Fisherman's Grotto on the wonderful original Wharf area.( Family often went there in the early 1960's) Thank you to Monteray for not changing the Wharf area...I had not been here for 12 years (grew-up in the Valley), so wonderful to feel as if I was back in time with a few great updates.

SF Traveler Aug 10, 2009
Warm welcome by friendly staff. The room we requested was unavailable due to a small problem but we were given another very ... comparable room and we were quickly comped for our daughter's rollaway bed and provided with a bottle of wine which we enjoyed poolside. And speaking of pools, this one was always set at the perfect temperature. Their tapas restaurant, [...], was an unexpected surprise with an entertaining flamenco guitarist. My husband and I decided this would be "our" hotel from now on when we make the short trip from San Francisco.

The staff, from the front desk to the housekeepers and security guard, were all extremely friendly. The location is ... excellent; it's walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf, or a very short walk to the trolley that takes you around Monterey. The only drawback was that if you were just outside my room, you were overlooking a neighboring parking lot next to a dilapidated building.

My 8 year old and I spent a couple hours at the spa. Such a friendly staff. Nothing could have made our stay any better. I ... accidently put 2 adults only when booking our room so we were given a smaller room with one bed....We called down to the front desk and within only 10 minutes, we were given a delux room with 2 beds and much more room. Excellent service

SFnative Jul 1, 2009
Our recent stay at this hotel or should I say motel was ok. It was noisy since we were in Room 184 and I think the cleaning ... staff hangs out upstairs or something cuz they were rolling rollaway beds down the stairs when my kids were napping. The rooms are redone, but it's still basically a motel. Overpriced. Location is good and pool was nice, but that was it. Will probably never stay there again.

A very convenient location--car is a must to visit starred attractions 17-mile drive, carmel-by-the-sea, pacific grove. ... Although, their was a free trolley (every 12 min) located 2 short blks away that stopped at quite a few of the more notable locations. The hotel itself was a gem. all the amenities were above average the room size could be bigger and furniture arrangement needed looking into. The staff were above average.

Of course, any visitor to Monterey must go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It is a short drive from the hotel and must be visited, especially if you are traveling with children. It is an unparalleled opportunity to see & learn about the ocean and its creatures. I also definitely recommend taking the Aquarium's 'behind the scenes' tour for an extra $12 per person.
