What a view!
Linda C Dec 31, 2009
My husband took me for a surprise birthday getaway to this great hotel right on the beach in Ventura. Our 8th floor room ... overlooked the Ventura Pier and bay. Comfortable bed and no complaints about the room except for the small, outdated bathroom. A very beautiful view which was highlighted at sunset. We had the best dinner at the Aloha restaurant, right across the courtyard/patio. Great food and hospitality by the owners. I enjoyed the best Cosmo I'd ever had. The next morning we ate breakfast at the hotel's restaurant, C Street. Top rated food! Try their unique take on Huevos Rancheros--Delish!

Very fun and relaxing trip. Great location - right on the beach and very close to Main Street. Lots of cute shops, ... restaurants, and bars. Friendly and efficient service. Small but nice rooms (although toilet was clogged in our 1st room). Bike/walking path is beautiful and great exercise (if you're not a surfer - otherwise definitely bring your board!)

Bring some snacks so you don't have to eat out for every meal. The restaurant is good, but a bit pricey.

Not worth the money!
Kelley G Aug 17, 2009
Room wasn't ready on time, so we certainly had nice people but they tried to put us on the 11th floor with all of the noise ... from the weddings booked right above our heads. The freeway noise and the Amtrak noise to top off the closed roads due to the fair so it was difficult to drive back to the hotel made for a very unpleasant stay! Lots of money due to demand that weekend and a complete waste of money!

moni Jul 6, 2009
The hotel itself inside was nice. Rooms a tittle small. We had a balcony but no furniture out there. I booked through Orbits ... and payed the total amount then. Got home today and the hotel charged me again a few fees totaling over $400! I now need to get a hold of the accouts payable to figure out all these fees. What an inconvenience!

Superb Hotel Right on the Beach
kewlbreezes Apr 22, 2009
I have stayed here a few times and I have always had a very good experience here. Some reviewers seem to have more issues ... with the property than I do. I always get a room up as high as I can, both for views and because it's quieter. The location is outstanding...right on the beach and an easy walk to downtown Ventura. It also has a nice boardwalk right in front of the hotel that allows one to walk quite a distance along the ocean to watch wildlife, surfers and beach-goers. The hotel has a couple of restaurants on the property and many more within a short walk. My only issue with this hotel is I don't really like to pay for parking when I stay at a hotel; but I guess they have to do that because the property is right on the beach and if they didn't charge, day-users of the beach would fill up the lot. I always have a nice-sized room, a nice balcony with great views and everything is clean. Who could ask for more?

Worst value ever
CARL Mar 18, 2008
I stay about 80 nights a year in hotels. I hade to move 4 times twice because the heating/AC unit was defective, once because ... the staff refused to stop a party in adjacent rooms and hall till enough people complaind that at 4:20 AM the police finally arrived and evected the people from the premisis. Once because when we arrived at a new room it was not make up. The building is cheaply constructed and built next to a busy trian train track noise travels like wild fire through walls, floors, ceilings. Room service brough meals but no silver ware to eath with when I call the response was what do you want. I said, a spoon, fork, and knife.

The room comfort was fine ...
Edward Sep 12, 2007
The room comfort was fine except that it was terribly dirty so that made it hard finding it comforting. Upon walking into the ... room your instantly drawn to the balcony and the view of the Pacific ocean. Next to the sliding glass door was a desk which had four to five milky white droplet stains across one corner of the desk. Which when rubbed with a pen tip came right off....the headboard of one of the beds also had a milky white splattering of something across it. Because the headboard was of a blonde wood like maple you couldn't see the splattering unless you examined it at a particular angle but nevertheless disgusting. Next was the nightstand between the two beds; along the side of the nightstand was again a splattering of something milky white. You would think at least one would get non worn out stained towels but thats what we got along with the other stains mentioned (which were easily removable) and the carpeting which had big black spots against fairly light colored carpeting. Here in order to pull up to the hotel you were required to take a parking ticket and the entrance was one way so in order to get out you would need to be validated if you decided not to pay and park elsewhere.

Very nice location, Not recommended for business travelers
Michael Jul 30, 2007
The Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach has a great location right on the beach. The parking was open and secured with a gate (at ... entry and exit) which required a paper ticket ,issued at the front desk, to be inserted to raise the gate. The hotel main lobby was clean and adorned with paintings and other fine art. The bar had adequate seating indoors but very limited seating outdoors (plenty of floor space outside with modern propane heaters) The very small clean room was equipped with double beds with very fine pillows, a small desk by a balcony with desirable views of the beach and ocean and one large comfortable reading chair with an overhead floor lamp for reading light. The closet and bathroom were very small by hotel standards. The closet rod was installed opposite of normal installations deep instead of across. The bathroom lacked a counter top or space to store toiletries comfortably for one person. Instead of counter tops a very small glass shelf was installed below the towels and above the toilet tank. Poor Service/Maintenance During my seven day stay when entering or leaving the parking lot the automated parking attendant did not return the ticket multiple times requiring me to obtain new tickets at the front desk each time. The last three days of my stay the automated parking attendant units where disabled and gates left in the open position most of the time. This was brought tot the attention of the front desk and the staff informed me service was scheduled for next week and confirmed they where experiencing difficulties with the units operation (hotel guest are charged 10 dollars per day for parking where as beach visitors had free access due to failure of the gates.) Parking at times was hard to come by in the open lot. Wake up calls Phone had instructions for self assigned wakeup calls however self service on phone did not work. Front desk was phoned daily to schedule wake up call however one of the days Wednesday I did not receive a scheduled wakeup call. As a business traveler I was very disappointed in this. Alarm clock backup worked in this case.. Maid Service The room was kept clean However the maid service in the hotel was below average for a Crowne Plaza. The room was equipped with a nice clean coffee maker using pouches/pre-sealed cups. Used coffee was not replenished with like kind when room was attended to until the very last days of stay. The maid did not speak or understand English as discovered when trying to request items in the room that were overlooked for replenishment (towels where not replenished, washcloths, soap, or shampoo etc) Lobby/Bar The lobby had three elevators servicing 12 floors working most of the time. At times during the stay, elevators were disabled. It was not uncommon for myself or other guests to make use of the stairs in the fire exit to gain access to the upper floors (7th floor in my case) or lobby instead of waiting in lines up to 10-15 minutes for crowded elevators. Checkout No bill was delivered under my door the morning of departure. At 7 am using the television service to check out I noticed about $27in phantom charges appearing on my bill dated the night before. This was brought to the attention on the hotel desk staff as I had not charged any bar/restaurant items to my room during my stay. It was required to wait until 9:00 am to resolve the room charge made by someone else at the bar the previous night to rectify the misplaced charge on my bill.

Great beach location
Arturo Jul 6, 2007
The Crowne Plaza Ventura is a very nice newly renovated property. the beach location is great for families and beach ... lovers. The old Ventura town is a short walk away. The hotel has a nicely heated pool as well. the restaurant on the property was delicious and the room service menu was good with decent prices. The only negative thing I can say is that one floor of the hotel ( I think the 8th) allows dogs and we had to share an elevator with dogs (some stinky shar peis and others) on more than one occasion. I would think a hotel of this caliber would prohibit pets. The train noise was not that bad, not enough to keep you awake. The hotel does provide you with earplugs, eye mask and a soothing relaxation CD if you need it. The clock/radio in the room also has nature sounds which was nice. We just listened to the sound of the ocean. Eric's on the Pier another great frestaurant is only steps away. Great place to stay. Nice town with several nice thrift stores and the people are friendly. Great laid back atmosphere with beautiful scenery.

The Crowne Plaza hotel in Ventura Beach was disappointing in 2 regards: 1) The bathroom was tiny, with no vanity, no counter ... space, nowhere to put toiletries. 2)We stayed 2 nights, and there were no fresh towels supplied for the second day, no replenishing of soap, etc. The ice bucket wasn't even emptied out. Not what I expected in service or appointments.
