VERY NICE HOTEL CONVENIENTLY LOCATED.

THIS IS A LOVELY HOTEL FOR THE PRICE. THE CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST WAS SUPER. WE STAYED 2 NIGHTS BEFORE GOING ON A CRUISE SO WE ... HAD THE TIME TO SEE SOME OF THE TOWNS SIGHTS. WE ONLY REGRET THAT THERE IS NO LAUNDRY ON PREMISES, HOWEVER THAT WILL NOT DETER US FROM STAYING THERE AGAIN SINCE EVERYTHING ELSE WAS SO NICE.

this was a great trip. Long Beach hosts several festivals through out the year, the crawfish, the lobster, and many others. ... We arrived on Saturday and right on 1st street a festival was going on. We adjusted our schedule to attend that festival and attended the one that we origianaly scheduled for the next day. the hotel was right next to dining, conventions and night life. the price was great. I would do it all over again.

Awful Front Desk Employee Service
WebGuruette Sep 13, 2009
Since this hotel is in a great location, with clean, updated rooms and reasonable rates, I would have given this hotel much ... higher ratings and much more positive feedback had it not been for one incompetent, unprofessional and downright rude front desk employee who gave us an incorrect room at check-in and insisted that our room had not been pre-paid (which would have resulted in us being double charged if we had not made sure this was corrected). At check-out, she even tried blame the error on another employee and refused to give us a copy of the pre-paid confirmation until I insisted and asked to speak with a manager. She finally copied the confirmation page while making rude and offensive comments under her breath and shoved it across the counter! Don't need this kind of stress - I'll stay elsewhere next time.

The Utopia restaurant right outside the hotel. There are a couple of cafe's along the way as well. The performing arts center/ convention center is just around the corner; about 5 minutes walking time. It's actually a nice(enjoyable) walk so you can leave your car parked at the hotel.

Perfect for E Hula Mau!
Ms Stang Sep 8, 2009
I stayed in this room for the E Hula Mau competition at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center. The location is perfect as it ... was just around the corner. Across the street is this fabulous cafe called Utopia. A little pricy but has great ambiance and everything we ordered was great. The complimentary breakfast was good as well and very filling. The rooms were great. Nothing too fancy so if your not in the room all day it's not a waste, but perfect for this kind of trip. It was clean and always smelled nice. There was a cute balcony and the beds were very comfy. On Saturdays there is a farmers market right outside but unfortunately no fridge in the rooms to keep your fruit. The hotel is nicely kept and in the middle of everything without being on the beat and path. I will definately look to stay in this hotel next year!!

Totally Decent
Bess Sep 8, 2009
I was in Long Beach for an event at the Convention Center. This Best Western was a great location, not only for a nice walk ... to the Convention Center, but also for a variety of restaurants, bars and cafes. Everyone was very friendly and the room was comfortable. The only oddity is that the air conditioning was quirky. The deadbolt has to be engaged for the air conditioning to work, which guaranteed a warm and humid room after returning from a day at the Convention Center. However, as long as we remembered to engage the deadbolt right when we entred the room, we were pretty comfortable in a short amount of time.

Convenient and nearby
The Great Aunt Sep 8, 2009
It was a bit of a shock to have to pay for parking at the end of the stay, because I thought it was part of the hotel fee. ... The other "surprise" was that without informing us ahead of time, the hotel staff entered the room in the middle of the day and switched out the large cabinet-style televison to a flat screen. I was uncomfortable to think that someone other than housekeeping had been in the room. Common courtesy would dictate that management asked the guests for permission to enter to perform that task, particularly in light of the "privacy please" tag on the door. We had to "refresh" our room cards 3 times in 7 nights which was a bit out of the ordinary. The hotel elevator is very slow and quite stuffy which makes the fresh floral bouquets alternately pleasant or overwhelming. All in all, this was a good deal. We will certainly use Cheap Tickets again in the future!

Traveler from Nothern California Sep 7, 2009
We decided to stay at this hotel prior to departing for our cruise the next day because it is close to the port. We arrived ... about 7pm and went up to our room. The hotel had to be above 90 degrees in the hallways upstairs and the room upstairs. It was unbearable. There was a cool breeze outside, however no hallway windows were open. We arrived at 7pm and turned on the air conditioning in our room and went across the street to have dinner. We came back to our room after dinner and the room was still unbearably hot! We checked with the desk clerk who told us that you have to be in the room with your lock deadbolted for the air conditioning to work. So, we would have had to stay in our room in the unbearable heat to have the room to cool down. That is completely ridiculous. I will never stay at a Best Western again because of this. If we had showed up late around 11pm like we originally planned, we would not have been able to sleep right away. We asked to change our room to a lower level room and it may have been a little cooler, but the desk clerk said that since we booked through Orbitz, he could not change our room? Very bad customer service. They just did not care. They didn't even ask how our stay was when we checked out. I do not recommend this hotel.

Charming boutique-type hotel
Mady Aug 7, 2009
This hotel could not have been better. I came to go to a Quilt Show at the Long Beach Convention Center. My room was ... spotless, the bedding very comfortable. I like that they covered the blanket with a sheet. The room was quiet, albeit there was no view from the window. The morning breakfast was more than adequate (coffee and tea are available 24 hours a day). Long Beach is undergoing an urban renewal and 1st Street is clean and pleasant with some nice restaurants. As a single woman alone, I felt safe in this hotel. I also like that the hotel was easy to get to by public bus from the local airport. It saved a fortune in cab fees. The staff was friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel.
Traveler type: Single
The public bus system from this hotel to the airport is the best transportation deal - only $1.15 each way. The bus drops you off in front of the hotel and can be picked up one block away to return to the airport. The buses are comfortable and clean and the drivers helpful. I have spent a fortune on cabs and shuttles in the past. This was a pleasant surprise. It allowed me to spend elsewhere and not feel guilty!!
