We had 2 beds, which is the key to space!! We had tons of room with each bed in a separate room plus a couch. It was ... totally worth the extra $50. I can see where noise would be a problem. My bed was on the inside courtyard side to be away from the noise. Luckily my roommate didn't mind the noise from the street. Keep that in mind. The metro is literally right outside the hotel which is why I picked this hotel in the first place, but we didn't even use it. My only problem was the staff, which I was warned about on this site. It was right!! The concierge was of NO help!! I was a bother to him. He finally realized I was not going away until I had my answers, so he made a phone call to find out information he should have known. Where is the Intrepid and how should I get there? easy enough. NO!! Took an act of congress. Make sure internet is included in your reservation as it is expensive if not.

Bad start, as I had booked the Manhattan Super Shuttle [...]. Don't do this! My plane was delayed and I had told them I would ... arrive at JFK at 11.45pm. When I called them on the courtesy phone they said I would have to wait at least an hour and a quarter. So I got a taxi.I found lots of places for breakfast - Au Bon Pain on 55th between 6 and 7, and a couple of doors down a lovely dive that looks low but served good food for about half the cost of the hotel cafe. You can get good take away food from WholeFoods at Colombus Circle (No12). The best meal I had is right at the other end of Manhattan, Otto's at 1 5th Avenue. A really gourmet pizza place, with unusual and delicious sides, quiet and not that expensive.

The lobby of this old hotel still looks very nice. It was often bustling with people, including several tour groups from ... France. The staff members I dealt with were very friendly and helpful. My room was furnished typically for a hotel of that age, but was a bit dreary, in part because it was sunless. It was difficult to get much heat in the bedroom and almost none in the bathroom. The shower head only operated at full volume, sending bullet pulses of water on me before I was able to soften the blow, and then only slightly. The water was hot, at least. The stopper in the sink was missing, and the toilet seat would not stand up without lifting the tank top and pushing it back. Still, I was only in the room during bedtime hours--and the price and location were right. Most helpful is the fact that a subway entrance is just a few steps from the 55th St. door.

My wife and I were traveling with our two adult children. We got adjoining rooms. They were ridiculously cramped, even by ... NYC standards. Housekeeping OK, but rooms felt like they were dirty with deep grit. Do NOT eat at coffee shop in hotel; I lived in NYC for 12 years and have NEVER been treated as rudely. There are many better options within a block or two. On the plus side, it was a decent value since it provided a place to sleep in an excellent location. Five stars for location.

Smith Girls Birthday Trip Jan 24, 2010
We came as part of my daughters birthday and wanted to experience New York and all its sights. The location of the hotel is ... amazing and while a busy road outside the noise in the hotel was fairly minimal. The rooms are basic but they are exactly what you need and always clean. The reception staff were always ready to help and the use of the free safety deposit box was essential. Tea and coffee making facilities would have been nice in the room but all in all it was a fantastic trip that we will never forget.

The New York pass which is available at Planet Hollywood which is about 7 blocks away in Times Square was fantastic. It gets you into all the major sites and tours and many others that you would possibly over look. The guide book and information that comes with it is also amazing. Another real benefit is to get an unlimited metro card for the subway. It allows you to travel as many times as you need in a day up to midnight and was essential in making sure we got to all the sites we wanted to see as it includes bus travel as well. Both are a definite must if you are on a budget.

I need to book a room to do the Half Marathon in Central park, give the fact that it was rated as a 3 star hotel I was very ... surprised. [...] I stayed in Room 48, I got the room for $150.00 (very good price) Large room, King size bed, Wide screen TV and Shower with a full Tub. Down the street from Times Square and about a block from Central Park. The Valet parking was a nice feature ($35). The room was very clean and all Towels and sheets were very clean. This hotel had a Coffee shop attached and also a Greek upscale restaurant. Very nice area with Radio City and Carnegie hall right next door, No complaints at all and I will absolutely be staying here again.

we were travelling to new york on a shopping holiday and found the hotel to be the ideal location for us. there is a subway ... directly outside the door which brings you downtown to times sq and macys and all the way down to century 21. this was our second stay in the wellington hotel and both times the service was very good. the deluxe double room was great value as it comprised of two separate rooms, linked by a small kitchen area. the only downfall with the hotel was the noise of the water pipes during the night, but this probably cannot be helped in an old hotel. i only experienced this during this visit as i stayed in a different wing on my last journey. overall excellent value and location.

Disapointed with the first two rooms we were given,as they were more like a hostel than hotel. After a heated discussion we ... were shown to the south side of the hotel 11th floor upwards where all the rooms have been refurbished this was fine. Feel they thought being English we wouldnt make a fuss. Manager explained first rooms were used for school parties?? Suites are not provided with crockery or cutlery so no tea in mornings!!!

* Take the subway- it is way cheaper than a taxi. A 7 day unlimited ride pass is only $27/person. The taxi from the airport to the hotel uis $30. It is well worth doing the subway and we felt safe there. * 2 hours prior to showtime the theatres on Broadway have a lottery. It is free. You can win 2 front row tickets to the show you want to see at a markdown price of $26.50 each (instead of $200/pp) We won West Side Story one night and Wicked the next. AMAZING! We saw two super shows in the front row for less than half of what it would have cost to see one in the cheapest seats.
