We did not stay in the hotel very much. The staff was extremely nice. The pool was beautiful. It was a great place to start ... excursions into Oahu. Not a family friendly hotel if you have small children. There is not alot for them to do at this hotel. However, who wants to just stay in a hotel with all the beautiful scenery of Hawaii!

The Beachcomber was an unwittingly perfect choice for my vacation. In the thick of the Waikiki scene and a very short walk ... to the beautiful beach. Friendly staff and a clean hotel. My room didn't really have a view, but then I just slept in it so who cares? You don't go to Waikiki to spend time in your hotel room. You're in beautiful Hawaii! Another plus... all major transport runs by the front door. Tours, taxis, city buses, free trolleys and bike & moped rental just a couple blocks away. My only negative comment: Poor water pressure in the shower. I could live with it but I would have used less water to wash out the salty sea water from my many trips to the ocean. One suggestion for them: Install a rinse off area outside the hotel for beach goers to spray sand off their feet. I will definitely return to the Beachcomber ( unless I can afford the swanky beachfront hotels ) Mahalo!

Make use of the trolley transport that take you around Waikiki and to the big mall where you can hook up with regional bus service. The trolley is free with your Hotel key card. Don't be in a rush. The trolley and buses make many stops. I also recommend renting a bike. The coast front parts of Honolulu are very flat and biking around is easy and relatively inexpensive.

great price for location
CCB Dec 7, 2009
I will tell you a story that happened to me. I awoke early and went on to the balcony. I went to put my glasses on. I was ... staying on the 15th floor. as i got to the rail the right lens popped out of my glasses and of course it went over. Down to the breezeway roof.about 13 floors. Thinking that it was lost for ever. I proceeded to check out. I mentioned it to the front desk, and they said they would have someone check. I waited about 10 minutes and the guy said he did not find it. I figured it was lost. then the guy said i could look if I want to. I said ok. He took me up there and we looked about another 10 minutes. I said it was ok and lets go. He was walking back to the door to the roof and looked down and there it was. My trip was saved. He went beyond the call of service.

Great Hotel for the price
Beth's Mom Nov 13, 2009
We found the hotel to be very welcoming and pretty. The location is excellent and having shops right inside the lobby is very ... convenient. Also, the Jimmy Buffett's restaurant, which is also right inside the lobby area, is an excellent place to eat any meal of the day. Most of the tour buses will pick you up either right at the hotel or only a block away. The tour kiosk right in front of the hotel is very helpful and accomodating. The room is lovely and the only problem we had was the early morning garbage pick up below our window. Ask for a front facing room.

A good place to visit
Deano the Beachcomber Nov 1, 2009
The hotel is centrally located in the heart of Waikikii. Close to the beach, above the International Market Place, next to ... good dining places and a short walk to the beach. the hotel is clean with a pleasant and helpful staff. Nightlife is close and all the attractions are easily accessed from the location. If you want to see the ocean from your room, this is not there as view is blocked by other hotels across the street and directly on the beach. However, the location is right in the middle of the action for both nightlife and beach access. I would stay there again.

We had a great stay. Most everything was within walking distance. We tried several restaurants that were close by. The Rum ... The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful.

I stayed here for 4 nights and could not have been happier with the choice to stay there. Unless you want to pay twice as ... much to stay at the Outrigger or Moana Surfrider across the street, this is the best bet. This hotel is in the perfect location for pretty much anything. The beach is right across the street, there is shopping everywhere near by, amazing selection of restaurants, bus access was a two minute walk away, and the Waikiki clubs/bars were all within walking distance. The rooms were a little small but they were classy and kept extremely clean and the pool was also a bit on the small side. Every last staff member that I interacted with was beyond nice, the definition of ALOHA. One caveat, Waikiki is hustle-and-bustle, with lots of partying and socializing. If you are looking for a much more laid-back experience, I would suggest one of the outer islands or a stay in Kailua on Oahu. I visited these places after staying in Waikiki and the experience was much calmer and slow-paced.

If you are there to do a little partying, it doesn't get any better than the Red Lion (on the same street) on Monday night. $0.75 rail cocktails and $3 pitchers is one of the best drink specials I have seen anywhere.

You can find many things to do without spending a lot. Get to know the island and the local transportation and you will find yourself in amazing places. Dining out costs and eating unfamiliar foods can be balanced with finding typical fast food places. If you get too hot - duck into one of the shopping galleries. Buy the large $.99 bottle of water to fill up a spare smaller bottle to carry around! Shopping - so many stores! No matter what type of shopper you are, how much or little you want to spend - this is where you can find what ever you are looking for. Go to the Flee Market! Tours on the trolleys - great way to see the island, but start early so you can enjoy time at some of the stops (featured attractions) and catch tne next trolley - which could be an hour wait!

The ABC stores is a great place to get everything you need for a fairly good price. They're everywhere! Feel free to bargain with any of the vendors when purchasing anything such as jewlery or other knick knacks. We found taking the shuttle was a lot cheaper than a taxi and was just as fast.
