Something for everyone
The Don Jul 24, 2009
This hotel has a lot going for it. Rooms have sliding door to private balconys, recent lobby lounge addition is big and has ... Adirondack rustic charm comfortable seating and local Saranac Pale Ale on tap, expansive views of the town, mountains and mirror lake, walk to town in 2 minutes (but fortunately hotel itself is quiet), plenty of parking, roomy indoor swimming pool, very friendly staff, buffet breakfast with cooked to order eggs, a nearby private beach with lifeguard on Mirror Lake, their own beautiful golf courses a few minutes away and decent restaurants at all 3 of these locations. We also appreciated all the nicely landscaped grounds. Taking everything into consideration including the area and price range I'd say this hotel is an excellent value and that's why I gave it 5 stars.

Biker Friendly Hotel Excellent
Guiderider Jun 7, 2009
An excellent hotel! I have stayed there before and will continue to do so. Great view of Mirror lake, shuttle to downtown ... Lake Placid. Their Boat House resturant on the other side of the lake has great food. Our stay included a free breakfast that was also wonderful. I am a motorcyclist and the hotel is very biker friendly. In fact they welcome riders! I highly recommend this place. The price is a little high, but it is definately worth it! Nice bar over looking the lake and mountains.

The Crowne Plaza Lake Placid was a delightful hotel, well situated on a hill overlooking the lake and the end of town. Our ... room was large and comfortable...very well planned out with a small balcony Lake Placid is a fairly well-to-do resort and the hotel was priced well for its location. Our room was accross from the elevator and there was noise from that but otherwise we were satisfied.

Clean hotel, location ok if you are a driver
Adrienne Aug 28, 2008
The Crowne Plaza Resort in Lake Placid is fairly well maintained. The self-parking lots seem to have a sufficient capacity, ... also. Housekeeping did a good job, and there is a guest laundry room with 2 washers and 2 dryers (not the large sizes you see at a laundromat, though) that is convenient to use. The elevators are quite efficient. The problem I experienced was that twice during my week long stay, my room card keys had inexplicably been recoded, so I had to go back to the lobby, wait in line, and notify the front desk so that my room key could be recoded. I was never provided with a satisfactory answer as to why this was happening, and because of the location of my room, it was quite a walk (with all of my gear in hand) to/from the front desk. This hotel is at the top of a steep hill, and if you want to walk around Main Street, go to Mirror Lake, etc. you will need to be healthy enough and wearing walking shoes (not high heels). There is a shuttle that runs by, but I never had the patience to wait for it. My own preference is to stay at a hotel in the middle of Main Street, because it's then an easy walk to the movie theater, restaurants, cafes, shops, Mirror Lake, the boat rental dock, etc. There is street parking on Main Street, and a couple of very small metered parking lots, but the cost is $0.25 for 15 minutes, with a max of 2 hours. It can also be difficult to find parking here, and Main Street itself is very congested with people trying to find parking spaces. There is a place that sells 46 different sandwiches that I just discovered on this trip, and it's absolutely great! The bread is fresh from a bakery (definitely not the grocery store kind of thing) and the combinations are incredible. They also serve crepes, espresso drinks, smoothies, cookies... The Imaginarium is a wonderful toy store for kids and grownups alike, you'll be amazed at what they've got. The movie theater on Main Street is probably the only one I've ever been to that has tasty popcorn (and at prices that you don't ever see anymore at movie theaters)! They always seem to have current popular films showing, and always at least one film that is oriented to the kids.

The hotel affords a beautiful view of the mountains and lake. We enjoyed an excellent romantic dinner at the Veranda ... Restaurant- and a more family oriented meal at the Boathouse. Both restaurants are owned/ operated by the hotel and since the Boathouse was across the lake the hotel even provided a complimentary shuttle service to and from.

Great view when you come in gardens and entance. pool area nice, game room small. rooms clean but beds are like sleeping on ... wood, 2nd problem we stayed a third night got room 300 room has no view can see roof terrible, the plumbing drained slowly, room key cards lost memory, told front desk about the problem 2 times and they never sent anyone or apologised at check out, charged more got less for room 300. Room 207 was charged 20.00 per night for scenic view but a/c didnt work couldnt sleep on the hard beds and stiff pillow was really uncomfortable. told front desk about a/c they sent a repair man who tells me it justed frosted over like that means something all i know is room wouldn,t get cool, they out new unit in and it worked fine. room 207 was 1st 2 nites. check in sucked we got their early at 1 in aftermoon was told to come back as we were too early, same thing happend when we stayed over for the 3rd night had to come back to check into new room. the scenery is great and the kids loved the pool and hot water jacq. the waiters and bar tenders were 1st class, also on the desk at night 2 young guys on duty fixed a problem with my laptop software as it couldnt connect with free wireless at hotel they were awsome. i think they should have offered at least a discount on bill due to a/c concern, and water slow to drain and higher priced rood with terrible view i'g suggest getting ride of that room 300 turn it into something else. loved lake placid and crowne plaza hotel has great potential, food was pricey but very good.
