Business trip
Kickstart Nov 15, 2009
The hotel is listed as a "university area hotel," but it is a couple miles (about 10min) from the university up busy Rt 29. ... There are several other hotels actually closer to UVA and the downtown area, if needed. The staff was very attentive and courteous and the room was comfortable. I was in town on a house-hunting trip of approximately a week, so a fridge and/or microwave in the room would have been appreciated (room only had a coffee maker). Access to a fitness center was important to me, and the hotel had a small exercise room with 2 treadmills, a stair stepper, and a recumbent bike. All-in-all, it was a good experience and I would stay here again (although maybe elsewhere if I really needed to be "close" to UVA).

Should be better
Hoping for a getaway weekend Oct 19, 2009
This hotel stay was just underwhelming. Room service messed up our order. The room service food wasn't that good. Room ... service didn't answer the second night at all. The room had weird smells but we couldn't find the source of the problem. There were just enough annoying little problems to sour me on the whole stay.

Holiday Inn has maintenance prbblems
short time traveler Oct 7, 2009
Checked in, desk staff was warm and personable. Went to room and bathroom light had a 10 minute delay before coming in. Call ... front desk and informed them of problems. They changed the room. Inspected second room, room entrance light flashed like a strobe light Hotel. Staff tried to change room again but that new room did not have refrigerator. Pillows on bed were small, requested more pillows, staff brought more pillows but one was torn with filling going all over the floor. Bathtub had mold going underneath soapdish and there was dust on top on light fixture. The toilet seat kept falling down after being raised completely to the vertical position. The computer chair was too short for using a laptop on the desk in the room. There was not enough electrical outlets by the desk. This hotel was about 35 years old with the minimal of room amenities.

Good place to stay
Travelers Aug 16, 2009
Overall, our stay at the Holiday Inn was a good experience. We were checked in very quickly upon arrival, and the room was ... clean and seem like it had been updated recently. We didn't try the hotel restaurant, but it looked like it had a good menu, and it offers a great breakfast selection. The location is great for everything, whether it be visiting UVA, going to Monticello, or visiting the downtown area.

Under Contruction
Mike Jun 25, 2009
The hotel was obviously under construction. The manager, while very friendly and sympathetic, could not correct many of the ... problems - no wi-fi in entire wing of hotel, etc. The expected renovations sounded wonderful but at the present time the place showed many signs of deferred maintenance. Advice: Wait until 2010 to stay there.

This is an absolutely perfect location if you are visiting a child at UVA or visiting Charlottesville. It has great ... proximity as well and easy access to all the shopping nearby. The room was large, and comfortable, and the hotel has just been updated , so it is pretty much brand new. It was perfect for us while we were visiting our son.

Misplaced priorities
Wade Aug 9, 2007
I had a growing negative impression of the hotel as I stayed more nights. First I noticed that the in room cable television ... choices did not allow to keep up with news or regular shows I like to watch. It wasn't even basic cable. A real cheat for the regular prices. The hotel had many functions (blood drive, etc.) that while being worthy in themselves, really disrupted the comfort and convenience of the paying customer. I felt cheated and insulted by the management. The hotel laundry was broken the entire time and the in room bath and room cleaning was minimal. Altogether, a dissatifying experience.
