Great Hotel for the price

Beth's Mom Nov 13, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We found the hotel to be very welcoming and pretty. The location is excellent and having shops right inside the lobby is very ... convenient. Also, the Jimmy Buffett's restaurant, which is also right inside the lobby area, is an excellent place to eat any meal of the day. Most of the tour buses will pick you up either right at the hotel or only a block away. The tour kiosk right in front of the hotel is very helpful and accomodating. The room is lovely and the only problem we had was the early morning garbage pick up below our window. Ask for a front facing room.

A good place to visit

Deano the Beachcomber Nov 1, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The hotel is centrally located in the heart of Waikikii. Close to the beach, above the International Market Place, next to ... good dining places and a short walk to the beach. the hotel is clean with a pleasant and helpful staff. Nightlife is close and all the attractions are easily accessed from the location. If you want to see the ocean from your room, this is not there as view is blocked by other hotels across the street and directly on the beach. However, the location is right in the middle of the action for both nightlife and beach access. I would stay there again.

This was a clean and enjoyable place to stay, it was very convenient because it was so close to everything. There are free ... trollies that pass right in front of the hotel and go all around the island, and shuttle services stops for excursions are all within walking distance. No need to rent a car! We had a great stay. Most everything was within walking distance. We tried several restaurants that were close by. The Rum ... Ohana Beachcomber August 2009

Solo Dan Aug 25, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

I stayed here for 4 nights and could not have been happier with the choice to stay there. Unless you want to pay twice as ... much to stay at the Outrigger or Moana Surfrider across the street, this is the best bet. This hotel is in the perfect location for pretty much anything. The beach is right across the street, there is shopping everywhere near by, amazing selection of restaurants, bus access was a two minute walk away, and the Waikiki clubs/bars were all within walking distance. The rooms were a little small but they were classy and kept extremely clean and the pool was also a bit on the small side. Every last staff member that I interacted with was beyond nice, the definition of ALOHA. One caveat, Waikiki is hustle-and-bustle, with lots of partying and socializing. If you are looking for a much more laid-back experience, I would suggest one of the outer islands or a stay in Kailua on Oahu. I visited these places after staying in Waikiki and the experience was much calmer and slow-paced.

Great local/rooms - staffing flaws

Sunbuns Aug 23, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The hotel is located across the street from the Outrigger and had a pass through to the beach - which was very handy. Our ... first room was small/cramped and had a Queen bed. We asked to be moved to another room It was located on the opposite side of the building overlooking the International Market and had a peek-a-boo ocean view. The room was almost twice the size of our previous room and had a king size bed. This room was great and we were very pleased with it. We enjoyed sitting outside on our lanai. Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, in our 8 night stay, we were awakened on two seperate nights by fire alarms. The first night at around 3 am the alarm went off and on for a period of time and guests were unsure whether to evacuate or stay. We couldn't get through to the front desk -lines were busy. We made the decision to be safe and leave. When we got to the front desk, security were heavy in discussions with police. There was nobody at the bottom of the emergency stair exit to assist or inform guests what was happening or where to go - it was disorienting. It wasn't until we went to the front of the building we were informed by other guests that it was a false alarm. There were persons staying in the hotel with disabilities as well as those with children who had to make their way down the stairs and if the hotel staff knew it was a false alarm, should have notified these guests. The second night when the alarm went off again around midnight, awaking us. This time they made an announcement through the PA system outside in the hallway informing guests it was a false alarm. This should have been done the first night. The guests comments we overheard were very negative towards staff and management with regard to procedure/protocol. Except for these incidents, we enjoyed visiting Jimmy Buffet's Margueritaville located in the hotel. I would still recommend the hotel and stay there again.

Shopping tip, Short Walk

An excessive amount of places to shop up and down the street as well as dining. If you want to go there to shop and eat, this is the hotel to stay in!

Entertainment tip, In Hotel

Jimmy Buffet's Margueritaville

Recreation/Attractions tip, Short Drive

The Polynesian Cultural Center - a must see for any visitor to Oahu, one hour drive by tour bus; traditional Polynesian games for all ages, canoe pageant featuring a variety of Polynesian dances, native villages, cultural demonstrations, IMAX show, buffet lunch and dinner, and an amazing performance at the end of the day.

Recreation/Attractions tip, Short Walk

You can find many things to do without spending a lot. Get to know the island and the local transportation and you will find yourself in amazing places. Dining out costs and eating unfamiliar foods can be balanced with finding typical fast food places. If you get too hot - duck into one of the shopping galleries. Buy the large $.99 bottle of water to fill up a spare smaller bottle to carry around! Shopping - so many stores! No matter what type of shopper you are, how much or little you want to spend - this is where you can find what ever you are looking for. Go to the Flee Market! Tours on the trolleys - great way to see the island, but start early so you can enjoy time at some of the stops (featured attractions) and catch tne next trolley - which could be an hour wait!

Nightlife tip, Short Walk

Right oustside of hotel.

Time savers tip

There was a 5 hour time change...I can't imagine doing that to small children. It is tough and finding something to do at 3 am Hawaii time is tough. THe hotel needs HBO or something to watch. TV channels are limited.

--gram, Oklahoma Jul 1, 2009

Money savers tip

There is a shuttle at the airport that charges 15 for roundtrip to hotel. USE IT. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THE 40 roundtrip sold on this site.

--mssmith, honolulu hawaii Jun 29, 2009

Shopping tip, Short Walk

Don't just shop all the highend shops, there are many shops throughout Wakiki with great bargains. Also, there are many shops in the hotels, so be sure to check them out as well.

--Alabama Bound, Stanton, Alabama Jun 15, 2009

Shopping tip, Short Walk

Shopping & the beach are are just steps away from the hotel.

Money savers tip, Short Walk

The ABC stores is a great place to get everything you need for a fairly good price. They're everywhere! Feel free to bargain with any of the vendors when purchasing anything such as jewlery or other knick knacks. We found taking the shuttle was a lot cheaper than a taxi and was just as fast.

--Mimi, Seattle, WA Jun 2, 2009

Shopping tip, Short Walk

International Marketplace is only a few steps away. Bring cash so that you can negotiate the price of souvenirs. For example, 7 shirts for $20.

Dining tip, In Hotel

Jimmy Buffet's restaurant has a great breakfast and the dinner we had there was very, very good.

--Hawaii Firsttimer, Madison, AL May 26, 2009

Recreation/Attractions tip, Short Walk

"Dawn Patrol" surf at Waikiki. Locals are friendly, helpful and talk story while waiting for the sets to roll in. If you make a mistake they'll let you know but always in a positive way so we all can learn. Take advantage of it every morning!

--Old Guy, Lake Arrowhead, CA May 12, 2009

Recreation/Attractions tip, Short Drive

Snokelling and sunbathing at Nanauma Bay. Accessible by bus.

--Julie the traveller, Vancouver, BC, Canada May 10, 2009
