Nice boutique hotel with personalized service, great complimentary continental breakfast, and free parking. Room was not ... luxurious and on the small side, but clean and tastefully decorated. Old tube TV in cabinet could not be seen from bed and low water pressure in shower. A/C was a little difficult to regulate so it was comfortable, either too stuffy or too cold. It was convenient to our family reunion in Santa Monica. It is a drive to the beach. Free shuttle is a plus.

This was our first time staying at the Ambrose. The decor is beautiful and understated. The rooms are clean, bright and the ... beds are very comfortable. The staff is very courteous and very helpful. The location is one block off Wilshire and is only 1.5 miles from the pier. The morning breakfast is very good - great pastries and coffee. The area is quiet and there are many restuarants within walking distance. We will be going back soon.

Nice Boutique Hotel

We were in Santa Monica for a wedding and found the room quiet and peaceful. The "official" wedding hotel a block away ... seemed to be in another world due to the heavy traffic noise on Santa Monica Blvd. Excellent staff and great breakfast, but our room needed some very minor maintenance. The bathroom fan never worked even after mentioning this to the staff twice, but the sliding door lock on our balcony was immediately fixed after we said it wouldn't lock. The walls are a little thin as we were awakened one morning at 2:30 by the couple having a loud physical and verbal argument in the adjacent room. The atmosphere and ambience is much better than any "chain" hotel we've stayed (except for the Ritz and Four Seasons.) We would stay there again.

The Ambrose's London taxi service really makes traveling within Santa Monica convenient. Why fight traffic and valet parking when the taxi will transport you anywhere in town for the price of an optional tip?

3rd St. Promenade and the ocean are great ways to walk around, window shop and get some nice exercise.

Nice stay

I was spending long days caretaking for a friend at St. John's and this hotel was right across the street so very ... convenient. Two things were disappointing: one was the entry walkway was where the smokers hung out. You have no choice but to walk through a wall of smoke to enter the hotel. It was not a positive first impression. Second was the Sunday morning breakfast: it was day-old pastries and they were hard as rocks. After two other mornings of very fresh pastries, that was a huge disappointment. The furniture in my room was badly scuffed and the honor bar lock didn't work. The door wouldn't close all the way either so nothing was very cold. I asked for it to be repaired but it was never done. I was on red alert for charges made to my room that I didn't take from the refrigerator. Fortunately, i never had any. I liked the green aspects of the hotel.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Ambrose while in LA. The hotel is tucked in to a tree-lined street in Santa ... Monica... service is great, setting is relaxing, and the hotel offers many amenities for guests.

Quiet getaway in a busy city

We were visiting our daughter who took us quite easily to shops, sights and restaurants from the hotel. The Ambrose ... provided a really nice quiet environment to live in. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We would go back again.

My daughter and I stayed at the Ambrose when we were in LA for a concert. The hotel was wonderful and the breakfast was more ... than adequate. The hotel is right next to a hospital so next time I would ask to have a room away from the street.

Great hotel at a great price. The only one in the area that gives you FREE parking, breakfast, and wi-fi. The only negative I ... can find is that it is about a mile from the ocean, but I personally liked this feature since that meant a quiet neighborhood and a good night's sleep! Would highly recommend.

Overall we loved it. Great price, excellent continental breakfast, clean rooms, great location, fairly close to everything, ... love the Aveda toiletry products, parking lot very secure and premises, free wifi no passcode needed, great ambiance, loved the style of the building and rooms, very comfortable bedding especially the sheets, knowing that they're green make you feel better.

Try parking in the structures around 2nd and 3rd street, most of them are free. Only a few blocks away from the beach and free compared to expensive ones at the beach.
