AMAZING-all the reviews are true
Recharging my solar panels in Idaho Nov 17, 2009
Okay, so I have to say this was by far the best all-inclusive I have been to including Sandals. I'll start with the people ... first. From first impression on arrival to ending moment the staff has made this their own home. They are simply amazing. To our bell boy, who was so informative, to our housekeeper, who kept our room SPOTLESS and loaded with towels, to the waiter who came around what seemed like our own private pool multiple times with wonderful drinks, to the wait staff at every dining establishment, to the very end at checkout. The hotel manager is doing a great job at keeping her staff happpy which in turn shows through to how they treat their guests. Food, to me food is personal, some you like some you don't. We are all different. Did I have my favorites, you bet, but overall the food was fantastic and in fact it was so good that I had the hardest time choosing my last meal there, where do I go, what should I have, again simply amazing. I loved the fact there is a dress code throughout the resturants. Being adults only dressing nicely gave the feel of class amongst the people. It was nice. Rooms, we had the swim out suite, bottom floor, would get it again in a heartbeat, felt safe the whole time, loved the accessiblity to my own private pool, LOL, in fact ordered room service for lunch twice and ate by the pool! I might upgrade to the Excellence Club just to see what I get next time, but people my room was beautiful. Loved the robs, the slippers, the incense, it put me to sleep every night, well, maybe it was partially the nice beverages, but still I slept great. The pools were spotless and clean, and there were enough towels to go around. Although I did have to ask for them once at the beach and once at our pool and within five minutes I had fresh towels. So all was good in my little world. Beach, loved, did I say LOVED the beach beds wow, they are great. Had no problems with getting beverages, towels, and places to lay in the sun, and it was soooo clean and the sand was soft. My husband and I had the most fantastic time at the Excellence. The people that were guests were friendly and everyone seemed to be appreciative to be at the Excellence. My husband and I will be going back there, although next time we want to take the kids so we unfortunately can't do that at this resort, but we will be back to the Excellence Cancun. Now, we have to find a resort that can live up their standards, it will be hard, but I am looking at all the reviews on family resorts, just like I did with the Excellence. Bottomline, you will not be disappointed at this resort, go and enjoy my friends...

This was our second trip to this resort we liked it so well the first time we couldn't wait to go again. Excellence is a ... friendly, clean and enjoyable getaway. Thay wait on you hand & foot. The spa is great way to pamper yourself. Both times we have been at Excellence we meet couples that were staying at other resorts, that moved from the resorts they were in to Excellence. I would suggest a junior swim up suite. Just walk out your suite to the lazy river pool. I can't wait to go back again...

When we arrived in our rental car, the valet guys rudely told us to pull through and ignored us. They didn't allow me to get ... out under the covered area and it was raining. We had to park our car to the side and walk in the rain. They were only offering certain people champagne as they walked into the lobby. We were not one of them. Arrived early. Didn't get our room until 4:00 or later when check-in was 3:00. First room had weird smell, long walk, and thermostat didn't work. They didn't recognize our Anniversary when that's why we were there and told them that. They have signs they put on the doors that say "anniversary" or "honeymoon". Ours had nothing and we didn't get our welcome champagne and fruit. Contacted front desk and asked for a closer room....after a lot of urging, finally got one the next day. When we did get the room, it smelled better, they recognized our Anniversary and we got champagne and fruit...which was great! Although this room was better, it was really loud at night and early mornings and the hot water thermostat in the shower was messed up and we were constantly getting burned or frozen...not very pleasant or relaxing. The bed was very hard and uncomfortable. Poolside service was sketchy. We had one guy that was good and attentive. Most everyone else ignored us. Food at the restaurants was mostly good. The best was the French restaurant. We ate there 2 nights. Nightly entertainment not bad. Gym is nice. Quality, top shelf drinks available at the bars. Overall, we have stayed at other comparable resorts in Mexico and this one did not impress me, but it wasn't bad. I just expected more by the reviews and awards it has received. I probably would not go back.

At first, the most impressive features are the facility and the views. However, after a couple of days you realize it is the ... staff that makes this resort spectacular. They were all incredibly attentive and enthusiastic to all.If only the food & beverage department could prepare a dinner menu that approached the quality of this incredible facility, then all would be ideal. Unfortunately, none of the dinner options came close to meeting expectations. Regardless, this should not deter anyone considering the trip. Enjoy a few more beverages and eat less![...]

Excellence met and exceeded all of my expectations for a wonderful week of pampering. The service at the Excellence Club bar ... (Amable and Moises are truly wonderful, friendly people) was superb. The rooms are beautiful and the food was very good for an AI resort. This was one of the best resorts we've stayed at in the Riviera Maya area and I would highly recommend it to couples for a nice, quiet romantic place where your every need is taken care of.

This resort is tops! Truly excellent from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. We were very sad to go! Service ... couldn't have been better. We were pampered at every turn. We were celebrating our anniversary and there were rose petals on our bed and a bucket of champange chilling when we got to our room. Food was very good. The French restaurant was the absolute best with the Italian running a close second. Pools were very clean and refreshing since the weather was quite hot. I can't fault this resort in any way and can't wait to go back!!

we jut returned from our honeymoon at excellence and i can' rave about it enough- worth every penny. beautiful, spotless ... rooms, full service top notch spa, friendly staff that fell all over themselves to be helpful. the food was very very good, much better than expeced- and the drink selection and quality was superb. we also enjoyed the cigar lounge, the catamaran sailing, snorkeling, evening shows- and the TWO jacuzzi tubs- one inside our room and one on our patio. activities were plentiful, the resort was romantic and fun- a variety of age groups. the only negative was that there was no free shuttle from the airport, but really, this was no trouble to arrange and was assised by the conceirge [...]. CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK! Thank you all so much!

Agave is really the best restaurant, I think, Chez Isabel is a close second. Lobster house is a long wait, and people said it wasn't worth it. Try the Flaming Excellence Coffee after dinner in the theatre, and order the french toast and huevos rancheros room service- we did every morning and it was amazing. Tres leches cake- out of this world.

Excellence is definately the apt word to describe this resort. The staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful. All The ... restaurants were fabulous, even the room service was prompt and delicious.I recommend the swim up rooms, their very elegant and HUGE. The walk in shower is amazing and the outdoor jacuzzi on the patio is a great way to relax after the beach or pool. The resort location is very convenient to the airport, we left JFK in NY at 9:00am and were on the beach by 1:30. The only problem we had was that we were give a two queen bed suite instead of a King Suite( which I was expecting) When I complained of the oversite we were moved to a king suite the next day. When we returned to our room later in the day we found an apology note with a bottle of champagne. Thats a First class move that just added to our experiance!! I have been to other all inclusives in the Carribean and nothing compares to this resort. We are looking forward to returning in the spring. Excellence Riviera is a Great resort on all fronts.

Amazing Getaway
Kathy Oct 19, 2009
My boyfriend and I went for his 30th birthday, and of course I wanted everything to be perfect... and it was!!! From being ... greeted with a hot towel and a glass of champaign upon our arrival to every single staff member going out of their way to make our trip enjoyable. I thought the rooms were big and well kept, our fridge was constantly being re-stocked and what I loved the most was that every night, the "newsletter" was dropped off telling us what the weather was going to be like, the activities that were going to happen the next day even the "drink of the day" When I bought the tickets, I never mentioned that it was my boyfriends birthday, when I arrived they asked me if we were celebrating anything, I quickly mentioned it. On the day of his birthday, a cute little cake that said happy birthday with a candle was waiting for us in the room along with two mimosas. I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone. The service, the food and the hotel itself made our vacation extra special.

From the second we walked into this hotel, we felt and were treated like royalty. The staff is amazingly friendly and all ... speak great english, but don't mind helping you practice your spanish skills either. We upgraded to the excellence club and thought it was well worth it. We never had to fight for a spot on the beach or at the pool and the excellence club pool has the best bar and bartenders at the resort! We even had a mishap with my husband's foot where he needed stitches and the resort/doctor were wonderful and took care of everything without any fuss. This was our first trip to Mexico, but not our last. We plan on visiting this resort again because we had the most amazing time EVER!!

Chez Isabelle was our favorite restaurant where we visited twice. The Chateau Brione on the tasting menu was the most delicious, and you can order it as a main entree without ordering the tasting part. Also, the Sea Bass was the best piece of fish I have had in a loooong time! Highly recommend it!

Our room was elegant and spacious. We were located across from the spa and had tranquil music playing throughout the day and ... in the evening could hear the music from the band from our own lounge chairs located at the swim up suite. The upgrade to the swim up suite was well worth the extra money for us. We walked out the sliding glass door and jumped into the lazy river, no having to stake your claim at a lounge chair around the pool. The food was fabulous and the staff was great. We ordered room service quite a few times to escape the heat of the day and food was excellent and delivered within 30 minutes.

Be sure not to miss the Michael Jackson show on Tuesday night! It was the best!!

Chez Isabelle and Spice were great restaurants

Show up at 6:00pm to reserve a spot for the Tempanyaki show!
--Toni, Granby, CT Oct 18, 2009
Chez Isabelle was our favorite restaurant where we visited twice. The Chateau Brione on the tasting menu was the most delicious, and you can order it as a main entree without ordering the tasting part. Also, the Sea Bass was the best piece of fish I have had in a loooong time! Highly recommend it!

The shows we saw at the Hotel were good.

Check out the various services/excursions available in in Puerto Morelos. Snorkeling, fishing, Mayan massage just to name a few. If you travel further from this resort...you'll miss the luxury of the Excellence fast!

Our friends went swimming with the dolphins and loved it. The took an excursion from the hotel and it included entrance to a water park. Only about 15 or 20 min away.

A walk on the beach is wonderful early in the morning, you can see the fishing boats come in and get their nets. And the sunrise is beautiful

Spice Restaurant was great - must go early to reserve a spot at the Hibachi though (6pm). Get up early and get a little hut/cabana near the pool bar - they will deliver you food right to your hut - awesome for lunch. Room Service 24 hours per day was also well done.

Don't bother with the bus, its cheap but it only goes to puerto morelos, you will still need to take a taxi to hotel.
--WNY Taveler, Western New York Sep 14, 2009
Ensure that you take enough sunscreen and toiletries etc. to last the duration of your vacation.
--Kim & Ron, Rosenberg, TX Sep 11, 2009
The French restaurant and Spice are the best restaurants in hotel. Pass up on the Lobster House. The Caribbean party had the best local food / buffet and carving station on the beach!!
--TLJ, NYC/BOCA RATON Sep 8, 2009
Food was great - try all the restaurants - we did not have a bad meal in any of them***
--Mom, Atlanta, GA Sep 8, 2009
Figure out transpo from airbport to hotel in advance...cabs were like $70 for a ten-minute drive.
--New Fan of All-Inclusive, NYC Sep 3, 2009
the lobster house was our favorite. superb grilled lobster. and they will adapt to your tastes each nite. even served a filet mignon with my lobster one nite , just for the asking.
--stetco, plainfield,il Sep 3, 2009
go in the summertime if you can...hurricane season offers cheap prices! WE booked only a week before after seeing that the forecast looked good. The resort was only about 1/4 full which made for extraordinary service and no waits at restaurants or bars.
