The images you'd expect from a tropical paradise are here: stretches of beach arc into the distance, and white sails skim across water so blue and clear it stuns the senses. Red-roof houses color the green hillsides as do the orange of the flamboyant tree, the red of the hibiscus, the magenta of the bougainvillea, and the blue stone ruins of old sugar mills. Towns of pasteltone villas, decorated with filigree wrought-iron terraces, line narrow streets that climb from the harbor. Amid all the images you can find moments -- sometimes whole days -- of exquisite tranquillity: an egret standing in a pond at dawn, palm trees backlighted by a full moon, sunrises and sunsets that send your spirits soaring with the frigate birds flying overhead.

Fun week in Paradise
Candyland Nov 25, 2009
We spent the week staying here while attending the Paradise Jam basketball tournament in Nov 2009. We were assigned a room ... in the Morning Star beach resort. Pool and beach were well maintained and quiet. Room was nice. Staff was friendly and responsive to any request. Food and drinks are a little high but we found that to be the case everywhere, not just at the resort. Great trip!!

Although we would see people around, it seemed like we had the huge resort to ourselves. Not crowed at all. The staff was ... friendly. The prices in the store were extremely expensive (bag of nachos and jar of salsa $21). Best deal was the salads in the store ($10). The hotel is beat. There are always employees doing things but it just needs some love. They updated the lobby and there were new rugs in most places - but there were holes in the walls and the pool areas look a bit worn. The price wasn't bad so I can't complain too much.

The hotel had a great room with balcony overlooking the ocean with great view. Room was spacious and clean. Bathrooms were ... the only area that could use a makeover. Set up and scenery is amazing and couldnt have been better. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Beautiful Resort, gorgeous beach!!
YiSunMe Oct 29, 2009
Beautiful weather the entire trip, our room overlooked the beach and we had our own private balcony which was nice. It wasn't ... very crowded, and the staff was always friendly. The beach was amazing, and the restaurants at the hotel(3 of them) were excellent. We went to the Ocean Park which was fun, would definately recommend for any families. Visited Coco Beach right next door to the Park after some of the feedings and went snorkeling for cheap, this was a busier beach but very beautiful and lots of fish. Downtown was ok, we were asked for money a few times....The Green Room downtown has amazing food, our waiter was [...] and he was one of the friendliest and most helpful waiters we've had anywhere.Downsides to the hotel was that there was no shuttle service to downtown, only a 10 minute drive but a taxi cost at least $15 each way. The hotel charged $16/day for Wi-Fi, and Verizon had no coverage at all on the island so we were pretty much in the bermuda triangle tech-wise. Also, groceries were priced incredibly high, recommend bringing your own snacks if possible. I don't mind paying for attractions/equipment/great dining, but the basic necessities at the hotel should have been cheaper. Finally, we got the shuttle service from the airport to our hotel which cost a pretty penny. After arriving we found out we could've had a taxi take us to and from for less than 1/3 the cost of the shuttle.

An incredible destination wedding
Mom of groom and bride Oct 26, 2009
This was my sons destination wedding. The setting of hotel and wedding site were even more beautiful than the photos. There ... were some problems with rooms but solved quickly and graciously. Most guests were early 30s professionals and a few family members who were seasoned travelers. All were very pleased and would return. Bride and groom were absolutely happy and hope to return for anniversaries. [...] the wedding planner very attentive. Wedding dinner at havana blue was exquisite. Excellent unique food magnificent atmosphere. For what we got a very good price . Very attentive staff. [...] was fantastic. Everyone very accomodating. Wedding licence very easy.

We did a lot of activities during our stay which included scuba diving and Coral Ocean World Park. The hotel helped arrange ... these day excursions with ease, but also did not take into account previously purchased tickets, which we are now trying to get a refund for. Our stay would have been more enjoyable if we knew about the attractions hours of operation ahead of time. Scheduling all of our activities was time consuming and irritating.

Good Value, Perfect Location
Mike Sep 23, 2009
Came Aug 20, 2009 for 1 week, reserved 2 rooms in Frenchman's Reef- one ocean view and one garden view (cheaper). Asked to ... upgrade garden to ocean and got 2 rooms on 5th (top) floor in building C with balconies to the beach and ocean. In the morning, sun is rising from behind the hill on the left , the ocean and beach views are unbelievably beautiful. Especially when large cruise ship is coming to the town. Photos on a balcony with cup of coffee and the ship in the background on a blue sea look wow! Another beautiful view - in the night across the harbor the lights of the Charlotte Amalie town on the mountain slopes. Seat either on the veranda of RumBar or inside Windows on the Harbor restaurant, by the glass wall. In our rooms, the air conditioner worked well, not too loud in the night. Coffee maker, TV, mini-fridge all worked. Laptops on internet worked but pricey - $16/24 hrs. Beach is long and half-empty with nice sand, fine but not dusty. As this is open ocean, waves are always present. When they are calm the water in full sun is crystal clear greenish-light blue. There are rocks with tropical fish on both ends of the beach. Higher waves do not interrupt swimming but make water less transparent, no snorkeling then. A pool is near the beach,we prefer to seat there undet the palm trees, and swim in the ocean. Coco Joe restaurant at the beach, with good Mexican and Caribbean food, and with cocktails (we liked "voodoo bucket" - 4 rums with 5 juices in a quart-size bucket). A lot of iguanas, bearded and peaceful. Just don't feed them. A larger pool near the hotel - many people prefer it to the beach, because of volleyball in the pool and a cocktail stand - seat on stool in the water and drink. It was an almost perfect vacation. Just a little lack of enterntainment - in the evening there is nothing to do in the hotel other than restaurants with no live music. So couple of times we took a taxi and visited some nearby places at Bolongo Bay (10 min drive) with music and dancing. Get all-inclusive package. Food is good but pricey. Bottom line: perfect ocean vacation, no problem with hotel amenities or service.

Well just like a lot of people i too was hesitant about this property, so while my experience is still fresh i will ... proceed....First of all the wait for our room was a little long ok but we are on vacation no bother there,I was upset however about the room not having a balcony to sit out on especially when i requested that, but orbits did give me a credit for that.Food there is very expensive as well as taxi service,I highly recommend renting a car $$$ money ahead!!! if not plan on paying at least 40.00 round trip plus tip if you wish, with our trip breakfast was included however when we checked out the front desk tried to charge for that, didn't happen though!! Breakfast at windows is the best!!! ate there every morning, went to the grocery store to buy fruit lunch stuff and drinks,$$$ ahead there too!! we had pizza delivered one night only 23.00 very good!! Dinner at Havanna Blue is amazing if you like seafood try the salmon best i ever had!! we did the timeshare but did not purchase and received 100.00 used it towards dinner at Havanna,Shipwreck is good hugh hamburgers enough for two,Paradise Island is a lot fun good music and food not pricey, sky lift up very nice!! you got too go to Magan's Bay beach, and St John's Trunk Bay you will love both very Beautiful,Coco Joes was fun free drinks from the bartender [...] very fun guy!!! all in all i believe this is a very nice place to stay and we will return,if you work out get there early for it is small all treadmills were taken by 7:00 have fun and just enjoy!! We came on a family vacation. We had such a great time we did not want to leave!!! The rooms were nice- pretty average. ... However, the cleaning staff did not clean the sand out of the tub or off the bathroom floor, or room floor! And if you had food that wasn't covered- little bugs were quick to invade it!!! But I think that's the tropic! Our room had a GREAT private porch that looked out to the ocean- we loved that! It was far down to the beach but it was worth it- great beach!! And they did have an elevator, so that helped. Weren't real impressed with the choice of restaurants in the hotel so we ate out which worked out great!!! We rented a car and that was great except they drive on the opposite side of the road and the roads were narrow and lots of STEEP hills. Not a lot of signs to help find things when you are driving around. Overall- we LOVED it. I want to go back tommorrow!!

Rude & unfriendly management staff. First room, A/C soaked carpet was found as we checked in (obvious issue overlooked by ... staff) and not clean. Second room, forced into a king size bed (versus 2 doubles) and had to use a roll-away entire stay. A/C broke in second room too along with not being clean. Jacuzzi was broken for an entire week. No free wi-fi (expensive cost of $15 per day). Had to "beg" for housekeeping to clean room properly. Do not bother using this hotel.

The pool and beach were lovely and never too crowded. Highly recommend taking the hotel's water taxi downtown. The half day ... snorkle was reasonably priced and definitely worthwhile. Our room was a little out of the way, but it looked like no matter where you stayed you would have a great view. I also got a terrific manicure at the on-site spa.

If you are a true vegetarian there are very few options even though there are several restaurants on site (if you eat seafood you'll be ok). There are no other places to eat within walking distance of the hotel so if you want to dine off site you'll have to take a cab. Service at Coco Joe's one night was VERY slow (way beyond "island time"). The bartender and waitress at Rumbar were always friendly and fun. For a party night off site with local flavor try Duffy's Loveshack on Wednesday nights (it is ladies night and well drinks are free).

There is a wendy's, KFC, Domino's and Pizza Hut, as well as other restaurants in the town to get dinner from and you can take it back to your room, if you don't want to stay out. This saves a lot of money because each meal we ate(breakfast, lunch, Dinner) at the hotel was at least $50 for two.
