Good location for Black Hills vacation
Diane May 27, 2008
The Comfort Inn, Hill City, SD was a good base location for seeing most of the Black Hills sites. It is a plain hotel with ... not much amentities but it works well for a base camp. The breakfast area was always very crowded which caused several folks to either have to stand or take food back to their rooms. They did have an outdoor patio where you could eat but a couple of the days it snowed so you could not go out. The clerk did not tell us there was not an elevator before he scheduled us in a room on the 2nd floor. It would be difficult for an older person to get the suitcases up and down the staircase if they were on the upper floor. The whole hotel was non-smoking which was wonderfu. There is a gas station with Subway located right next door which made it easy to get snacks. The hotel is too far on the outskirts of town to walk to the resturants in town. You will need to drive.
Traveler type: Couples
You have to have dinner at the Alpine Inn. They only serve beef filets for dinner (a 9 oz and 7 oz) with a baked potato, wedge of lettuce with salad dressing and bread. The price is unbelievable low and the beef was excellent. Be sure to check out the imported German beers. Make a reservation or you will have a wait to get in.
