Overall our stay at the Fairmont was great. We found the location very easily off the freeway, even though we were a little ... confused with the half hotel / half business park parking lot. I think the $28 dollar parking fee is ridiculous and was probably my LEAST favorite part about our stay, you don't even pay that fee in Vegas or Hawaii! Our room was very nice, spacious and clean. The only issue we had was the a/c didn't seem to cut it, but having the option of an open window was nice. There was a little bit of noise from the nearby airport, but nothing we aren't used to being from Los Angeles. We enjoyed the pool & spa area very much. Very spacious, great cabanas, and a very large hot tub. Towels and drinking water were always stocked and available. We decided to have dinner in the hotel, and were a little saddened that service was only being conducted in the lounge area (I'm guessing due to the slow economy). Our server was attentive and sweet, and my food was delicious. Late check-out is at 1:00 which fit perfectly into our Sunday football watching ;-) Although, even if you had be out of the room sooner, the bar and lounge area had all the games on one of their many TVs. My favorites about this hotel were the hot tub, our room's bathroom and bedding/robes, available bar & restaurant and peaceful stay.

I am not sure if I would still there again. I had worker laugh at me when checking in, after I asked him a question I thought ... that was very rude and was not happy about that, the mini refrigerator was broken and for breakfast I had a hair in my food. I thought the room was very nice, and my girlfriend loved the big bath room. I'll give them a 3 stars rating.

I thought the valet parking was very unnecessary, it usually took too long to get my car that sat a few yards away from the ... front door of the hotel. Coming in late at night, I had to wait too long for a valet to finally show up and take my car. I would have preferred to park myself instead of paying $30 a day. I went to this hotel for the non-chlorinated pool. I put a lot of miles in driving on these business trips in and a good swim is something I look forward to. When I checked in I was informed that the pool was closed but would reopen the next day. It did not reopen for the entire time I was there. They offered to take me to a nearby hotel to swim, but I was on a tight schedule and didn't have time to waste going back and forth. Plus, I didn't want to swim in a chemical-ridden pool. Disappointed that the pool was advertised and not available. Had I known, I would've stayed at the beach with an ocean view.

For a quick 6 hours after Disneyland, this was an ideally close location to the SNA airport. At midnight we were a bit tired ... trying to find the parking lot, when everything was valet parking. Convenient to airport and destination. After family gathering in Dana Point, we visited the Queen Mary in Long Bearch, 30 ... minutes to the morth. We did not eat at hotel. What I did not like was the cost of parking at the hotel - $28 per day. I was not advised of that cost by [...] Our beds were great, though two queens rather than doubles would have been better. Weekend getaway
mjrchaos Oct 7, 2009
Booked this the same night for a weekend getaway with the wife before the birth of our first child. The room (667) was nice, ... but seemed to be the type that you could lock off with the adjoining room. The in-room cooler (as opposed to a mini-fridge) had seen better days and didn't work. Our neighbor's nightly activities were a bit too noisy and could be heard through the walls. The front desk concierge wasn't helpful when I asked for casual dining suggestions. Luckily this place is centrally located to several points of interest and I used my GPS to find my way. Considering the room rates and required valet parking, I expected a bit better service overall. I imagine there are comparable hotels for less money available in this area.

Luxury Hotel hit by bad economy
Young single female traveler Oct 5, 2009
The Fairmont is a beautiful hotel for the price of $95 a night. However, the discounted rate comes with as many fees as ... possible for the hotel to make back that discount. Park is $28 a night. Internet service $14 a day. Don't even look at the in-room dining menu. Movies in your hotel - $15.99 - more than it costs to go to the movies in Orange County (which is already a ridiculous $12). I could not enjoy the hotel as I was nickel and dimed to death. Perfect example, when entering the lobby I saw what appeared to be a breakfast buffet. Excited I went up and grabbed a roll. No sooner had I grabbed food than I was informed, despite their being no signs, that the breakfast buffet cost $24 a person and I would have to be charged for it. Having not eaten a bite I gave the woman the roll back. She insisted I had to be charged for it. I told her I had not eaten bite of it, and left immediately so she couldn't charge me $24 for a single breakfast roll.

I'm so glad I used Orbitz, I got a really good deal on the room and we really liked the hotel. Its actually nicer than the ... pictures show and the pictures are nice. The rooms are nice, pretty standard in size. The location was convenient and there is a Jamba Juic and Starbucks just across the street. The best part of the hotel is the pool, its really nice for a couple or if you are travelling with kids. I'd stay here again.

The Fairmont Newport Beach is great
007 Sep 21, 2009
Although the Fairmont is clearly a first class hotel, there are a few deficiencies: They are short on room service personnel ... which results in half-eaten meals left on trays in the hallways for hours. The exercise room is too packed with equipment and not well ventillated. All the treadmills lack workable controls. In all other respects, the hotel met or exceeded our expectations.

Disappointing
Orbitz Sep 8, 2009
I have stayed at Fairmont Hotels in different cities before and we belong to Fairmont President's Club. Fairmont Newport ... Beach fell short of my expectations of a Fairmont Hotel and of a 4-star hotel. I had requested for a non-smoking room and when I arrived at the hotel, I was told that that would be impossible. I had to talk to the manager who finally got me a non-smoking room. The room was clean and house-cleaning did a good job. There were things missing in the room that I came to expect from a Fairmont hotel. I had no hair dryer in the room and I really didn't have time to call and wait for one to arrive. There was no bar or coffee/tea in the room, just a bottle of water. I have stayed in hotels with less than 3 stars that have all those things. Valet parking was expensive and not really a first-class service for the price I paid. Overall, I was extremely disappointed and will not be staying there again.

$7 for a bottle of water explains it all
Honeymooner Aug 31, 2009
This hotel was nice, yes ~ that's for sure. But they nickle & dime you for everything. 28$ a day to park was our first bit of ... shock. $7 for water in the hotel. We got sick and asked for soup. $9 for a thimble-sized bowl of soup and $15 (+ tip) to take it to your room. Wifi is free at Motel 6 but this five star swanky joint charges you. If you've got money to burn then this place is for you. It's lovely but bring a fat wallet and be prepared to leave with it skinny.
