As soon as I lay down on the bed I started itching, bad detergent or something worse, couldn't wait to get out of the room. ... The vending machines were not functional. Room was dated and had some damage, also smelled of stale ashtray, even though it was a "non-smoking" room. Shuttle ride to airport was terrifying; excessive speed, abrupt turns and driver was passing gas (ew!). I am truly disappointed. The Doubletree is at least $100 more than any other hotels near JFK, so the assumption is that the service will be above average, this is clearly not the case.

The good, the bad and the really ugly

There was only one wash cloth and one face towel in a riim reserved for two people. When I complained at the front desk I ... was told that I would have to request additional wash cloth and face towel. There was knocking on my door then the door was opened at 8:00am in the morning. When I ask the cleaning person at the hotel, she told me that they were required to knock three times on the door and if there is no answer to unlock the door, This was 4 hours before check out time at 12:00pm. When I tried to contact the front desk there was no answer. When I went to the desk I waited for 10 minutes before someone came out and was told the number to the front desk is different from the number in the room directory. Very bad experience.

convenient hotel near JFK airport

I was very tired when I returned from my trip to Russia. I was able to take a refreshing nap when I got to my room. The hotel ... staff were adequately professional and assisted me with questions about complimentary Internet service and the gift shop hours. One thing that did disturb me however, was that it wasn't clear to me that the breakfast in the morning was not complimentary and there was no separate cash register in the restaurant. I had to be rechecked in and then my breakfast was charged to my account and then I was checked out again which delayed my entrance into the shuttle bus while other people were waiting.

Close to Penn Station or a connection to Grand Central. Area convenient with a pharmacy, Starbucks and any other fast food you might want within a block.

I had to go back to the airport to get my luggage because it didn't arrive when I did. I was close to the Airport and I didn't have to spend a lot of time or a lot of money(I toke a cab back to the hotel). The cab ride from the Airport to the hotel didn't cost a fortune.

There are not really wonderful nearby stores in the area, but you can always drive a few miles to find one in Manhattan.

Good location in proximity to subway/ Penn Station. Decent sized room on the back of the hotel, quiet, nice view. Bathroom ... was ok, minus the low window in the shower which looked to have mold issues. If you can deal with that the rest was great.

" Rest"
Mrs K. Jun 14, 2009
I enjoyed my stay at The Double Tree Hotel. The hotel is close to the airport but you don't hear constant noise from the ... airplanes taking off. They offer shuttle service to and from the airport; when coming from the airport you need to get on the Air Train to Federal Circle and then you can wait until the hotel shuttle comes unless its already out there. The staff was nice and looked very professional. I thought the beds were very comfortable and the room look nice. The food was good but I only ate twice because it was too expensive. My friend who lives in New York even said the food was to expensive. I did like the fact that I could pay for a tour of New York and get picked up right at the hotel. The tour took us to The United Nations, several places in Manhattan, Ground Zero, China Town, and we also took a Ferry Boat to the Statue Of Liberty or Ellis Island it was very nice.

Upon arrival, service staff not very welcoming, and we were shocked that they were talking very loud and unprofessional to the ... guest prior to us! They did not offer cookies, we found out other guest received cookies upon arrival. Incidently, later that day, our T.V did not work, so the evening person was very accomodating, his name is [...]. He upgraded our room, which was cleaner, and updated, also he offered us cookies. He greeted us and serviced us with outstanding professionalism. The only other disappointment was the limited seating outside the restaurant, and the fact that no drink/food was allowed out there. In warm weather and not a good neighborhood, there is not much else to do. We were disappointed that we could not even have a soda out on the patio. Again, the final room was well accomodating, unfortunately we had to move all our belongings that evening from the previous std. room, that was an inconvenience, but [...] was very professional and accomodating in this matter. Also, the security guard for the parking in the evening was very accomodating, since we had an expensive sport car and were not comfortable parking in the underground garage where it was not visible and the hotel made it clear that they were not responsible for damage or loss of property, he allowed us to park up front near the gate of security, where we could see it and security also was right there. Finally, during my conference a woman seated next to me, came in 1 and 1/2 hours late the 2nd day of the conference, very upset. Apparently, she parked at JFK airport and called several times and the cust. service kept telling her "they are on there way" and the hotel does advertise that the shuttle runs every 30 minutes and somehow, they picked her up finally, but she missed a lot of crucial info, and made it clear when she arrived so late, that mgmt was going to hear from her. This woman is a manager at a local hospital in NYC and I don't believe she would exagerate the situation. We all felt real bad and know there is no excuse for this inconvenience. I hope our future stays at Doubletree Hotels are improved by giving you feedback. Thank you.

Leonard Jul 28, 2008
The Doubletree Hotel was very comfortable, the room seemed much larger than most with a desk area and a table. There was ... adequate space for hanging clothes, but they did not provided a suitcase stands. The location was very good -- it was really close to the Airport and not too far from the Downtown in Manhatten.I would recommend this Hotel to Friend going to New York.

Great Welcome & A+ Staff
S Suzanne Jun 26, 2008
Doubletree Hotel JFK - exceeded my expectations! Free shuttle service is excellent to drop off at JFK airport terminals. ... Note: all hotel shuttle pick-ups at JFK are a long way from terminal-(require a train to a distant location)-so with 2+ bags I probably will consider taxi when arriving JFK. My room had wet carpet near air-conditioner. Staff politely said room may have been shampooed recently and I moved to another similar room up the hall with everything in very good order. SO nice to be able to sit down -get online-order a lite meal from room service after a full day of delayed flights! Friendly staff - eager to please and assist! I was treated well and appreciate this very much as I am used to great service in Egypt (where I spend much of my time assisting tourists). I will stay here again when I pass through New York airports!

So pleased with the DoubleTree hotel,JFK airport..you are greeted first, with the friendly shuttle driver that picks you up ... at the airport and drives you to the hotel. Checking in was friendly and fast...All the workers greeted you and asked if you needed anything. The hotel room was clean and beautiful, it looked like a expensive hotel with the lush decor. The beds were clean and fresh with nice pillows. The room was spacious and had a desk with business chair....And an easy chair.... The experience was a sheer delight.... Couldnt tell you about the neighborhood. But if going to New York City, you need to start your trip at the airport and use the airtrain and the subways...about 45 minutes...But we choose to be close to the airport.
