The Manager has no control of his or her hotel. kids running up and down the hall. Pool area is available for kids till ... midnight . No down time for adults was never able to enjoy the pool nor at ALL. kids as young as 6 in the sauna room. Worst Holiday inn I have stayed at . One of these days something will happen in that pool. No pool rule and parent surpervision. The night hotel manager told me "its too bad" deal with it. I was shock. I will never stay at a holiday Inn and if you are traveling for a nice peaceful vacation stay at a place that kids go to bed at 10 and enjoy the stay. Stay at MOTEL 6 instead.

Great location and price
LFSD Jul 9, 2009
The rooms are extremely comfortable! The sheets were soft and layered with a thin down comforter. Buffet breakfast was great ... as well (omelet bar was yummy!). They have an all you can eat prime rib dinner on Friday nights (which I missed out on). The hotel is next to a large park which is great for walking.

We stayed at Rapid City to visit Mt. Rushmore, Custer, Crazy Horse & the Badlands. I wanted a location that was comfortable and somewhat central. It was perfect! Airport is 15 min. from hotel. The hotel is in perfect proximity of the main freeways that took us to the various scenic sites. It only took us 30 minutes to Rushmore, Crazy Horse was in perfect proximity from Rushmore and we visited Custer after Crazy Horse. After Custer, we took the US16A to US79 north to get back to Rapid City (per the GPS). Big mistake. You're better off going back on the US16 past Crazy Horse & Mt. Rushmore heading back to Rapid City. The roads are more of a straight away. Badlands is only a 60 minute drive from Rapid City. A lot of quick eateries are along North St (go north on 5th Street where the hotel is located, make a right on North St) or if you continue on along 5th St, which becomes N Haines St, there are eateries along there as well.

Tired hotel, but close to airport

Furniture was old and tired. Hair dryer didn't work and was not replaced, even after being reported to desk. Close to the ... festival being held in the park. Holiday Inn Express was not far away -- should have stayed there instead.

7 of 10 hotel, 8 of 10 downtown location
abc_123 Jul 3, 2009
Location-next to a nice large park, very easy to find everything from it. Traffic around hotel was good. About 1/2 mile walk ... to downtown, but across a large street so we drove. At dinner I was always looking at the 2 downtown hotels (on Main Street) thinking if there I could have skipped driving and had a couple of drinks with dinner. Staff-friendly and helpful, very pleasant. Breakfast-buffet was scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, french toast, toast, but not very good. Should have got the free breakfast item instead. Charged extra for coffee and orange juice. Room-clean, quiet, comfortable beds, no strong smells. Great water pressure in shower on 7th floor !! Amenities-no fridge or microwave. We like to get some fruits and vegetables from the supermarket for picnics or breaks from heavy restaurant food; or, sometimes eat the leftovers from a big dinner for lunch; or, keep cool drinks in the room. Usually standard in other hotels we've stayed at. We got by,but fridge/microw would have been nice. Summary-would stay there again, especially if hotel threw in some perks, but would probably give the Main Street hotels a chance if not.
Traveler type: Family
Main Street has the 4-5 big restaurants, but if you want something lighter for lunch, Alternative Fuel (on Main) had a salad with some fresh vegetables. Other cafes probably do too. If not, Family Thrift Center supermarket is right on the corner, just one left turn to get back to hotel. Go a few blocks past the Main Street area then there is the usual fast food.

Very comfortable place to stay
Rhonda Jun 7, 2008
The Holiday Inn in Rapid City was a very comfortable and enjoyable hotel. Our room met all of our expectations and we had a ... very pleasant stay. The staff were excellent!! The only change I would make would be the coffee maker, as it only made one cup at a time and seemed rather pointless. We enjoyed spending time in the restaurant chatting with the waiters/waitresses and also enjoyed spending time in the lounge, meeting other hotel guests from all over America.

The Journey Museum is just up the street, which we found to be very enjoyable and very educational.

Holiday Inn - Rushmore Plaza
Inger Aug 1, 2007
I stayed at the Holiday Inn Rapid City-Rushmore plaza for 4 nights. The room was nicely decorated and very clean. ... Housekeeping did a great job in the room. I was a bit put off by the lobby decor - hundreds of dusty plastic plants. Seems like they could figure out something less phony. I was also irritated that there was no option to NOT have the sheets changed daily (to save on laundry energy usage), and no place to recycle newspapers or bottles that accumulate during a vacation.
Traveler type: Family
This hotel was a short drive or walk to the downtown area, where there were numerous good restaurants in a range of prices, and a lot of shops to browse. Loved the statues of presidents on the street corners - very educational.

Joy Jul 6, 2007
We enjoyed staying here because the rooms were very comfortable. Kids eat breakfast for free, which made breakfast easy for ... us. The pool was fun for the kids, too. One of our rooms was a suite. This allowed for us to have real family time one evening when we didnt feel like eating out at a restaurant. We were able to order pizza and watch a movie just like we were at home! The location is a perfect jumping off point for Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower, Custer State Park and the Badlands. There were plenty of restaurants close by as well.

There were two restaurants that the staff at the Holiday Inn recomended that were very tasty options - The Imperial was an excellent option for Asian cusine and there was a Mexican restaurant near by that was very authentic!
