A friendly motel

The carpet could have used a good cleaning. It looked as if someone had spilled cups of hot chocolate. We reported it and the ... manager said carpet cleaning was on the fall/winter maintenance list. The bed & bathroom were clean & fresh. Breakfast buffet was well appointed & the afternoon fresh baked cookies were a real treat :-)) Moonstone Beach is right across the street & the wooden boardwalk made strolling a delight. Good restaurants short walking or driving distance. We enjoyed the close proximity to Hearst Castle & elephant seal rookery, so stayed an additional night.

Relaxing

It is so relaxing at Moonstone beach! Hotel was fine but we were in the back next to a busy road so you could not open any ... windows. August is a busy "family time" at the Fog Catcher. Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill is a great place for sunset! Excellent fresh seafood at the Sea Chest! All within walking distance from the Fog Catcher:)

Moonstone Grill was great. Pines Family Restaurant was deceitful and charged us $7.00 for two cups of soup that were supposed to be $.95 each. Misleading, young person very uncaring. Won't be back to that restaurant.

Hearst Castle is a nice short drive away. The town of Cambria is also close with plenty of restaurant options.

The Fogcatcher was a great hotel to stay at! The service was friendly, rooms were clean and location perfect. This hotel ... also has a very nice continental breakfast included every morning. I would definitely recommend to anyone staying in Cambria!

Coastal Get-away
Michael Jun 10, 2007
The Fog Catcher Inn in Cambria was an enjoyable experience. The tasteful decor and gas fireplace gave our room a cozy feel, ... while the tall vaulted ceilings prevented us from feeling cramped. Overall the room was clean, but not pristine (i.e., fireplace glass covered with soot). Although our room was in the back and did not have a view, the proximity of this property to the ocean is ideal. Breakfast is provided as part of the hotel price and is fairly substantial consisting of scrambled eggs, sausage, and make your own waffles. Hotel staff was indifferent, doing their job, but not making us feel welcome. All in all, I would stay here again, but would also try exploring other properties to find a more memorable experience.

While the name sounds unappealing, the Sow's Ear in the village of Cambria is worth a vist. Food is homey and well prepared with high end ingredients.

The best hotel on the ocean side!
Nura Jun 10, 2007
I would stay here every time! High ceilings, fireplace, and our room had a beautiful view of colorful rose gardens. Delicious ... extended self serve breakfasts and fresh baked cookies at 3pm! Ocean trail right in front and a skip and a hop to a cute downtown with nice shops. Its awesome!!

If you're looking for a unique gift you'll find it downtown in Cambria. All the stores have beautiful music playing and fresh flowers perfuming the air.

A romantic spot on Moonstone Beach
Andrew May 27, 2007
I would reccomend to anyone loking for a funa romantic place to stay when visiting California's central coast, to try the Fog ... Catcher Inn. Don't be turned away by the price, you are getting a superior value. The rooms are much larger than expected, and very clean. The staff is very friendly, and knowledgible abou the area. You are across the street from Moonstone Beach and the great walkways. Hearst Castle is no more then 10 minutes away, and the town of Cambria is a great place to roam around, eat, and even see a local theater company show. (I highly recommend the Main Street Grill's BBQ in Cambria) Families are very welcome at the hotel too, and really, if you want a great vacation, this is a really good place to spend a few days.
