This was a great location and a great deal for price in Waikiki. We were upgraded to the 10th floor suite at no charge when ... we checked in. Other reviews have complained about noise, but we had no issues with that. Only complaint is the internet (Wi-Fi) is EXTREMELY SLOW! Not even worth it it try and use it.

This Hotel was amazing! It was located in a great spot and very close to everything. The parking was a great price for its ... location compared to other parking spots nearby. The staff was very friendly! They were always ready to help with questions about anything and everything. Because the hotel is very high only having two elevators, where one was usually being worked on made it time consuming to get from our room to the lobby, but it didnt take away from our trip. Because the hotel is located very close to the international market place, the music was very loud and clear through the closed doors, however the hotel provided ear plugs. The beds were REALLY nice and comfortable. Having a free minifridge was a great thing to have in the room for dirnks. Overall, this hotel was great and i would stay there again on another trip if i can get the same great deal i got!

good value/location, expensive parking
azure Dec 2, 2009
We had hard time finding the hotel. To find, look for a Jack in the Box near Kuhio and Namahana. Then look right across the ... street at da Big Kahuna Waikiki restaurant and a Hawaii clothing store. The hotel stairway/entry is right between them, and the driveway to the parking garage is on the other side of the restaurant. After finally finding the hotel, we were surprised by a $20/night parking fee to park in a small garage that quickly filled up in the evening. The hotel did have an arrangement with a parking structure next door for overfill parking, but we had to relinquish car and keys to an attendant who whisked it up a car elevator; note this overfill parking structure is closed late night (forgot what time) and doesn't re-open until 6am so you would not be able to access your car during these hours. Anyhow, I knew parking was expensive in the area but would've really appreciated heads up about this fee in their hotel info. Great location, just steps away from international market place shopping, Waikiki beach. Our room was clean and quiet -- we were on the highest (15th) floor though. Room service was a bit odd with soap amenities: received a used lotion bottle one day, and two bars of soap but no shampoo on another... We were satisfied overall.

Noisy!
MAP Nov 15, 2009
We were kind of dismayed to find that our room wrapped around the elevator shaft, expecting to hear the lift running all ... night. But the room was actually a very nice and large suite with a separate bedroom. However the noise we expected/feared actually came from outside. We heard people on the street yelling and cars honking all night long. And we were on the eighth floor! The elevator really wasn't a problem. Other than the noise, the hotel was quite nice.

Mctgolf Nov 10, 2009
The rooms were clean and the maid service employees were very friendly and did a great job. The hotel is just a few blocks ... from the beach and is surrounded by lots of great souvenir hunting. The external noise is very present even on higher floors (they provide earplugs in the rooms). Another downer is parking. Be prepared to add $25 a day if you have a vehicle. There are many scenic and fun places to visit. We recommend hiking Waimea and visiting Pearl Harbor of course. Be aware that Hawaii is like many other destinations in that you will be approached regularly in many locations (even the Dole Plantation) by representatives for timeshare and vacation clubs.

Superdan Nov 6, 2009
This hotel is one block from the beach. I had a view of both the ocean and the mountains. The room was larger and roomier ... than expected, but the TV was somewhat small. The location was great for the price. The staff was friendly, especially Josh at the front desk. The housekeeping staff was very tenacious in keeping the room clean, which sometimes was a little more than necessary. They have underground parking as well which is helpful in a crowded city. There is no pool at this hotel, but the beach is only a block away. On-site has a Chinese restaurant (expensive) and a convenience shop. I did not take advantage of the concierge service of the fitness center, as I spent most of my time walking the city. Upon leaving, there was a water main break in Waikiki, causing a large traffic jam. The staff could not have prevented this issue, but I do wish I had been notified and offered to arrange for an earlier shuttle than the one I had previously arranged through them. I was comped for my late check out, which was very nice of them, but things were stressful getting to the airport.

Clean, but not-so-great service
A Canadian and a Swiss Oct 11, 2009
Rooms are nicely decorated and housekeeping is great. You can tell rooms have been renovated (bathroom door was hard to ... close, paint on door chipping a bit). Staff had a bit of attitude and did not inform us of services that they offered to their guests (ie. beach towels). When asking questions, staff gave short answers that made us feel like they didn't want to deal with us. Area was noisy, but anything in Waikiki would probably be the same. I would still recommend this hotel if you want a clean room and convenient location.

The Price Is Right, But It's Surprising!
The Singing Skipper Oct 8, 2009
The Aqua Waikiki Wave is showing its age, but the location is a major plus. The pool area is not only small, but it's also ... sandwiched in the rear of the hotel and only accessible by a set of metal stairs which means if you're a guest with a handicap, the pool is essentially unavailable. You should also know there's a very good reason why each room comes with ear plugs as the neighboring clubs run full blast until 4 a.m. every evening. The front desk staff are efficient and good natured. If you ask a question, you'll receive an honest answer which is refreshing. We booked one of the up-scale, partial ocean view deluxe rooms. Be prepared to find the bathroom facilities to be very dated and somewhat in need of repair. The "partial ocean view" means one must go out on a small balcony and lean over the railing while looking down a canyon of buildings towards the beach. If you want the beach experience, take the two block walk and visit the beach. If you rent a car, also be prepared to be somewhat frustrated by the very small parking garage under the hotel. You should know the hotel staff also park their cars in this same garage and may well park behind your car which means to take a drive, you may have to ask the front desk or security to have cars moved. The Chinese restaurant in the hotel near the guest elevators is vastly over-priced and the food portions are rather small. We'd suggest going elsewhere for a meal and don't forget that right across the street (Kuhio Avenue) from the Aqua Wave is a 24-hour fast food place. If someone suggests you try the Japanese restaurant located on University Avenue just outside the main entrance to the University of Hawaii, be prepared for small portions and a large bill at the end of the meal. MY first visit to Waikiki in 1969 was far different than this latest visit 40 years later. If you're on a budget, eating in Waikiki can be a very pricey experience. Also due to the numerous night spots near the Aqua Wave, be prepared to see and potentially be approached by young ladies who are "on the stroll" offering hourly companionship which can be a bit disconcerting. Despite these candid comments, it's hard to beat the package deals available at the Aqua Waikiki Wave.
Traveler type: Couples
The International Market Place often gets a bum rap as a tourist trap with over-priced merchandise and aggressive vendors. In reality, if one applies a bit of logic and is willing to do some "window shopping" at the various stalls, the prices and available merchandise are very comparable to other shopping locations on Oahu. Let's face facts - Waikiki is not a discount, bargain type of location, so don't expect Wal-Mart prices. The keys at the International Market are: the stores in the middle give better deals than those at the entrances (for example, the same necklaces at the vendors found near the entrances which sell for $5.00 each can be found for $2.50 at those stores in the middle; it was our experience that the cart and kiosk vendors are more aggressive and higher priced, marking their jewelry and other items at almost absurd prices then quickly offering a person a "deal" by chopping the price by as much as 50 percent and then applying a fast-paced sales routine leading a shopper to think a bargain is at hand, but, in reality, seldom matching the prices found in a store front markets; we had a long chat with one of the vendors from whom we purchased a number of items and she shared with us that the smaller the store, the more likely you are to get a lower price as these smaller stores have less overhead costs; and, be wary of the various food stands. Look at the cleanliness of the interior of the stand and the employees who are preparing your snack. Fish-based offerings can be tempting, but could lead some people to a rather uncomfortable, post-dining experience. Also, be mindful that the guys who offer to let their large birds sit on your hand say it's free, but will logically expect a few dollars to "feed the birds." It's very important to remember that these parrots, macaws and other large birds are attracted to shiny things like rings on your fingers and, as we experienced, are not above using their very powerful beaks to attempt to grab a shiny ring which can be very painful.

HCP Sep 19, 2009
We do not reccomend this hotel to anyone. First we got lost on the way to the hotel. I tried to call them several times for ... directions and no one would answer the phone. The first night we were there a fire alarm went off at 3am and we had to evacutate the Hotel. We stood out on the street for an hour and no hotel staff came to explain or apologize. There was no fire of course. They only had one working elevator for 15 floors. So we climbed the stairs to our sixth floor room. Parking was an additional $20 a night, provided you could find parking. One night we had to park three blocks away at a different hotel. The blankets had stains on them. We found three chocroaches in our room. The carpet was thread bare and pilling. The only good thing about our hotel was the location; but then againm, there were about 30 other hotels in the same location that I am sure were much nicer. Try the Mariot on Waikiki. We heard nice things about it. The weather was wonderful and the beach was beautiful. I loved Oahu and if I ever have another chance to go there I will just stay at a different hotel. Everything else was wonderful.
