for a toilet plunger one morning and was told I'd have to wait until maintenance came in at 8. I was surprised a 14 story hotel couldn't scrounge up a plunger in the off hours. Also, to leave the hotel you have to turn right and then make a u-turn at the next stoplight to go basically anywhere. It's not a big deal but it gets old. The room was satisfactory though. Nice having a fridge and microwave. Too bad no freezer for microwave dinners. Did not try the fitness center or other services.

Oakland Coliseum is not too far. I went to an A's game while in town. Lots of fun, but a bit expensive. Almost $20 just for parking.

San Francisco Business Stay
lilsis Aug 9, 2009
check in a little slow but thats ok. room was very nice but also very small (it was a double bed). The chair at the desk was ... so large it touched the bed, therefore you couldn't walk around the bed and open/close the curtains. upon checkout, i told the gal on duty that on the website it mentioned the hotel had free parking and now there is a charge. She mentioned the rules recently changed about parking and now there was a fee. i didn't mind but it said up to 2 weeks before i made the reservation on the hotel website that there was free parking. She said it was changed over 2 months ago. she wanted me to contact someone on this card, i refused because i said i shouldn't have to do that, i was irriated.

Enjoyed my stay!
calgal18 Aug 2, 2009
The hotel is in a great location, close to the Bay Bridge, Berkeley, and lots of shops and restaurants. Since it's in ... Emeryville, it's cheaper than San Francisco, but still with an enjoyable view. Too bad they just started charging for parking! Everything appeared new and/or remodeled, and clean. I enjoyed the lemonade near the elevators when checking in, and the chocolate kisses on the nightstand! Only thing missing was a pool, although the hot tub was enjoyable...

Walls too Thin!
Lily Jul 27, 2009
We've stayed here a couple of times before, and have always been pleased, especially as the location is perfect for accessing ... the City in just 10 minutes, and also just 5 minutes or less from Berkeley. There were 2 major surprises this time, both negative. First, a minor one, the hotel now charges $5/day for parking. This isn't a big burden money-wise, but there i now only one way in, off a side street, and one way out, and you are issued a key card which you have to use to get in or out. It's just kind of a hassle. Far more troublesome was that we were awakened from our sleep at 2:45 by our "next door neighbors", a group of women returning from a wedding that had taken place at the hotel that evening. They stayed up talking loudly till after 5:30 AM, and it was if they were in or room! At 3:15 I called the front desk and he sent security up to assess the situation (we heard the guy knock on the door and exchange a few words with them), but the talking continued as loud as ever. Finally at 3:34 I called the front desk again, and was informed - politely - that the group of women had rented the room for the night, and as long as they were not having a party, using profanity, or otherwise behaving badly, there was nothing the hotel could do. As he said to me, "We cannot force guests to go to sleep." This meant we were up till 5:30, finally went back to sleep, and awakened far later than we'd anticipated, throwing our plans for the next day off. I was amazed at how thin the walls were, and also that the clerk on duty daid flat out there was nothing he could do.

MarshallGrande Jun 21, 2009
We arrived before official check-in time and had to wait till rooms were ready for check-in. Other than that, everything ... went nice and smooth. If you are going to be in Oakland or Berkeley, this is a great location. It's actually easier to get around on surface streets than to get back on the freeway (we learned the hard way)!

nicely located, well managed hotel
Happyfeet Mom Jun 8, 2009
I like the hotels amenities, microwave, coffee maker, and an empty small referigerator. I put the super market bought fruit ... and drink in the refrigerator. The Hong Kong East Ocean restaurant is 5 minutes driving distance. That restaurant has bay bridge ocean view and the very good sea food. One thing unexpected is that we ordered two double beds room but were assigned one king bed room when we got there.

The hotel was perfect for our one night stay. We drove to San Fransisco from Sacramento and spent the whole day their before ... crossing back on the bay bridge to Emeryville to check into the Hilton. The check in was easy and the room was just what we wanted. Nice big bed with a bay view and everything in the room which included microwave, fridge, tv, etc. Very clean and nice shower as well. The only thing that was negative was room service stopped at 10pm so we couldnt order a very late night dessert for our anniversary. If visiting to bay area and need a place to stay without being overpriced and free parking..stay here!

Good location with a car
Edward Aug 19, 2007
The Hilton Garden Inn is located almost at the East End of the Bay Bridge, adjacent to the 880 freeway, so it is convenient ... to both the East Bay and San Francisco. It's a clean, safe quiet hotel, located in relatively unpopulated area of Emeryville. The staff was friendly, the room was clean, the parking and access were easy. The room had a desk, a flat screen TV, a microwave and a refigerator, and was very clean. The upper level rooms have beautiful views. There's a yacht harbor and bay-front part nearby if you want to take a walk and take pictures. The restaurant food was decent, but a bit pricey. It's up to the Hilton standards, and I'd stay there again if I needed to.

We enjoyed our three night weekend stay at this hotel. The staff was friendly and professional. The food was good although ... something in the breakfast of eggs and hash browns made us sleepy. We had very good appetizers in the evening selected from the bar menu. Our room was immaculate and the decor was up to date. Feather pillows and bed were as good as home! We would go back.
