OK for one night
traveler Nov 18, 2009
We spent one night in the hotel. The fellow at the reception was friendly and helpful. Walls were thin but the noise ... quieted by late evening. Arriving after dark the surroundings seemed unsavory. We took a walk after breakfast and found that the hotel is in an old, crowded neighborhood but not threatening in the daylight. However, if we return to Athens we will look for a different place to stay.

This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. I have never felt sooo unsafe in my life. I had read other reviews that ... said that but decided that people expect too much and that I'd take my chances. I was wrong since I have never seen so many prostitutes, drug dealers, H and crack addicts, and sketchiness in my life ......Omonia square is dangerous, but if you are in one of the other hotels located on the main streets around the square you will be fine, but Zinon is tucked away so you have to walk through unidentifiable street liquid and crowds of street urchins. The hotel itself is fine, its a budget hotel, prettty barebones, but suits the needs for a city that has so much to offer.

Taxis are a good value for short distances within the city, but you have to be aggressive if you are traveling with children and only want a cab for a short distance. Many cab drivers would simply decline to serve us. I learned to leave the kids on the curb, hail the cab, and open the door before declaring our destination and the presence of children. For the most part, the drivers were super nice once we started going, but Athens cab drivers deserve their bad reputation.

Hotel room was mostly cramped. Beds could use a little upgrade. There's absolutely no view, and the side street is pretty ... dirty. Bathroom is tiny, and floods easily. The main good thing about this hotel was the good breakfast spread they had.

Nice Hotel, Bad Neighborhood
American Traveler Jul 25, 2009
The hotel staff were very helpful when I booked a guided tour to Delphi, which I highly recomend, but were not very helpful ... when I asked about the city buses. The hotel itself is very nice, but its in an area that is full of many unscrupulous looking people, and it is rather distant from the Acropolis and major sights of the city.

Not a very good hotel
Athens Jun 21, 2009
It is in the bad part of Athens. The taxi driver that took me to the hotel told me not to travel at night there. And he was ... right. There were drunks just outside the door. People caring needles out in the open. And avid prostitution just up the street. This was all happing in the middle of the day. The room was small and not very clean. The bathroom shared a crawl space with the room next to it and it sounded like when someone in that room used the bathroom they were using yours. I do not recommend this hotel for anyone that has children. The staff was friendly and helpful, but the location and general condition of the room took away from what the staff tried to do.

Secure hotel in a dreadful neighborhood
Traveling Mom Jun 18, 2009
The rooms were very comfortable -- the most comfortable we stayed in in Athens. Flat screen TV, nice clean bathroom, good ... breakfast buffet, excellent staff at the front desk. However, the neighborhood is dicey during the day and downright spooky at night. We took taxis to and from the hotel after dark.

Would stay again
ZD Jun 13, 2009
I was very hesitant to stay at this hotel because of mixed reviews and not-so-good pictures, but my experience proved to be ... very positive. The hotel is very up to date, not at all as questionable-looking as the pictures. The room was very clean and modern with a balcony. Shower was tiny, but that's a common theme throughout Europe. Breakfast was free of charge and included cold cuts, cold salads, cereal, even cookies. There were two computers with internet access, but one wasn't working. Overall I am very happy with the hotel but wished it was located in another area, as I had difficulty finding it at first. The area isn't THAT bad, I'm 24 years old woman and travelling alone and I did just fine. I didn't go out very late at night but the area seems only crowded with questionable individuals actually right before dusk at which time it is also very noisy, but the streets seemed pretty empty by midnight and those looking for a good-night's sleep shouldn't have to worry.

Not in this neighborhood!
Gabs Jun 9, 2009
We only stayed at this hotel one night and that's all I needed. The Omonia neighborhood is ok during the day but in the ... evening it is scarry. The area is poorly lit and there are creepy men just lingering at night. This hotel has cheap rates but it's not worth it. If you're going to stay in Omonia to save some money at least stay on the busy/main streets. The other evenings we stayed at the Best Western Pythagorian (also in Omonia) and the hotel was a little nicer and on a main street. It felt a little safer but not much. I would highly recommend another area like Syntagma or Monastiraki.
