Weekend Stay at the Doubletree
Sleepiemel Nov 23, 2009
We picked this hotel for its location - close to the airport for an early departure but near enough to Palo Alto, where we ... spent most of our time. We mainly used the hotel for sleeping, and the guest rooms are nice sized and very clean: this is a solid 3 star hotel, and I would definitely recommend it for anyone needing a "home base" for a bay area trip. The staff is very friendly; they were even able to recommend a nearby playground for me to take my son (Coyote Point Park, for those with kids, is great - it has a gigantic playground and is only two miles or so from the hotel. There is a $5 entrance fee). We didn't use the fitness center because the bay trail runs past the hotel - my husband was able to get in a nine mile run. We did have a car and know the area well, so that made things easy for us. The biggest downside? The $16 daily parking fee.

Coyote Point Park is ~2 miles away and has two playgrounds: a smaller one for little kids and the larger "Magic Mountain" with, among many other things, a two story slide. $5 entrance fee.

Not what I've experienced before.

[...] Once in my room, I realized there was no soap with which to wash my hands...during flu season! After receiving some ... soap, I went to make a drink only to find there were no drinking glasses. After having some of those brought to the room, I found the previous patrons H------ honors credentials and perks left on the table, after having been denied mine! The room looked somewhat clean, but had it been? Finally, in an effort to get some air, I found the AC/heater unit non-operational. I will not be back.

Perhaps it was my fault, but I did not see any mention of an extra charge for parking ($16.00 per night) when I selected this ... hotel. That detail is annoying but it got worse... The front desk tried to put me in a room right in the middle of a floor that was being used for an "estate sale". There were all kinds of people (non-guests) coming and going. I insisted on being moved and the staff were annoyed at my request. The second room smelled like cigarettes and that spray that is used to try to cover up the smell. The hotel carpet is old, worn and stained. The lobby wi-fi did not work. When I told the front desk they sneered at me and refused to look into the problem. Here is the kicker... While on my stay the Bay Bridge was closed for emergency repairs. This unexpected problem really put a giant cramp in my daily commute (many extra driving hours each way). I asked the hotel to help me relocate to another Hilton property (perhaps in the East Bay?). They refused to help! They said I had paid in advance and they would ask me to forfeit over $90 per night for my final two out of four nights. I said I would stay, but told them I wold remember this lack of cooperation when making future travel plans.

No one was there to help with our bags and when we mentioned there were no carts no one bothered to help. The room was clean ... except for the bathroom floor. We had a very good rate so overall we would stay again to arrive or depart for the airport. There is not much in the area so you would need another hotel to see San Francisco

THE HOTEL HAS FREE SHUTTLE TO THE AIRPORT[...]!The hotel should advertise this feature more. The 2 places to eat either had food that was either pricey or a bar menu. Nothing "average" price.

Comfortable stay with a few caveats
BarbK100 Sep 26, 2009
During check-in, the clerk made several attempts to upsell us on more expensive rooms. This set a bad tone right from the ... start. If you rent a car, prepare for a daily $16 fee to park in their lot. Also, their computer center consists to two slow computers and few opportunities to get online. Exercise room is above average and, surprisingly, there was no additional fee to use it. Also, for those planning on seeing the sights downtown, prepare for a lengthy commute. We followed staff's recommendations to take the shuttle back to the airport and ride the Bay Area Rapid Transit "BART" into the city. I'd guess this took 90 minutes from hotel to downtown. The hotel shuttle was a great feature and we used it often. Also great: super comfortable beds with nice, clean bedding. The location is in a pretty quiet area with a few other hotels, so you won't get any "local flavor" by stepping out and walking around. Due to the economy, I think we received a very good rate on the room. If I were traveling for business, I'd return for another stay. If I visit again for leisure, I'd look for something closer to the action.

This trip was a mini-vacation for my husband and me and we did sight-seeing drives. We drove to the Golden Gate ... Bridge/Walked along the Bridge, visited the Fisherman's Wharf and more. The hotel was ideally located for everything that we wanted to do. This was our first trip together so there is nothing to compare it to but there was nothing that could have made it better, even the weather cooperated.

My Experience
mommy Aug 29, 2009
Everything was fine, the staff at check in was friendly and very nice. However, I was charged for two nights parking when I ... only parked for one night. When I explained it to the staff at check out, I received attitude and was chastised for saying that I needed parking for two nights when I checked in. I explained that I had attended a wedding the night before and someone had dropped me off at the hotel. The staff person eventually took the second night charge off of my bill, but not before she yelled at me about it.
