This hotel has an old style charm, large clean rooms. We stayed in a 2 person suite which included jets in the tub and small ... kitchen area. The room was spacious. It was just a few blocks from Union Square so it was easy to get around San Francisco. I would stay here again. It was very reasonably priced. Staff was nice. They provided coffee, tea and some pastry in the morning and wine, cheese and crackers in the evening. Very nice lobby area.

Comfortable and convenient
trotter Oct 26, 2009
The hotel is centrally located near Union Square, the cable car, and the Theatre District. The valet parking was a bargain ... at $25 and we did not have to wait (we had a Friday, late morning departure). We had a room on the 7th floor. It was large, 2 queens, a double sink bathroom and kitchenette. It is older and not fancy but comfortable and clean. The clientele was a nice mix of families, small groups and mid aged couples. The staff was helpful and the service was good. There is a large comfortable lobby that also serves as their complimentary wine and cheese area, in the late afternoon, and the continental breakfast in the morning.

You can park overnight in a nearby meter on the street, but check to see which days they clean the street (between 6am-8am). The days alternate from one street to the next.
--Mom, Salt Lake City, UT Aug 11, 2009
The nearby #38 bus ($1.50 fare in exact change) will take you east or west along Geary Street. If you want to get to the Castro or Fisherman's Wharf area, catch one of the historic streetcars on Market Street. This is called the F line, also part of MUNI, and it also costs $1.50. While walking to public transport, be aware that the Tenderloin neighborhood (due south of the Beresford Arms) is a little seedier than most, but you can walk east on Post, then south on Powell Street to get to Market.

The hotel room was spacious - like a mini-studio with a kitchenette (that was unexpected!). The room was clean, although the ... sirens heard few times indicated the single panel windows may need to be upgraded (probably nearby fire station). The staff is *extremely* nice. For the price, the location and experience were great!

Great Hotel!
Mom Aug 11, 2009
The rooms are very spacious and clean, and ours included a small kitchen stocked with a complete set of dishes. The rooms ... have a home-like flavor with with crystal chandeliers, Queen Ann dressers and jetted bathtubs. It is located just 3 blocks from Union Square. A continental breakfast is served. My only complaint was that I had to go to the front desk to request a blow dryer and parking cost $25 per day.

Very nice stay. It would be honest to advertise the neighborhood as Tenderloin, not Union Square. You should stay alert ... walking several streets, where there are many agressive homeless. Especially evening, and avoid at night, especially Jones St towards Market and 7th Av. Post St itself is fine, and many asian restaurants in the neighboorhood are also fine. Just be careful walking around.

Nice, older hotel near downtown
Frugal Traveler Jun 8, 2009
A good value, pleasant hotel walkable to downtown SF. We stayed for a week in June at $90/night for a queen room. My only ... complaint was slight noisiness: The rooms have old-fashioned radiators for heating, and someone downstairs from us must have turned theirs on a few times in the middle of the night (it was chilly outside, though we were fine in our room). The clanking noise was annoying. The windows are a bit thin, so you might hear traffic and sirens at times. We couldn't hear any noise from other rooms, other than the radiator. Best points: Free breakfast every morning, including good coffee, fresh donuts, muffins, croissants and sometimes cubed watermelon and cantaloupe. Free wine and cheese hour every afternoon. Helpful clerks at the front desk, who arranged a car to the airport for us and advised us on which cable car line to take. We had a comfortable, clean room with a nice hot shower and a small bathtub. The room included a mini fridge, TV with VCR, a dresser, 2 armchairs, 2 side tables and a fan. The rest of the hotel has charming red carpets, a glass chandelier and grandather clock in the lobby and winding staircases (when you don't feel like using the elevator) with Art Deco prints of Golden Gate National Park attractions. You can find good Thai food across the street at Thai Stick, or tasty Indian food nearby at Pakwan.

Great deal
Pete May 8, 2009
The price was right at $99/night, and they were kind enough to upgrade us to a junior suite in the back (we wanted a quiet ... room). The hotel is in a central location, although there are some walking routes to Market St that take you through some bad areas. Best to head towards Union Square and down to Market. The rooms haven't seen a renovation for some time, but everything was clean and neat. Even though we were in the back, there was still a bit of noise from nearby clubs and the airshaft. But overall, a nice stay for the price.

Jeanie Oct 25, 2008
the room & furnishings were pretty nice and comfortable, and the jacuzzi was the best. I loved it. There was an actual ... bidette in the junior sweet. There was a lot of noise outside and either above us or down the halls. There was a child running up and down the halls at midnight, over and over. I was unable to sleep most of the night but my guests slept fine. It would be nice to have air conditioning for both cooling and white noise. There were people partying hard outside and you could see there shadows on the opposite walls, They were screaming too.

Patricia Oct 20, 2008
The rooms and the bathrooms are large. They appear to be remodeling some rooms, the room we stayed in was not remodeled and ... there were stains on the carpet. The bathroom was very clean; I liked that the bathroom had double sinks. There was a mirror on the dresser and on the sliding doors of the closet. The location is great, only 4 blocks from Union Square. Great places to eat and shop in walking distance.

The location of the Beresford Arms is a few blocks from Powell street where the cable cars run. If you have a lot of luggage it's best to take a taxi from the airport instead of Bart and the cable car. If you want to try some delicious International cuisine, there's an Indonesian, Thai and Indian restaurant very near by.
