The Second Avenue beach has the best water for body surfing. The water is warm and clean. Be sure to inquire at each beach whether it has this nasty red seaweed (which NOT red tide). It sticks to the body and smells bad. Apparently it comes in August. At most beaches, there is at least some section where it isn't present.

Grab a map to find the back roads so you don't have to use Main St to get everwhere, it's a bit of a parking lot.

OK Hotel but
MJ Sep 26, 2009
Hotel charged for the use of an electronic wall safe that didn't really work that well (no detailed instructions on it's use) ... I found out about that when I got my credit card bill!! My laptop got a virus ($169.00 to fix) while I was there, probably nothing to do with the hotel but who knows? This was my third stay here and will return.

Very nice place to stay
KeepTru Aug 11, 2009
A very good deal and charming hosts. The motel staff were all very nice and accommodating. The beds were comfortable and the ... room a good size. My only complaints were a musty odor in the room, bad coffee (Folger's) in the breakfast area and neither of the windows opened. I prefer fresh air at night rather than air conditioning. But I think these were minor points. The overall stay was pleasant.

Travelodge Newport Area
Matt Aug 8, 2009
The staff were really pleasant and helpful. The beds were comfortable and firm. The only gripe I had is that they clearly ... do not change the A/C filter often enough, so the A/C air wasn't as fresh as it could be. Otherwise, it was a good basic place to stay.

For the price, I got was I was looking for, a clean, quiet room to spend the night while visiting for my daugther's college ... orientation. The room was very plain, but clean. The staff was very nice and friendly. The hotel is located right on a main road, next to Staples, Home Depot, etc. so you could easily forget you're in Newport, but it was a very short drive back into town (literally minutes). And considering the location, it was nice and quiet. I would definately stay again.

DUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Police May 17, 2009
I have stayed in hundreds of hotels and have never been sick from one until this one. Stay away from here at all costs. You ... cannot regulate the heat, the floor was damp and musty???? unsure why that was. The bathroom floor was as dirty as the road getting there. The staff was sketchy. I asked for new towels in the morning only to come back and have to ask again. My friend and I actually developed a cold by staying in this dump. Thanks for ruining my vaction. I stayed at a MicroTel on the way here for $45 and it was a 5 star compared to this dump.

The Travelodge was an alright hotel. The room smelt like dog since they allow pets and the walls were incredibly thin. We ... werent there for more than 2 hrs before someone already complained about noise. It was out of control. All in all, it wasnt a terrible hotel, would prob spend another night there but only if I didnt go with my friends.

Nice Surprise
Stan Jun 24, 2008
As you can see, we were very satisfied with everything the Newport area Travelodge had to offer. We didn't know, however, ... that the motel offered a continental breakfast, including juice, coffee, bagels, fresh made waffles, pastries, muffins and cereal. If excellent or outstanding were among the descriptors, I would have chosen one of them rather than very satisfied. As a personal bonus - - I'm a scooter enthusiast. The Travelodge is directly across the street from the local Vespa dealership. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and if we visit Newport, RI again, we will probably stay at the same place.
