The King George Hotel - Union Square offers the perfect San Francisco location. Our hotel shares sidewalks with fine dining, world class shopping, theatre, Moscone Convention Center, Convention Hotels and San Francisco's world famous cable car line to Fisherman's Wharf. You will immediately notice our comfort and warmth. A tradition of charm and personal service have been our hallmark since we first opened our doors in 1914. Our amenities are distinctly up-to-date, including complimentary wireless internet access, but our hospitality and our rates are wonderfully old-fashioned. In the heart of downtown the King George Hotel is just three blocks from the Powell Street BART station, which now services both Oakland (OAK) and San Francisco (SFO) International Airports. We look forward to making the King George Hotel your home away from home while you are a guest in San Francisco.

Six Nights of Comfort in a Treasure
WeatherOnMars Dec 19, 2009
I stayed at this hotel for six nights during a business trip to San Francisco. The room was small, but the bathroom was ... spacious. The closet was ample as well. The room was clean and pleasant. The hotel is centrally located near Powell St. BART, Moscone Center, and many restaurants of varying price and excellent quality. This is downtown San Francisco. There are panhandlers. There is noise at night. But the hotel is reasonably well-insulated, and I slept very pleasantly. The hotel staff was helpful, especially in dealing with the separate travel arrangements of myself and the colleague with whom I was staying. I booked early and got a nice deal, but I've paid a little less for much worse quality. I don't know what the bar and breakfast room are like.

FANTASTIC HOTEL
gup Nov 16, 2009
This is just a fantastic hotel! From the minute we walked in we were treated so well. Very nice lobby, very friendly, baby ... crib for the room was no prob, hot towels delivered to the room, roomservice reasonably priced and quick, clean, comfortable room, very quaint SF style hotel. Could not be happier with this place. We paid $69 a night and got a great deal, but honestly I would have been ok paying much more than that for the service we got. Concierge is great, helped with tourist info, airport rides, etc. All of this and a great location, safe, good area, close to union square and cable car pickups.

Reserved a queen size bed, found the room to be extremely small for my liking, called the front desk and they gladly moved me ... to a double full no questions asked and didnt charge me extra. My room was facing the street via an alley so it was alittle noisy during party hours.Room was clean,tv's are new, safe in the room, small quiet bar in the back of the hotel. its a good value and in a great location, will stay there again. :)

Fabulous location
Traditional Traveler Oct 31, 2009
This hotel is located within a half block of many expensive hotels - JW Marriott, The Handlery, Hotel Nikko - as well as 2 ... blocks from the MUNI, Bart and the cable car turnaround. Rooms are small but have everything one needs. You need to be creative to plug in your laptop and phone charger at the same time. Free wifi in guest room but if you forgot your laptop you will have to pay to use the computers in the lobby. Coffee maker in room and coffee and tea in lobby in the mornings.

If you come by car the hotel charges $29 per night. One half block in either direction you can park in a garage for $21.60/night.

Central location, excellent staff
gay couple Oct 20, 2009
The hotel is centrally located near Union Square; next to the theatres and a bike rental shop! The rooms are typical for a ... San Fran hotel and were adequate for our needs. The bed was quite comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helped us with bag storage and other needs. The only complaint I have is not with the hotel but the location... though it's central to stores and transportation, there is relatively little reason to stay in this area if you want to frequent the city's cafes, restaurants and night life. It's a fairly starbucks and Macy's sort of area.

Like I was in Europe.
teacher Oct 13, 2009
The hotel reminded me of the hotels I've stayed in in Europe. The halls seem like a dormitory or apt. The rooms are very ... cute and decorative, but very small compared to the average American room. The staff was friendly, except had a little problem with them recording our late check out request. The hotel grew on us and became home. It was conveniently close to the Cable Car line and to many 24 hour restaurants. I probably would not stay there again, but it was a nice memory.

Doc Sep 28, 2009
I was supposed to have a king bed with a nonsmoking room. They put me in a room with two full size beds with plenty of extra ... ash trays. I woke up several times to the smell of tobacco smoke and I don't smoke. There was no airconditioning in my room. It was close to Union square so sirens all night long. Across street from parking garage. Would not stay there again, nor would I recommend it. There were many beggars just outside the hotel as well.

Great San Francisco Character!
New Traveler Sep 11, 2009
The room and bathroom were a little on the small size but the character of the hotel makes up for all of that! There is no ... a/c in this hotel which I was little nervous about and I don't know if that's normal or not but the weather was cool enough that I actually pulled out an extra blanket to keep me warm. Because of the location, it would have been noisy if we had had to open to window to keep cool. The staff here were wonderful, too! So helpful and proper.

Be sure to use the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) when coming in from San Francisco airport to save since from what I understand cabs can be really expensive. Also there are a bunch of diners (including Lori's nextdoor) that are in the area and Walgreens where you can pick up stuff you need. Probably the best place to pick up food/snacks would be if you came across a Luckies grocery store (at Fulton & Masonic, off Route 5 bus) or something else. Also pick up a MUNI multi-day pass if you intend on using the public transportation (bus, streetcars, cable cars, subway) a lot over multiple days. We used a 3-day pass for $18. One place these can be bought is at the visitor's center at the powell street station. I think one-ways on most of the public transit options are $2 to $5 and note BART is separate from MUNI (San Fran Municipal Trans Agency).
