Great Getaway and a Spectacular Hotel
Ed and Michele - Wanderlusters Dec 18, 2009
Check-in was a little slow (10 minutes)due to a computer problem that was preventing the staff from printing guest names on ... their room card keys, but the front desk manager was super friendly and for our inconvenience with the delayed check in, he upgraded us to a water view room on the 16th Floor in the West Tower with a nice balcony floor that overlooked the Dolphin Lagoon, and also had a great vist of the harbor and ocean. It was great watching the dolphins playing in the mornings as their trainers fed and got them ready for their hotel guest visitors. The aquariums and lagoons at this hotel are nothing less than spectacular. We probably spent a full day going around and looking at all of them and the millions of fish they host. The main lobby is one of the prettiest of any luxury hotel we've ever stayed at. At the back on the lower deck of the main lobby are about eight to ten monster windows (12' x 16') that peer out into the main aquarium. You could spend hours just watching all the beautiful schools of fish, rays, sharks, etc. It is surreal looking at night when the blue light comes through the glass. We don't eat large breakfasts or lunches, so just picked up yogurt, coffee and muffins at the main lobby bar each morning, and ate sandwich wraps out by the pool each afternoon. We had one dinner at a sister property called The Dune (located at the Ocean Club Resort), which is located about a mile east of the hotel and it was fabulous. We were taken there by limo and got a table right on the beach and the food was top shelf. Another night we ate at the Bimini Bar and Grill over in the Marina village that was a lot more casual and less expensive, but also had good food. On our last night there we ate a Cafe Martinique, a French restaurant also in the Marina Village that was also a five star meal with superb food, beautiful atmosphere and unbelievably good service (5 waiters). I would recommend booking your dinner reservations as soon as you check in to the hotel at the concierge desk. The staff at the concierge desk are super friendly and can make reservations at any of the 15-20 restaurants the hotel offers, or any of the other activities like the Dolphin Lagoon. We found all of the hotel staff and even the taxi drivers who took us back and forth to the airport to be super friendly and genuinely concerned that we were having a good time. They never panhandled us for a tip, and always appreciated it when we provided one. The restaurants and bars include a 15% service charge (tip) in their bills but we also gave a few percent more and the wait staff loved us for it.

If you are celebrating a special occassion with your spouse or significant other, would highly recommend the Dune Restaurant at the Ocean Reef resort about a mile away. If you take the limo, you can negotiate the price with the driver (who was very friendly) or take a cab for about $10. This resort and restaurant are six star caliber. If you want to stay on the main property, then go to Cafe Martinique in the Marina Village. It's also a beautiful restaurant with great food and service.

Beautiful Hotel, Horrible Service/People
World Traveler Dec 18, 2009
We stayed at the Atlantis Royal Towers for 4 nights and 5 days: It is sad that such a beautiful hotel with awesome murals ... and artwork can be run so poorly and has outright rude, lazy and incompetent staff. The hotel could have been great but because of the horrible staff, it is my worse vacation experience ever (and I have been to many places, good and bad)! Positives: 1. Stunningly beautiful hotel grounds 2. Plenty of unique water activities 3. Well run tennis center with great staff (the only ones that were any good). 4. Fun dolphin interaction experience - although the staff was only so-so. The dolphins were great! Negatives: 1. EXTREMELY rude and lazy hotel staff who ignore you and give you attitude when you ask them any questions or even try to buy something from their shops. 2. Very poorly run hotel - did not do a good job advertising activities, delivered someone elses luggage to our room on the first day and did not even apologize. 3. Very expensive food and shopping - so expensive that it is at the level of in your face rip off! A regular sandwich at Plato's is $10 (not even good), a regular hotdog is $8 and burger is $12-14, slice of pizza is $7-10. That is their cheapest food! Bottle of water is $5!!! For good resturants expect to pay $50-70 per person, lunch buffet is $50 per person. For those prices you would expect great food but all of it was very plain. Shopping is 2-3x the price you would pay in Europe or Disneyworld for the same made in China stuff! It literally ruins your mood to shop. For your photos at Dolphin Cay for the Dolpin interaction (you are not allowed to take your own pictures) the cheapest package was $150!!! 4. Poor service - room maid did not even come clean our room on our third day. No complimentary shuttle bus to to/from the airport or downtown. 5. Hotel makes many mistakes- including charging use for 4 bottles of alcohol from the minibar $7-9 each when we never even touched or open the minibar - when confronted, the front desk got defensive and initially refused to remove the charges until I got very upset and had to raise my voice. 6. Room quality mediocre - the room remote did not work well and the TV would stop working at times, the balcony door was extremely difficult to unlatch and when I finally opened it, the door will no longer lock, had to call room service who eventually relocked it but did not fix the balcony door, so I NEVER was able to use my balcony. Again, no apology! 7. Lazy staff - never goes out of there way to help you, look bored and unattentive, some are even hostile. Waterpark opens at 10am but closes by 4:30pm! I was stunned by their short hours of operation. The Night club was only open on Thursdays through Sunday, comedy club open only on a few days, and restuarants will be closed on certain day without warning. 8. Constantly nick and dimes you - it actually cost $5 to rent a small locker to put your clothes for the waterpark! Cost $15 per day to use the fitness center, $15 per day for in room internet access. 9. Mediocre beaches - the beaches of Cozumel,Cancun and even Cabo were more beautiful and much more affordible and have much more friendly people. 10. Manditory 15% grautity on all food and service items. I would not mind paying it if the "service" was not so offensive. I guess this is the only way the can get any tips, clearly they have no incentive to work hard and please the guests. Overall, any self respecting person would not go here. I wish I had known how horrible the people and serivce here was, because I would have taken my money elsewhere. The rudeness of the staff was not confined to the hotel, they were just the same when we went to Downtown Nassau at Bay street. We waited at a Chinese resturant run by a Bahimian owner for 5-10 minutes (they were not extremely busy) and were still not seated and were completely ignored by the staff even when I tried to talk to one. I hate to generalize, but in our experience, the Bahi...

Cnile Jr Dec 13, 2009
Bring a lot of money. Nothing at Atlantis is inexpensive. The food is way over priced and not that good. The drinks run over ... $10 a piece. They charge for internet too. $25 a day. Etc, Etc. We were very disappointed. Smoke everywhere you go, on the beach, in the hotel. They should designate smoking areas. Do not drink from the room glasses. Our chambermaid just wiped them out with what I assume was our dirty towels. So, use the paper cups only. The beaches are loaded with trash too. All in all, it was not worth it. Find another place to stay. Trust me. If you have kids, this place will bankrupt you.

Rooms spotless and beautiful, views spectacular, staff friendly, Pools and attractions GREAT! Especially loved lazy river ... and rapids with slides. Loved swimming with dolphins. Swam in different pool and beach every day. Only issue was being there in off season, half the restaurants were closed. We would eat at a restaurant one day and love it, return the next day and it would be closed. Each day they print a list of which restaurants that open that day and the list is different every day.

Our Atlantis vacation was amazing! Upon arrival, we were upgraded to the West Tower, 19th floor facing the water. It was ... centrally located to everything!! The entire staff was very friendly and helpful at all times. Our 7-day stay hardly seemed adequate to experience all the amenities: Aquaadventure, the Dig, Casino, Comedy Club, the theatre, beach, gardens and so much more. We even got to attend the red carpet premier of Ugly Betty.

At Atlantis there is a deli called Murrays deli. It is actually a casual, upbeat, sit down restaraunt that serves the best entrees. The prices are $15.00 and up per entree but the portions are huge! The hotel is in a beautiful location and the pools are great for kids, especially the water slides. The cab ride from the ... airport was $60!!! The staff were helpful, but not overly friendly. Rooms were clean and beds very comfortable. However, for the price it costs to stay there, I was extremely disappointed in the selection, quality, and cost of food & beverage. Water was very expensive ($4-$5 per bottle). We had the casual dining plan and the food was average at best and the buffet was the same every day. I've stayed at less expensive all-inclusive resorts and have had better food and service.

Staff unfriendly with some exceptions. Hotel staff had no idea what to do with orbitz vouchers. No personal service. ... Treated like cattle. Move them in, move them out. For the money paid, I would of expected better service. The Royal Towers could be a great facility but the service was lack luster. Majestic tours not very friendly. The dinner cruise was a total waste of time and money. Burger King would of been a better choice. Was not happy being picked up for Airport return 3 1/2 prior to flight. No need for that. Sitting at airport for 2 1/2 is not my idea of how to end a vacation. If you are looking for a place to relax and getaway for a quiet time this is not it. If you are looking for Disney World in the Caribbean, where everything cost three times as much as it should, this is the place for you. Even with a dining plan the meals just didn't come close to what we expected on a vacation. For that kind of money the quality and service should be better. Of the three restaurants we dined at, Carmines, Bimini Road and Chop Stix, the only one that was appealing and the food of value was Carmines. They treated us nicely. Very commercialized vacation.

I was very disappointed with the royal towers room. There was a light out which needed to be replaced during my stay. There ... were also no robes or iron which i realized when I went to go use them so I needed to call to have them brought to the room. CA Traveler Aug 19, 2009
Booking the room through a site like Orbitz lead to the assignment of a terrible location in the towers. When we inquired ... about getting off the second floor so that we could see something besides a Palm Tree, the staff informed us that booking through a travel site leads to being assigned the worst rooms. The hotel itself is huge and very crowded. This is made even worse on the days the cruise ships are in port. The hotel sells use of the facilities to the passengers and the place becomes so crowded it is hard to find room by the pools or use the water attractions because of the size of the crowd. It is extremely expensive and we joked the whole time that if they could sell the air for you to breath they would. All the negative above being said, the hotel is incredible and the water theme park is very fun. We had a blast even though we came home with no money.

At Atlantis there is a deli called Murrays deli. It is actually a casual, upbeat, sit down restaraunt that serves the best entrees. The prices are $15.00 and up per entree but the portions are huge! My friend and I split every meal so we could easliy afford and appetizer and desert! It's affordable and delicious.

If you are bringing children, consider the dining plan to save money or plan to fix sandwiches, snacks etc. You can have a refrigerator put in your room.

Eat outside of the hotel and buy your own bottled water to keep in room.

Must get dining plan

Most of the dining was upscale. We didn't make a reservation and our choices were very limited. Strongly suggest making a reservation for dinner!

Eat at poolside grills and order value menu (cheeseburger, drink, and fries for $8). Bargain at this hotel and food is good!

Make sure to reserve dinners 1-2 weeks in advance of your trip, since places are crowded for normal times. Also, be prepared for really expensive prices - even on basic food and beverage items. Wine is especially expensive for the bottle selections you get. SO, we went off property and found a nice bottle for under $10 that the resort was serving for nearly $10 a glass! Mixed drinks are fine, and beer is reasonable.

If you have kids, take them to eat at Shark Bites by the main pool. They have value meals for $8-$10 which includes fries and a soda. Tell them they are for kids and you will get a reusable plastic shark cup. It comes with unlimited refills so we rinsed it out every night and brought it back to the pool every day and had free sodas all day long. That will save you a ton. I also recommend that you make dinner reservations BEFORE you leave for your vacation. We tried to make Carmines reservations 3 weeks in advance and I was told they were closed on Sunday and Monday, and the only time I could get on the other days was 6 or 9. When I got to the hotel, they told me they opened the restaurant on Sunday and Monday, but it was already booked. After explaining my situation and speaking with a manager, we did get a couple nights at Carmines. But the dinner reservaton situation is definitely a downfall. The steakhouse was good, but not great and was very expensive.

We just wanted to experience the Atlantis Pleasure Island experience and we did!

Take the water ferry into nassau to explore the town a little. Some good shopping and fun restaurants. Fun to explore outside the resort for one day. However, the resort leaves you needing nothing.

The pool facilities were excellent.
