this is a beautiful old victorian charmer with original wallpaper and furniture from the turn of the century. Very ... comfortable rooms and beds and a great location in downtown Durango right by the train depot. The staff was very helpful and the restaurant is absolutely beautiful with wonderful food...

Great historic hotel

Check in was rather slow. We had lunch there and I would not recommend it because of the price and the small portions. ... The ghost tour was very interesting, however there should have been a discount for residents.

Great Historic Hotel
Always Traveling May 27, 2009
This hotel is a great choice if you like historic hotels. It cannot be compared to modern hotels with sound proofed walls ... and heavy entry doors with seals. It is an old hotel with quaint squeaking floorboards that need to be tread upon lightly. Guests need to respect the enjoyment of others and keep their voices low and thier children under control. When we stayed at this hotel, the other guests around us were wonderful, and consequently, we had an enjoyable time. However, we can understand how one might have a bad experience at this hotel if during the stay, the guests around them are loud and obnoxious. The bed in our room was not very comfortable, and it sagged a bit in the middle. That is our major negative complaint. We enjoyed dinner in the hotel restaurant and it was excellent. The rooms are not air conditioned. However, we opened our windows and a breeze kept our room very comfortable. It overlooked a lovely courtyard with a waterfall fountain and we were lulled to sleep by the sound of the waterfall.

Just a quick getaway to do some shopping and dining out. Walked around Lake Estes and through town. Great meals at Country ... Cafe and the Wapiti. Was as good as any previous stay at Estes Park and the Stanley Hotel is always a fun place to stay.

Wapiti Restaurant was excellent food at a very good price and a good variety of different beers.

Stanley Hotel Review
Dave& Jeanine May 9, 2009
Hotel is close to Estes Park main street. It is fun to stroll around the hotel grounds. Sricking and beautiful architecture ... with a rich history. Ghost tours are lots of fun and the guides are great. The bar is beautiful. The pool was not open yet which would of been fun to sit at and take in the incredible views. Elk are everywhere.

Wear walking shoes as so much is accessible in the downtown area and do not forget the camera.

Great old hotel but...
MT parents May 4, 2009
Room wasn't cleaned well, curtains falling down, very loud room. We felt we were imposing on the staff to check in/out, ... interrupting their conversation with friends. Anyone over 16 work here? Restaurant was good, but small portions for the price. Try Mary's Lake Lodge for dinner.
