Nice Newer Place to Stay Near Napa

Greg P Sep 8, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We stayed here over Labor Day Weekend and loved it. It is a little drive to actual Wine Country, but it is an enjoyable ... drive with plenty of scenery. This is a "green" hotel and really the only thing you notice is a low-flow shower head. Otherwise everything operated normally. The on-site restaurant had good food, good service and a good wine selection. The beds were a little firm, but the pillows are plump and we felt well rested. Don't come here if you are looking for "high-end" finishes and simply expect a nice clean place to stay with good staff and easy access to Napa.

It's not Napa, but it's nice.

Very clean, jacuzzi was small, great price, but farther from Napa then you think. The hotel itself is nice and relaxing, but ... it is not near anything nice- it's situated between a trailer park and a 24 hour seedy casino. No nice restaurants within several miles, except that there is a nice restaurant within the hotel itself with fresh and organic ingredients. The staff was friendly but the spa was out of our price range.

Comfortable and clean, but not super posh

Angela Sep 14, 2008

Though not centrally located in the heart of Napa Valley, this hidden gem is a great value for a weekend getaway in the wine ... country. But, just be weary of the fact that it could be a long drive back to the hotel after you've done some wine tasting in Napa. Don't come here expecting to stay in a luxurious, posh guest room - but that isn't to say the rooms don't have what you'd want. The rooms are equipped with all the right amenities, and are very clean. Pretty landscaping in the central courtyard. As this hotel prides itself on its eco-friendliness, the doors of the lobby let you know that it is LEED Gold certified (impressive) and there are displays showing the current levels of electricity and water being used by the hotel - kind of fun. Staff is friendly and helpful.

A Green Hotel with a Great Location and an Ecxcellent Value

Robert Jul 25, 2008

Would recommend to a friend!

This hotel was a real find and we loved the value and the location. We also love the eco-friendly hotel concept and I hope ... more hotels adopt these policies, it is the next level to being a "Green Hotel." The staff was friendly after a long travel day that was very inportant and the "check-in" and "check out" was very easy. The resturant was outstanding and their wine list was very good, which is important in thes region:) The rooms are very spacious and beautiful and the beds are really excellent.

Not Quite There Yet

Amy Mar 30, 2008

The Gaia Napa Valley Hotel and Spa is an idea whose time has come, but does not quite hit the mark. The green building ... concept in the middle of strip mall territory seems incongruous. The design of the property itself is nice, with the lagoon and swans. The Walmart next door does detract from the tranquility they seem to want to promote. The location is in fact not all that convenient to Napa Valley attractions. We had several complaints about our stay. The hallways and rooms had noticeable fumes from paint and carpeting. The internet service was not available to guests . When we went to use the business center computer, one was not working, and the other one was being used by an employee He kindly offered to let us use the computer, but he had trouble signing off from the Hustler site windows he had opened, and somehow crashed the computer. We were then offered the desk computer to try to book an excursion we wanted to take. We had a lovely treatment at the Spa, which was the highlight of our stay. The staff there were exceptional. The only improvements needed would more towels, and perhaps amenties like blow dryers should be available.

The Gaia is comfortable, modern, and well located. Focusing on the Green approach to comfort, the hotel uses all natural ... cotton linens and down pillows. The beds were the most comfortable I've experienced ever in a hotel. A charming central feature of the outdoor space is a beautiful pond and fountain with live swans and ducks. It's a natural attraction for birds in the area and creates a very pleasant background for relaxation. And of course the location couldn't be better for travelers to the wine country. The hotel is only minutes from Sonoma Valley and Napa Valley wineries in 2 directions!

The Gaia Napa Valley Hotel was very comfortable. The room was large and the bathroom had a granite vanity and upgraded ... toiletries. The down side was that we arrived at 1500 and the check-in was 1600 and the room wasn't ready. They did offer to keep the luggage but we decide to drive into Napa and go to Copia. This was a good choice. The loation was outside of Napa but still only a 5 mile drive.

My review of Gaia Napa Valley Hotel and Spa

martha Oct 7, 2007

Would recommend to a friend!

Gaia is a small ecohotel on the major highway in the Sonoma/Napa region. There was shopping nearby, including a large ... outlet mall. No upscale restaurants readily visible but much fastfood. It was not an attractive area. No greenery except on the property itself. The continental breakfast was very nice, easily accessible, in a clean friendly room, constantly refreshed. Fireplace in lobby was not lit even though it was 40's-50's. Bare bones lobby. Clean, no flowers. All of staff available and ready and willing to help. Excellent bed and six down pillows various sizes and firmness, excellent duvet balance of linens and towels slightly less than standard. Small adequate bathroom. Good lighting. Temp well controlled. Strong water pressure throughout. Rudimentary fitness room but everything in working order. Very small pool. Restaurant not yet open. The spa was warm and friendly, all organic and natural products. Patio rooms face the courtyard, which is landscaped has a koi pond with two swans, and have outdoor chairs. I was in an adjoining room and my third night a group of four college kids came in and partied a bit loudly. I am not sure whether the walls were thin or the kids loud. I missed having a newspaper. The point of an eco hotel is to have low impact and leave a small footprint. I travel a lot, frequently in 4-5 star hotels. This was more enjoyable than many. I was very satisfied with the value.

The Gaia was a pleasant surprise. Located about 9 miles south of Napa, the location was not ideal but the hotel itself was ... new, very nice, and a solid value for the dollar. Decent free continental breakfast started the day off well. Room was large, well appointed, and comfortable. The beds were a tad soft for me but I like very hard ones so I wouldn't count it against the hotel. Promise of a restaurant coming soon. Would definitely stay here again.

Disappointed Stay

Clarisse Aug 19, 2007

The Gaia Napa Valley Hotel and Spa was somewhat disappointing recently. We arrived at the hotel around 5pm. Check-in was at ... 3:00pm. Our room was not ready for us yet. After awhile we were allowed in our room. We didn't spend much time in there, because we had dinner reservations. The next morning I paid more attention to the bathroom while I was getting ready. I noticed that the floors of the bathroom were dirty and not clean. The rest of the room was okay. The continental breakfast was all right. There was a room set up with coffee, pastries, fruit, cereal and yogurt. The green concept meant paper cups instead of glasses, coffee cups or wine glasses in the room. I prefer to drink my morning coffee in a glass cup and my wine in a wine glass. ( We were staying in Napa.) Instead of little bottles of shampoo and lotions, there was a dispenser next to the sink and in the shower. We did enjoy the spa and watching the resident swans and ducks frolick in the ponds next to the pool.

Quick tip

Not worth the price

Hotel is very expensive for the value. Room size and furnishing are not better than 2 Stars. The breakfast cannot compare to ... a 2 stars.

There's a restaurant in the hotel with a pretty good and healthy menu of decently priced items, both food and beverage.

Dining tip, Short Drive

Safeway and a sandwich place are 5 minutes away; Round Table, Starbucks and Jamba Juice are 2 minutes away. It's 20 minutes away from Silverado trail in Napa. There are two nice golf courses - Chardonnay and Eagle Vines, and a sake tasting site, Hakusan, about 5 minutes away.
