Unbeatable location-overall great hotel
Picky Traveler Sep 29, 2009
The staff was very friendly. The location is amazing - came in through Union Station hopped the red line and it took us ... directly to the hotel property. Also, only 2 blocks from the National Zoo (a don't miss stop). Having the red line virtually on the property is a plus because you can get to everything in DC via the metro. The pool was a nice place to rest and relax after a busy day of walking around the city. There is no hot tub, but the pool is heated. The gym rivals that of other hotels! Spotless & so many machines for both weights & cardio. It is the largest hotel in DC, but you wouldn't know it because they blended the additions into the natural architect. The grounds were beautiful. Only downfall is that the food is pricey ($50 for 2 @ breakfast). You can go out to eat at a million restaurants around the city which we did most nights. We also found it to be a bit loud as the room doors don't seem to offer much in the way of soundproofing, but this could be overcome by asking for a room near the end of the hall.
Traveler type: Family
The red line metro is located at the bottom of the property which makes getting around DC a breeze. No need to wait for buses, cabs, or to rent a car. Just buy a metro pass and add about $10 - $20 to it (per person) depending on your length of stay and you can get to just about anywhere in DC. The Metro Center station is only 3 stops down and that lets you pick up other lines without paying again.

Great place to stay!

Beautiful hotel, clean room, located in a great part of DC- you could walk out the door and around the corner to great ... restaurants from McD's on up- very convenient to downtown- did hear a little hall noise in the middle of the night - Woodley's Market in the lobby was very $$$$$, luckily we could walk a few minutes and hit a market on CT Ave. Quite impressed overall. Very affordable for the location, we expected a lesser hotel but were quite impressed! Plan on coming back for a longer stay here.

Very easy to get to (block away from a metro station) and very clean rooms. Friendly staff and rooms had everything, ... including a coffee maker and packs of coffee. Seemed to be in a good part of the city - family friendly, especially with the zoo near by. Would definitely stay here again.

All Around Great Stay
momrumphius Aug 19, 2009
This is a great location steps from a Metro stop. This is our 2nd stay here and the staff is always helpful and courteous. ... The outdoor pool is large and secluded. You would never know you were in the middle of the city. Rooms are clean and modern with Bath and Body Works products supplied. We did not have a view of the city , so one might want to request this but as we were barely in the room it didn't matter to us. We enjoyed the ample breakfast buffet included in our package that suppled handmade waffles and omelets, as well as creamy oatmeal, fresh fruit and a huge sampling of dried cereal and fresh pastries and breads. The Zoo is 0.5 miles up Ct. Ave. There is internet access in the lobby.

If you do not really need a car, don't bring rent one in Washington...the Metro is clean, safe and easy to understand. This Marriot is so close to a stop you will end up leaving your car in the garage and paying $32/day to not use it.

Lovely Hotel & surrounding area!

My husband and I were the typical tourist in DC. We loved the Metro so close to the hotel and were very pleased with the ... neighborhood of the hotel's location. We dined at the resturants and shopped the nearby markets. We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again!!!

Pay a lot, get very little

There's just so much wrong with this hotel. Check-in was good, but on arrival in the room I found a clearly unvacuumed carpet ... and a spray bottle of cleaner that had been left by the maid. Called down to ask for someone to come up and vacuum, was told someone would be up "right away", which was over a half-hour. On other days, the carpet clearly wasn't touched. The one meal I ate in the restaurant was awful. I had a dinner buffet during which the waitress never came to the table without being asked. The food was average, and they kept running out of items, which shouldn't be an issue when the number of dishes is as limited as this buffet features. I was there for a convention, the ballrooms and meeting rooms were always hot, not enjoyable in the summer. I would guess they keep their "AC" at 78 or so. Complaints were constant, but the hotel apparently didn't care. The only reason I rate the hotel as high as 2 stars are from the nice (but small) rooms and the attractive public spaces. Make no mistake, this is NOT a desirable hotel, stay somewhere else!

Avoid the hotel restaurants with overpriced, bland food and bad service. Instead, take a short walk across the street for all kinds of food.

Very Large Hotel, Need Comfortable Shoes
k2 Jul 19, 2009
I've stayed at this hotel before. This time, my room was at the furthest point from the conference center, so lots of walking ... was involved. My room was large and comfortable. The outside noise due to trains and traffic was constant, but didn't hinder sleeping. Staff was generally friendly and helpful -- when I couldn't find a vending machine that worked and/or had water, staff helped me out. Likewise, room service was prompt and friendly.
Traveler type: Business
There is a small shopping area across the street from the hotel -- load up on bottled water there as it's scarce during a large conference.

Orbitz "kids eat free" special was confusing to both restaurant servers and check-out staff. Print the details, save your receipts, and watch your bill for innappropriate meal charges! Some dining options were unavailable during our stay.
