Great location... great staff!

The location of the hotel is incredible for those seeking to enjoy the clubs in Cancun. I highly recommend taking advantage ... of the "Regency Club," which has an open bar from 5-7pm as well as a wide selection of appetizers. The concierge in the Regency Club was extremely helpful for answering questions about nightlife, etc.... If you are single, I wouldn't recommend this hotel for anything other than location since it caters mostly to couples and groups of friends.

After reading all the reviews, I was concerned about the walking distance to the beach next door. I knew when booking there ... is no "private" beach but when we arrived we were stunned at how close the beach is. I've previously stayed in other resorts where I had to walk a lot farther to the beach than this hotel. All you have to is go to the front of the hotel and walk to your left and you're there. End of story. Hotel decor was beautiful. Very symmetrical and beautiful in pictures. I had purchased Club level access and since Club level was closed, we were provided with free continental breakfast. Normally, we're not big breakfast eaters but we couldn't help ourselves. The food was great. As others have stated, the location of this hotel is ideal. It is located in the heart of bars, shopping, etc. The view from the hotel is perfect, overlooking all the hotels in the Hotel Zone. Overall, great choice for the money! We will definitely stay here again!

I expected the hotel to be nice because it is the Hyatt but the pictures do not do it justice, it was so much nicer in person ... and it is well worth the price. The food was great though the menu at the grill was not that big. The breakfast buffet was great and the food was very reasonably priced. The hotel is in walking distance from everything, the clubs, The Hardrock Cafe, Rainforest Cafe, Senor Frogs, Starbucks, the list goes on and on. The hotel staff was great and very accomadating. I would definatley recommend this to a friend and would go back again.

We went on the jet ski/snorkeling excursion. The place we went is called BOBS and it was about five minutes from the hotel. It was great we got to jet ski and snorkel in the same trip for only $75.00. The trip lasted about 2 hours.

Hotel was not 5 star but enjoyable

JLo Aug 21, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

When we first checked into our hotel, the front desk agent told us the hotel was at 100% vacancy. We tried to get 3 rooms all ... on the same floor (2 rooms w/queen beds and one room with double beds) and he said he couldn't accommodate my request. Upon entering our room on the 7th floor, immediately the room felt sticky and humid. The AC wasn't on high, it smelled like cigarettes (an ashtray was sitting on our table), our bathroom sink and bathtub was not scrubbed and there was hair in the tub drain (eek!) and no trash can was provided. It felt as if someone was in the room for an hour and left. So i called cleaning service to get my tub cleaned and the hair removed and asked if coffee packets were provided (there was a coffee pot but no coffee) and they replied yes, coffee was provided for the first day of check in. The cleaning lady came up and took the hair out of the drain and that's it. No scrubbing or cleaning and didn't even leave coffee for me. By the way, there is no carpet in the room (which is fine with me.) I even looked at our shampoo and conditioner bottles and I swear it looked as if it was used and they just filled it up from economy sized bottle (the toiletry bottles has scratches on it some sign of "wear and tear.") Our bed felt "wet" from the humidity so i turned up the AC. I go to the 9th floor to check out our friend's room and boy was it better. The room smelled clean, AC was perfect, bathroom was clean, and their bed was not "wet." Immediately, I went to the front desk and got a different agent to request a room change. I told him I do not want a smoking floor and he said none of the rooms were "smoking" and I brought up the fact that my room had an ashtray in it. I specifically asked for the 9th floor and he was kind enough to send someone up to get our things to move two floors up. I was very happy about the room change better feng shui I guess you can say&. and a better view! The elevator is very hot, it literally blows hot air. Its strange and it didn't bother me all that much but I didn't expect this coming from a "5 STAR HOTEL." The hotel restaurant called The Grill is awesome. Great lunch options and for dinner, they have a delicious tasting seabass and the side of garlic potatoes were yummy. Lunch was about $10 a person, very comparable to pricing here in America. Dinner was more expensive of course but do not get the spaghetti (hey- I wanted to try it and I was sick of tacos, haha). Lasagna was better but just stick with a steak or seabass. Crème brulee was not good, the consistency was too pudding like and the sugar is not caramelized on the top. Other than that, the pool was awesome. Hyatt doesn't have a beach front (washed away from hurricane) so just walk next door and use their beach. I would have preferred to stay at the Westin but it was too far from the nightlife and food. Hyatt definitely has the upperhand as far as location. I enjoyed my stay, not what i expected from a 4 or 5 star hotel, but just lower your expectations and you're good! Don't forget to bring your own body soap, shampoo and conditioner.

Recreation/Attractions tip, Short Drive

If you want to do any cool activities and see what Cancun has to offer, ask for [...] the go-to-travel guy. He is downstairs at the hospitality desk (same floor as the gym and hotel gift store.) He floats from different hotels selling packages and tours and is such a sweet guy (genuine and very friendly.) We bought the Xplor Package (13 towers of ziplining, you get to drive ATV's thru the jungle/cave, underground cave rafting and swimming and included all you can eat buffet and refreshments all for $132 cash each person. He gives discounts if you pay cash. Transportation is provided and its about a hour and half bus ride. Any night life, food and entertainment is literally 5-10 min walking distance. They have Chili's, Carls Jr, McD's, Subway, Dominos, Rain Forrest Cafe in Cancun. Its very americanized! You dont need a car and you can negotiate taxi rides ($20 is the max we paid for 6 ppls and a 15 min ride to downtown CANCUN) or just take the bus. There will be little kids everywhere selling you bracelets/necklaces on the street, they even bother you when you are eating. Just say no thanks but try to support them. You'll see their mothers on the sidewalk with her other kids trying to make a living. Convert any money to pesos through Hyatt(front desk)to get the maximum value for your American dollar. They gave us $12.90 per one american dollar and most other places give $10 or $11. Also, Oxxo convenience store is like the 7-11 of Cancun, its everywhere and we went there everyday for snacks and drinks (right across the street from the hotel.)

Excellent view of the Caribbean. The staff was very friendly, and the buffet breakfast overlooking the water (although not ... included in the room fee) was definitely worth it. Lobby and restaurant music was very nice. The pool and bar were also very classy. I am not a complainer, but it was tough sleeping in the bed because I felt like I was sleeping in other people's sweat that had sunk into the bed and pillows. The rock-tile floor looked cool, and I understand its necessity down there, it was just a little rough on the feet in the morning. Thankfully, the hotel provides slippers with their bath robes.

In a supposedly first class hotel, you expect the best. However, we were supposed to receive 20% off of meals/drinks and 35% ... off the spa. It took us two days to get those discounts after several phone calls to management and several trips to the front desk. We received no discounts for almost two days. The room was very small and very old. For some reason, there were very few towels in the room. I can say the pools were great, but the female front desk staff could have been friendlier. Overall, I my experience did not live up to my expectations.

The hotel is ideally located near shopping, restaurants and nighlife. Many of the other hotels in the area require taxi ... rides or bus rides to see some of the area. All you need was within walking distance. Staff was friendly and the hotel was very clean. The only down side was construction which closed the nicer restaurant in the hotel. This was minor since there were a variety of places to eat in the area.

Everyplace takes US dollars, but take lots of $1's, $5's and $10's (USD). You will get peso's as change and we found it a pain to try and convert everywhere. Most things are very inexpensive. Tipping is big, so you'll need the smaller bills.

Quick tip

Great location

Maricela Jun 14, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The Hyatt Regency Hotel was nice! We had a great view from our hotel room and every morning we had free breakfast. The only ... thing that was missing was the beach this hotel didnt have one but we still had a good time. Cancun is the best place, you cant compare it to any where else(the blue beaches) a little expensive but we would drive into El Centro to eat at Rigos Tacos, La Barrilla, Los Arcos and Los del Pescado that food was great.

Quick tip

great pool, full breakfast buffet

frequent flier Jun 1, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

the hotel lobby/atrium is modern and pretty. it is humid b/c it is open/outdoors. the elevators are very hot due to the ... bright light bulbs. the rooms are very nice, comparable to the W hotel: fine linens, tile floors, flat screen TV, private balcony, safe, mini bar. the pool area is fabulous with water fountains, waterfalls and swim-up bar. there is also a children's pool, complete with an island fountain. the pool area has many very comfortable lounge chairs and cabanas pool-side and even some lounge chairs built into the pool. loved those! the location of the hotel is at "the point" near a lighthouse and walking distance to many restaurants and night clubs. within a 10 minute walk: hooter, dady o's, ice bar, carlos n charlie's, rainforest cafe, hard rock cafe and chili's. the flea market and senor frogs is about a 15 minute walk. there are many street vendors and tour salesman along the walk between the hotel and the mall. just say "no thanks" as you walk past them! definitely check out the dreams cancun hotel next door. they have a small beach, hammocks and a dolphin encounter program!

Nightlife tip, Short Walk

Concierge can help you with purchasing "all you can drink" passes to the hottest clubs in the hotel zone.

--travel junkie, Chicago, IL Nov 10, 2009

Entertainment tip, Short Drive

Go swim with the dolphins in the Interactive Aquarium in the Plaza de la Isla. Just hop on a bus for approximately 15 pesos for two people (approximately $1 USD) and ask the driver to take you to Plaza de La Isla. Wonderful and memorable time.

--DC, NY Oct 30, 2009

Recreation/Attractions tip, Short Drive

We went on the jet ski/snorkeling excursion. The place we went is called BOBS and it was about five minutes from the hotel. It was great we got to jet ski and snorkel in the same trip for only $75.00. The trip lasted about 2 hours.

--Caitlin, Naples, FL Sep 15, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

All shopping stores, clubs and restaurants are in walking distance.

--Mario, Los Angeles Aug 29, 2009

Dining tip, In Hotel

The hotel dining was excellent. We received 20% off for booking through Orbitz. The food and service were both excellent.

--JLo, Cancun, Mexico Aug 21, 2009

Money savers tip, In Hotel

If doing any activities, get them through the hotel. Less hassle and cheaper!

--SANDY, Los Angeles, CA Aug 18, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

Do not eat at La Mansion unless you want to spend a lot of money for not that great of food. Take a cab down to Lorenzillo's and check out some fine seafood for the same price.

--burkman, Chicago, IL Aug 4, 2009

Recreation/Attractions tip, Short Drive

There is inexpensive public transportation to get to the restaurants, but the main attractions you will need to rent a car or take a tour bus.

Ask the hotel staff to recommend a restaurant. Describe the type of food you are interested in. You will be given a good hint, and probably a coupon for a free drink at the restaurant if you order a meal.
