--DTM, Jackson, WY Dec 21, 2009
For eating in Vegas it can get expensive quick. Try to find fast food places outside of hotels, because sometimes they can be more expensive inside like a foot long at subway being $8 instead of $5 outside. Many hotels are doing an all day buffet which is nice, because it feeds each person all day and you dont have to worry about what you will get, but the downside is you might not stay around that hotel all day or be hungry three times in a day. Me and My girlfriend went downstairs at h ooters and got a dozen donuts and they are about $9. Make sure you play the free spin every day outside the tropicana, because it can get you free slot play or show tickets. Also when you join the players club at the tropicana you get to scratch a box that tells you how much free slot play you get and you can actually use it on any machine. During the trip I tried to play the slots at many different casinos and i had the best luck at Excalibur. Everyone is going to do good or bad at different places, but thats where my luck was. For kids i would say play at the Excalibur midway they have, because the trade in for tickets is better than at the New York New York. there is a game works located next to M&M world. Check out a Tix4tonight stand. You can get great deals on shows and even food. There is a fee thought so make sure you add that into the price they show. Getting a multi day bus pas can run cheaper than renting a car and they run all over vegas.

Hotel was better then I expected for the price I paid. I read all the reviews before I booked it and I was not sure if I was ... making the right decision or not. I am glad the hotel proved me wrong. The carpets were not as old as the reviews said. The rooms were clean and comfortable. bed was very comfortable to sleep in and the view i had of the strip was very nice. The hotel staff was friendly and we never had a problem with them. They even let us check in early. The only thing I can complain about this hotel was the $100.00 slot play they gave us, it was impossible to win the way they have it set up. But for the location and price I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again. All you really use the room is to shower and sleep so better save the $$ to gamble and spend it on food and beer.

H ooters is a small hotel compared to other hotels on the strip. It is located next to the Tropicana and across from the MGM. ... The location is pretty good, because you are practically on the strip for a fraction of the cost. Next door at the Tropicana there is a show called lets make a deal and it is free to attend and you can win prizes. For the pool area it is not just one pool. There are two smaller main pools that I would compare to the size of a motel 8 pool or something small like that. Those two main pools were freezing cold, but I did go during december. Then there were two warm jacuzzi and one of was 60 person one and then there was a regular hot jacuzzi up off to the right. As far as gambling the 100 dollar promotional credit is a joke. You have to play on a $5 machine and you can only win 3 different amounts and it hardly ever gives it up. My room was much cleaner than i was expecting after reading some other reviews. One day on my trip an employee was on the elevator with me and was telling me how the second floor smelled like weed and when he got off there a wave of stench came in the elevator. For the price of the trip it was good, but i went earlier this year with my parents and stayed at the Wynn and I have to say that if you have the opportunity stay there.

I book a bungalow but ended up staying in the ocean view tower, it could use some updating but it wasn't as bad as some of ... the other reviews would lead you to believe. I had a great time there. If someone is looking for a more upscale place they should pay the extra $ and stay in a suit or a more upscale hotel, so if you are looking for a good price and across the street from the MGM and many other major casinos, I would highly recommend staying at this hotel and casino.

Stayed over Thanksgiving and got terrific rate! Location is close enough to strip at Tropicana to be called a Strip Hotel. ... The place is pretty beat up: surfaces in room, halls, elevators. Parking garage makes you almost want to get back in your car. Friendly staff. Didn't dine there in restaurants or room service, but could not find anything healthy to snack on other than coffee, donuts, ice cream and candy in the convenience store. Quite a lot of families, which must be due to the low rate.

The parking elevator is terrible. It has no lights and it's very shaky. I picked a non-smoking room and it smelled ... terrible. The promotion is not that great. You have to play at the promotion spot and you get to hit the machine 10 times and you're done with your promotion. It's not worth choosing this hotel for their promotion. I hate this hotel so much that I had to check out the same day. I rather loose my hotel money then to spend a night there. This hotel is not good to bring your family in. It's dirty and smelly. The hallway is so scary and dull. Over all the price says it all for this hotel.

I stayed here because of how cheap the room was and the good location. The room was on the small size, but worked for what we ... needed. I got the smoke free room with 2 beds like I asked for, which is way more than what I got at the previous hotel I stayed at in Vegas! The beds only had a sheet and comforter, no blanket, which was a little odd. They also had 2 bottles of water in the room, not sure if they were free or not, we didn't use them. It looked like there was only 1 restaurant to choose from and the casino area seemed to be pretty small, but we didn't end up eating or gambling there. We had a lot of trouble getting a hold of the bell hop to come get our luggage (and finding them when we arrived to see about getting it taken to our room), they seem a little under staffed in that area.

Do not stay in bungalows....
MelKev Nov 18, 2009
I booked a room in their bungalows. The room is VERY small and not the cleanest. There were stains on the carpet, the sink ... and shower were clogged. When i went to hang up a towel, the holder came off the wall and on to the floor. When the guests next door came home, we could hear their entire conversation through the wall. The pool was supposed to be a big attraction with a swim-up bar. There was nothing swim-up about it. You have to get out of the pool to go to the bar. I did not see Hooter girls walking around the pool. Also there was rarely a bartender out there. I must say we complained about our room and were immediately upgraded to their main hotel which was great. Unfortunately the bungalows still left a bad taste in our mouth. We wished we would have spent more on a nicer hotel.

The hotel was really outclassed by the other hotels in the area. With the exception of the swimming pool/waterfall area ... (which was fantastic!), the hotel seemed in need of a serious remodeling. The carpets were old and worn, the hardwood floors were nicked up and the casino itself just didn't stack up compared to the glamourous casinos of the nearby surrounding hotels. We ate at both the namesake restaurant as well as at Dan Marino's which is also in the hotel. We were underwhelmed by the food at both (although the prices were reasonable and service was fine).

Staying at this particular hotel keeps you within a very short walk to some of the fanciest hotels/casinos in Vegas. You get what you pay for at this place, but if the price is significantly cheaper than at MGM/Mandalay Bay/New York New York/etc., and you are working on a budget but wanting to remain close to those places, Hootrs is not a bad choice.
