An oasis in the land of excess
Carole from Brentwood Nov 17, 2009
This hotel is terrific. There is no casino, no smoking and the hotel is not that large with only 3 check-in desks, so ... although we only stayed there for 4 nights, we were on first name terms with a lot of the staff - in fact one of them was from Essex, same as us. Upon arrival we phoned for more wardrobe hangers. These were brought up promptly and was followed by a phone call to check everything was OK and whether we needed anything else. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We spent our last morning lazing by the pool for a couple of hours - this was like a little oasis with all the Vegas hustle and bustle just up the road. The hotel is just a short walk to the Strip at the crossroads of Bally's, Flamingo, Bellagio and Caesar's Palace, so very central. We tended to walk to the Strip along the pavement and return through Bally's casino if it got a little chilly at night as all we had to do was cross the road and we were back at the hotel. Don't tell the taxi driver you have never been to Vegas before. Our airport to hotel bill was more than double what it cost to get back to the airport and that was with 3 extra bags on the return journey. Unless you are immobile or are travelling some distance, I wouldn't really bother with the Deuce bus, which runs the entire length of the Strip. It sounds wonderful, with the option to purchase a standard ticket or a 24 hour card, but in reality it takes forever for people to feed their money into the machine beside the driver at the front of the bus to get their ticket. We went to the Las Vegas Outlet Mall (south of the Strip) and decided to stay on the bus all the way to Freemont Street (north of the Strip) to see the lights. This journey was probably around 10 miles and took close to an hour and a half. You should bank on spending 5 minutes at each major stop for people to get on. You can get a good view of the rollercoaster ride at New York New York from upstairs on the Deuce bus. We did the ride on our last afternoon - 3.5 minutes of smiles and screams. Great fun. We went to the Fashion Show Mall where the models' runway raises out of the ground floor when a show is on and sinks back into the floor once the show has finished - worth seeing if you're there. Definitely go to the Grand Canyon and also go and see a show. We saw Jerry Lee Lewis, Tina Turner, Tom Jones, Michael Jackson and Elvis all in the same show! We got half price tickets from the booths along the Strip. They sell tickets from 10am for that evening's shows, so be prepared to queue. However, you will get great bargains. The only thing we wished we had booked was an extra night, so think about what you want to do before booking your trip.

When going to "the Strip" for the day, drive to Bill's Casino on Flamingo and Las Vegas Blvd. Park in their Self Parking (free) lot and stop by the tix 4 less office at Bill's to get half price tickets for same day shows and restaurants. "Where Everybody Knows Your Name"
Non-smoker Sep 20, 2009
We felt like honored guests; everybody called us by name. This quiet hotel with its classy rooms was a real treat compared ... to a previous stay at a more "typical" i.e., noisy, smoky, Las Vegas hotel (Planet Hollywood). We bought a few groceries and were able to have breakfast daily at the table on our balcony, overlooking "the Strip". Very close to everything; we either walked to the strip or drove to Bill's Casino on the strip and left the car in their lot.

The Good: Spacious suite with an incredible bathroom and a great kitchen. Staff was very courteous. The Bad: The hotel is at ... an intersection that is currently in the midst of horrendous road construction. Traffic took up several hours of our trip. Our room keys were deactivated for some unknown reason after our first night. The AC is controlled by the room key, and it went out in the middle of the night. The pool was closed. Nothing really within walking distance of the place, and even if there were, I wouldn't feel safe walking the streets around the hotel.

3rd Time is Almost a Charm
Derf Sep 1, 2009
This was our third time staying at the Platinum, and it was NOT our best experience. We had arranged to arrive late and got ... in about 11:30 p.m. We were told that they had implemented a new energy saving A/C system and we had to put the room key in a slot in order for the A/C to come on. We got to the room, put the key in the slot, and got ready for bed. I woke up in the middle of the night and was sweating like a pig. The bed was drenched and the room had not cooled down at all. I thought maybe this was the hotel's way of saving money. When we left the room the next morning, the hallway was 20 degrees colder than our room and we knew there was a problem. We had to call several times before someone got to the room to check out the A/C. When he finally got there, apparently the sensor on the sliding door to the balcony had malfunctioned and the Energy Saver System thought the sliding door was open when it wasn't and therefore wouldn't allow the A/C to come on (the A/C won't run if the door is open). Once he fixed the sensor the A/C worked fine, but we weren't happy campers that first night -- it was MISERABLE!!! Bottom line is this: the suites are beautiful, the smoke free environment (no smoking allowed anywhere) is wonderful, the facility is quite nice. However, the mandatory valet parking sucks, and the responsiveness to the A/C was pretty bad. Also, they are doing road work around the hotel (temporary, but still annoying). Would we stay there again??? I'd have to think about it long and hard. With the competition in Vegas, there are a lot of great places to stay for what we paid for the room.

Peace and Quiet
LV Traveler Aug 29, 2009
If you want peace and quiet this is the place. I got good service from staff. The pool was nice and relaxing. It was divided ... in-door/out-door which was cool. The rooms were huge and cozy. The kitchen had your fridge, stove, microwave, cofee maker, dishwasher and dinnerware(plates, spoons, forks ect)The jetted tub was enough for two poeple to fit nicely. The bed was nice and comfy and the pull out sofa bed was great for visitors. The closet space was more than enough room and the bathrooms were clean and spacious. They had a good Happy Hour at Stir and a good breakfast. Room service could have been faster and pick up the phone quicker. The balconoy was great and private. Noise levels were non-existent. If you want to get away from the crowds and casinos from Vegas this is the place to stay.

IMPRESSIVE HOTEL !!!!!
Dee-Dee Apr 13, 2009
We were very happy to have selected this hotel. This was my families first time visiting Las Vegas and we researched all ... sorts of hotels via various websites. Glad to report that this hotel held up to prior good comments, photos, and overall hotel description. The suite was more than enough space to accommodate our party, and we really felt like occupying a home as oppose to staying in your typical hotel room where everything is all there in one large space. Our suite was very clean, spacious, provided all the general suite amenities (stove, refrigerator, microwave, silverware, glasses, dishwasher, etc) and when we needed anything the staff was there to offer immediate assistance. We ate in the hotel mainly for breakfast and the food and service was excellent. The other restaurant was good and prices reasonable in comparison to other area hotels of its kind. Location was convenient to many other restaurants, shops, casinos, and the main Las Vegas strip. We also enjoyed how quiet the hotel was in comparison to those hotels with casinos. It was definitely a BIG PLUS not to be bothered with people rotating in and out to gamble, the smoke, and noise. My only drawback was that credit cards and debit cards are not viewed/charged the same. For instance, I used my debit card to check-in which was held on file for any incidental charges. Although it has a credit card logo, when swiped, your card is immediately charged $100 per night for each nights stay. Where as a credit will just place the standard hold. Given you have no incidental charges at your check-out, the money is refunded to you in a couple of business days, but it can offset your budget if you had not anticipated the amount charge to begin with. Unfortunately we were not notified of the credit card vs. debit card difference until after the charge had been applied. Other than this, everything was very pleasing and we look forward to staying hear again upon our next visit to Vegas.

My review of The Platinum Hotel and Spa
Margo Oct 12, 2008
The Platinum Hotel was fabulous We upgraded to the princess suite and could not have been happier. There were two distinct ... areas so that you could watch tv or talk on the phone without disturbing anyone who is sleeping. The bathroom was large with two sinks ,a spa tub and a large separate shower. Bathrobes were provided as well as an iron and ironing board. There were two large closets and a safe. The kitchen was just like being home- high point for me was the fridge with the ice and water dispenser no wandering the halls looking for the ice machine. The only negative was the dining room the fish was not cooked and the chicken dish tasteless--so eat out. There was a 7-11 close by which was great for drinks and snacks. The walk to the strip wasn't bad but if it was raining it could get costly with cabs. I would definitely book here again

My review of The Platinum Hotel and Spa
James Oct 12, 2008
The Platinum Hotel was very clean and most of all a non-smoking hotel. The suite was huge with a spa tub and walk in shower. ... There were two flat screen TV's, one in the den area and one in the bedroom which is great for a family with children. The kitchen area was large as well and my wife like the fact that the hotel had a balcony as well as the spa treatments and I of course enjoyed the weight room. The location was a couple of blocks from the strip and we did not mind walking. Restaurants were nearby in walking distance or a bus stop in front of the hotel every 30 minutes. Over all we had a great time in Vegas and look forward to another trip.

The Platinum Hotel & Spa was a pleasent surprise. I took the advise of previous reviewers and the results were awsome. ... Close enough to walk to the strip (however, our stay was too HOT to walk).
