Although we made a reservation for 2 deluxe rooms, they reserved two standard rooms for us. We were surprised when we ... entered the rooms. We immediately called the front desk and moved us to the deluxe rooms. If we did not complain, they would have kept us in the standard rooms. The standard rooms are complete opposites of the deluxe rooms. We wished that they delivered what we had reserved the first time. The hotel's reputation is at stake here. Other than this, the hotel is great.

Pleasant
Matthew Nov 19, 2009
The MGM was pleasant - not amazing, but certainly good. The casino (unescapable in LV as you enter and leave the hotel) is ... festive without being overbearing. My room was comfortable - nothing splashy. The bed was very comfortable. Check-in was fast and painless even though there were a large number of guest. As with most of LV these days the food options were good but overpriced. Cheap room rates, obscene food costs - and I say that as a Manhattanite. The tram worked very well getting to and from the convention center and other hotels.

The worst hotel service ever!
Philip Nov 18, 2009
Checking-in at this hotel was my worst experience ever! They assigned a room to me where I specifically requested 2 queen ... beds after waiting in a long line forever. After checking, I went to check the room before I head down to the parking lot to get my family with our 2 infants. When I got to the room...somebody is still there...so I headed back to the lobby to report the situation (If you've been in MGM, the building is huge...walking back and forth was the last thing I want to do after my 8 hr drive with 2 infants). The frontdesk changed it to a different room.I headed upstairs again to check the room...when I got there it was a 1 king size bed. I was frustrated I called the front desk again and the person I spoke with told me they will change to the room next door and told me to wait there, somebody will be there shortly. I waited forever and nobody came. I called them again to find out if somebody will go there...but the person I spoke with was using the alibi that they have more than 500 rooms and that they can't just send somebody there right away I replied..."I dont care if you have thousands of rooms in this hotel, if the person I spoke with earlier told me that I have to wait forever here I would have decided to just go downstairs to pick up the new keys." So I went downstairs again for the third time and retrieved the new keys. I couldn't find any frontdesk so I decided to approach the manager who was chatting with his maybe new friends (where they all seem to be laughing and enjoying the day) in the lobby. He told me "You have to wait for me to finish with them" then he turned his back---so unprofessional!

Huge!
Tom Nov 18, 2009
This place is monsterously huge. Have good walking shoes and a cell phone for each of you in case you get separated. You'll ... be near the southern end of the Strip, so if you decide to venture outside the cavernous, and practically all-inclusive confines of the MGM Grand your best bet if you're going to a specific destination (assuming you don't have a car) is to take a cab, which you can get right outside the lobby door. Or, if where you're going is near a monorail station, take the monorail. If you plan on taking The Deuce, which is the least expensive, give yourself plenty of time. When you first get there plot out a route through the casino to the doors leading to Las Vegas Blvd. (The Strip). Chances are you'll be using these doors more since they're the closest to the Deuce stop and all the other action on the Strip. The room elevators are close to the lobby, which empties out onto Tropicana Ave., but it's a long way around to the Strip from there. We stayed in the Grand Tower and our room on the 16th floor overlooked the pool area (which seemed like a quarter mile away), and the north end of the airport runway. Not a Strip view, but the sunrises over the mountains were beautiful. Our room was very clean and the two queen size beds were soooo comfortable; each with four well-stuffed pillows, a body pillow and duvet cover. Our in-room safe had to be reset by hotel security, but worked fine after that. The pool area is fantastic! And you can use all the towels you want. Nice place, but like I say, have good walking shoes.

MGM Great hotel...Location, Location
Rightcoast girl Nov 16, 2009
We went there for our annniversary trip and it was wonderful. It's on the South end of the strip but still a great location - ... in the middle of everything. The restaurants can be expensive but if you gamble enough, much of your dining and drinks will be complimentary. We didn't see KA; however, if you choose to go this route, select the online hotel package as this will be a great way to get good seats and have a great fancy dinner. We did something very similar in the sister hotel - Bellagio. The casino floor can be a bit smokey when crowded but it wasn't unbearable. Don't forget to cash out your ticket as NV rules only make them good for 30 days.

Past its prime
Rick Nov 16, 2009
I am paraplegic and in a wheelchair. I reserved a "disabled access" room, but when I arrived I discovered a tub that I could ... not enter, and beds that were FAR too high up for me to transfer from my wheelchair. Essentially the only concession to a disabled guest was the hand rails along the wall, which were useless to me. After waiting a full hour for the desk to send up keys to another room, we transferred to a room with a roll-in shower. Still the beds were so high that I had to request a rollaway bed. They obviously have no concept, or care, about the true needs of a handicapped traveler. The staff was surly and though they smiled politely, they were completely unhelpful until I became insistent. It would be NO effort for them to provide truly acessible rooms with lower beds, but they have not bothered. It made the whole visit an ordeal for me. They are wide open for a lawsuit from any disabled traveler so inclined. MGM Grand should be ashamed.

AJ Nov 15, 2009
Check in tried very hard to accommodate us as to room location - view of the strip - beds are very comfortable - all hotel ... staff including housekeeping are very friendly and helpful. It was nice to have the walkway from the hotel over to New York New York hotel or exit to the street. It was very convenient to have the Monorail start (and end) inside at MGM Grand. After a long day of walking around it was great to have the Monorail stop inside the hotel versus walking past two or more other hotels on the strip to get to the Monorail inside another stop point area. Staff including bartenders are very grateful for tips left for them....they seem to remember.... and remember too they are hurting with the economy. The higher end restaurants in the hotel were very expensive even with their sampler menu for the quantity received although quality was good. Ate mostly at Wolfgang Puck Bistro.

The very small deli near the back of the hotel is open either all nite or very late into the nite so if you want a yougurt or bagel or a bowl of excellent soup or a sandwich or salad to take up to your room or eat there it's great.....just s little something to hold you over or make it your dinner. The prices are reasonable too for Las Vegas.
