Phuket vacation

A surprise 20th anniversary gift saw me whisk my wife away to Thailand -- Phuket & Bangkok. The Hilton was quite nice, and I ... may have rated it higher, but it doesn't compare to the LeBua at Bangkok where we stayed next. (The service at the LeBua was nothing short of extraordinary.) The Hilton was quite nice -- the location was fantastic, the room excellent, the amenities fine, the breakfast very good, and basically we spent all our evenings just walking along the beach, shopping -- and taking tours. The staff were polite and friendly, but that was about it. To be clear, were I to go to Phuket again (and we probably will), I would definitely consider the Hilton -- it was perfectly fine, and I may well stay there again. (But if I go to Bangkok again, I will never stay anywhere but the Lebua.)

A little slice paradise

Incredibly clean well appointed rooms. Be sure to ask for a remodeled room. Beautiful property with lots of outdoor sitting ... areas with great views of the lagoons or mountain behind. The pools are surrounded by palm trees and lush vegetation. Great place to relax. Buffet breakfast breakfast was outstanding. The coffee shop is very good but a little pricey. Food at the hotel restaurants are a little pricey too. Location is great. Lots of shops, bars, and restaurants just a 10 minute walk on either side of the hotel along the beach road. Taxis and buses are also readily available along the beach road. Most tourist attractions, other beach towns, and the airport are easily accessible from this hotel. Be sure to negotiate with the taxi or tuk tuk drivers as prices vary widely. The beach in front of the hotel is beautiful and very clean however, the beach chairs and umbrellas have to be rented. Cost is 200 bhat for 2 chairs and an umbrella. Worth the price. The staff at this hotel put it over the top. They were all extremely friendly, polite, and attentive to all our needs. Their English may be limited but they make every attempt to be hospital. Overall, it's a great place to stay

The breakfast buffet is worth including in your hotel package. It's best to eat all other meals outside the hotel. The Old Phuket complex is a 10 minute walk north of the hotel along the beach road. It has a variety of options at great prices. Check out the massage parlor in this complex called Karma. An hour long fully body massage will run you around $8.

Trip to Phuket
Mason Shayan Aug 18, 2009
we were five friends, and we all reserved online. I was supposed to have the best room, because I paid the higher rate ... compared to my friends. However, one friend got a very good room, and the others got O.K. rooms. My room was far from everyone else, and it was very bad. Old room with old furniture and the smell was bad. I went back to the front desk and asked to change the room. They told me that I had to pay more. About $19 more per night. I agreed. Then they told me that they did not have any rooms available. Then, when I decided to leave the hotel, they changed my room. However, the other three friends were able to change to similar rooms as mine the next day without having to pay the extra charge. Not a good practice, specially for Hilton. Not happy at all. I was surprised even when I agreed to pay the extra charge, one the front desk staff told me that they did not have any room other than the first one! Another staff agreed to change my room. Also, my other three friends all got better rooms without having to pay extra fees. Why the first staff refused to change my room initially is beyond me!
