Hotel location is on a bay with calm waters. Hotel has small beach with rocks on the side where fish are fed twice a day. For ... snorkelers, there are some wrecks not far off the beach. Being November, water was cool and visibility not great. Food was inventive and tasty-great thanksgiving dinner. Atmosphere is more dressed up than resort hotels. Crystal and Fantasy caves are a short walk from the hotel as well as the Swizzler Rum Inn. Other than that, this is a bit off the beaten path with not much for nightlife. Bus service is cheap, clean and takes you all over the island for a $ 12 pass per person.

As with two previous stays at Grotto Bay, the hotel is beautiful, my room was awsome with incredible view overlooking the ... ocean. Each meal was better than the previous and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Traveling alone to contemplate and rest - Grotto Bay is the place! It is near the airport and has very easy access to any place on the island. The room was always clean and the bed was comfortable - I slept and napped VERY well.

The Hotel and Hotel restaurants were very nice and convenient. The beach and pool area were exellent for relaxing, snorkeling ... or swimming. The hotel location was relatively far from most of the attractions on the island. Luckily the bus stop was very close.

This was like a Red Roof Inn in Bermuda. The staff was very nice, but the space wasn't. There is no beach to speak of - it ... is on the bay with just a few feet of sand. The pool closed at 3 PM, along with the bar. The Concierge sent us to dinner at a nasty pub. what was to like?

Great location. Great snorkeling right at the hotel. The crystal caves on the property are unique. The food was fantastic and ... the meal plan was definitely convenient. Rooms were always kept very clean and the staff was very helpful and friendly. The only bad experience were "hold charges" that were put on my credit card in excess of $2000 when the trip was prepaid. If these were run at the end of a credit card cycle, it would have been a nightmare. The charges were washed off about 5 days after we returned - but I do not understand the need for this at all when everything was prepaid and settled when we checked out.

Great Time at Grotto Bay!
Happy Traveler Aug 5, 2009
The beach, pool and bar/restaurants were conveniently located. The room was very nice and clean and the balcony view of the ... bay was spectacular! Great place for kids and active adults: snorkeling on two off -shore wrecks, a water sports shop to rent snorkel gear, boats, kayaks etc., and two caves on the premises to explore. You could actually swim in one of the caves. Great location! Just a short walk to moped rentals, bus stops, ice cream shop, general store and The Swizzle Inn. About a 10 minute walk to Fantasy and Crystal Caves ( a must see).St George is about a 10 minute bus ride and Hamilton is about a 20 minute bus ride. The Aquarium/Zoo is about a 10 minute ride. Bus service is efficient and air-conditioned. I recommend buying a bus pass which allows you on all busses and ferries. The activities staff were well informed and very helpful. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer. It was the best trip that our family has been on so far!

Poor Service and Food
CES Aug 3, 2009
I understand that the prices are high at resorts. I don't mind paying if there is commensurate value. The food was over ... priced and of poor quality. To say the food was sub-standard would be an understatement. I am generally not a complainer and rarely fill out surveys, but the dining experiences (all of them) were so poor that I felt compelled to express the dissatisfaction. The most friendly staff members were from housekeeping. They genuinely cared about our comfort. The front desk staff, (with the exception of [...]) was uninterested and rude. My fiance asked for a clean iron to press her wedding dress and it took three requests before we received cooperation. The island is beautiful and we are looking forward to returning. However, we will pass on Grotto Bay.

The Grotto Bay was a very good value.Searched all over and got best rate on Orbitz by far.No hidden cost only the per day ... service charge of $10 PP which was clearly listed on reservation. Was also able to increase discount by using Mastercard Orbitz coupon!!! The staff was very friendly and helpful. We did not do all inclusive as we like to travel around. The all inclusive price seemed way too high for us. is.Only used hotel for breakfast. Airport noise is not an Issue. Bus service right at entrance to hotel very easy to travel around by bus.The hotel is a little out of the way between Hamilton and St Georges. Swizzle Inn also very close. If you are looking for a good value this is a good choice. No bells and whistles but very nice for the price.

Mixed Feelings
Beach Lover Jul 13, 2009
The resort as a whole wasn't bad but there are certain items that make me not want to go back. The room was damp & had ... mold/mildew on the ceiling and in the corners. I had a massage which was really good but the "spa" is nothing but a guest room with massage tables in it. I could hear the guests next door the entire time. The housekeeping...although you paid extra per day per person, the housekeepers are not shy about telling you what time they get off of work. If you want to sleep in, you may not get your room cleaned. Although Bermuda is a British island, there were a lot of Americans on the property and the resort did not have any lively activities during our 4th of July visit. You definitely have to go into the city of Hamilton for any type of nightlife.

Great trip to a great island...
mertmason Jul 5, 2009
This was a much needed R&R trip to Bermuda. The island is clean, the people are friendly and the landscape is beautiful. ... Grotto Bay Beach Hotel is a nice place to stay. It's close to the airport and easy to get to other parts of the island from its location. The rooms were clean and well kept up. This is not a high end hotel with flat screen tvs or state of the art fitness center. It's more of a boutique type resort. There was a good mix of people staying at the resort, the pool area was crowded at times, but still enjoyable. I recommend either renting a scooter or getting a bus/ferry pass to explore the rest of the island. We were able to enjoy the pool and beach area of the hotel, in addition to seeing Hamilton, driving to Dockyard and riding over to St. George's. Eat at the Swizzle Inn and have some ice cream from the cute shop just a block or two from the resort. It was a great trip and I look forward to returning.

Great location with friendy and very helpful staff. Rooms were old and drab and in need of significant updating. Bathrooms ... were much to small with no surface space to place shaving cream, deoderant, razor, shampoo, toothpaste, etc for 2 people. Since we did not have to spend much time in our room, we did enjoy our short stay at the Grotto Bay Resort. For the price,I would NOT recommend this Resort until they invest in more grounds maintenance and room updating and redesign.

Great location
Linda May 25, 2009
The best thing about Grotto Bay is the breath taking views from your room. All the rooms face the bay so there really isn't ... a bad view anywhere. The location is also great because you are only a short bus ride from Hamilton or St. George. This is a wonderful place to just relax and unwind reading at the beach or taking a dip in the heated pool while enjoying a drink at the pool bar. The breakfasts are very good and so are the lunches. The buffet dinner that we attended was very poor and I would not recommend the buffets as they are not replenished often and if you have a later sitting you will have a lot of picked over food. The Crystal Caves are a short walk from the hotel and very worth seeing. There is also helmut diving that leaves from St. George and is an exciting underwater experience. The ferries and buses can take you anywhere on the island and are very convient.

I would recommend the bus ride into Hamilton. Many fine restaurants, including the Trottaria (Italian with outstanding pizza) and the Hog Penny (English pub fare) are available. Also, a short cab ride to the south shore for the North Rock Brewing Company will satisfy a craving for both excellant seafood and outstanding microbrewed ales.
