Not typical Marriott standards
anniversary couple Jan 15, 2010
We had an alright time, but had to move to another room as next door was noisy, then new room had poor hot water quality, and ... staff decided to remodel next door rooms bathroom at 9pm in the evening, needed to ask them to stop. Room service knocked on our door at 6:30 in morning, woke us up. So we feel this Marriott was not up to standards, ordinary, not 5 star

Hotel is very nice overall. Drawbacks would be the ridiculous FEES for just about everything. I called my credit card ... company beginning with (888) for approx. 4 minutes, and got stuck with a $15.59 bill. I'm upset b/c they don't even tell you the rates they would charge for calling an 888 number which says "toll free" on the back of my card. The hotel also charges $16 per night of parking if you have a rental car. $16???? come on.

Good location. Use the public transportation. You can go to almost everything for a couple of bucks. Bus stop is 1/2 block ... down from the hotel. Taxi's are very expensive. Restaurant is very, very expensive. There are great restaurants located up and down the street of the hotel. See the sites. Staff is very friendly and always helpful with bus schedules and just about anything else. Casinos, as one would expect, is a ripoff. Only use if you have the money to Lose

Walgeens very close and you can buy some groceries like yogurt, juice, milk, etc. "Charlie" car rental across the street is cheaper than Hertz and Starbucks also across the street. A small natural food restaurant about three blocks away where you can get fruit salad with yogurt and gronola.

Big Family Christmas Trip
lynnk Dec 23, 2009
Loved San Juan, and the Marriott was perfect for the 16 of us, ranging from age 3 to 65+. Spent much time on the beach and in ... the casino. Casino staff could have been friendlier, and at times there weren't enough table games open, but on the whole the casino was a nice size and the slots paid out regularly. Terrific restaurants, all sizes and prices, very close by.

Miro was a wonderful, upscale restaurant, and we were never disappointed at the smaller places, either. All basically across the street. Restaurant buffets in the hotel were good, but slightly expensive.

Great hotel - Food and drinks in the hotel were expensive, which was expected. However, the service was great as all of the ... staff were friendly. The fitness center was above average. Many great resturants are within easy walking distance. Beach is kinda small, but the ocean view from the rooms is great. Didn't try out the casino. Book a package that gets your breakfast included. The breakfast buffet is super expensive!

Very nice property, they treated us well, upgraded us to a balcony room w/ view of the ocean. The view was spectacular ... (except for an abandoned and graffiti-laden high-rise building about two blocks away that was a true eyesore[*]). Would definitely go back given the chance.

Great location for a relaxing vacation!
Jennifer Dec 6, 2009
My sister and I loved this hotel! The pool area was clean, quiet, and well staffed. The beach was steps away from the hotel ... and had a team of people working there to make sure guests had chairs, umbrellas, and cold drinks. There is a massage therapist with a table set up on the hotel beach every day. He gives good massages for much less than the hotel spa! The staff at the hotel bar was friendly and very helpful in recommending places to eat and to dance in Old San Juan (about 15 minutes away by bus/taxi), in Isla Verde (about 8 minutes away), in Santurce (about 8 minutes), and in the area right around the hotel (many places in walking distance). We had a great vacation and are planning to go back to this hotel on our next visit to San Juan!
Traveler type: Friends
Take the bus! Just a half a block from the hotel entrance(across from the Walgreen's) there is a bus stop. For only 75 cents, you can get the bus to Old San Juan. It makes only a few stops and so doesn't take much longer than a taxi. Plus, it saves you about $14!

Not too impressed
Eddy Dec 3, 2009
I was upset that we were put on the second floor of the hotel. We asked to be moved to a different floor and the desk ... attendant said there would be no additional charge. When we signed out they charged us and additional $50.00 per night. I will likely not use this again due to being put on the second floor for our vacation. Is that why there is savings involved? We ended up paying more in the long run. Room smelled like mildew.

Excellent beds for a great night sleep!! Enjoyed our stay, room was a bit small, but hotel is very nice and the staff are ... extremely helpful. Definitely go for the oceanfront room, you won't be disappointed. Very nice fitness center. Pools are nice, but shaded by too many surrounding trees. Best beach in the area. Restaurants are very good. Overall, nice place to stay.

--Michael, Malverne, NY Sep 29, 2009
We spent most of our time on the beach, but we did take a trip to Old San Juan one day. If you go, we recommend that you take a taxi or bus to get there. Driving and parking in Old San Juan is insane. We took a taxi and are glad we did. We go on vacation to relax, and navigating around there looked to be very stressful. We didn't rent a car for our trip. We took a cab to and from the airport and on our trip to Old San Juan. Then we walked to dinner every night and to Walgreen's to get drinks and snacks everyday. That worked out best for us.
--Midwest travelers, Dayton, Ohio Sep 27, 2009
Hertz has a rental counter in the hotel and they will deliver the vehicle to you. We rented a jeep for the day for about $100 to go exploring. Otherwise, there are always taxis waiting. Old San Juan is only $15 away.
