Awesome resort but has some problems
Honeymooners Dec 28, 2009
Overall we had a wonderful time. There are eight restaurants but 2 are closed nightly. The 850 sq ft room with two person ... rain shower was awesome. Problem with the room strong musty odor, hard beds you can feel the springs pressing against your body and the toilet is located right behind the bed so you hear your spouse using the bath room. Many of the quest that we met complained about the musty odor in the room. One couple paid over 5000 for the upgraded reserve suite and odor was so strong it burned his nose. Our travel date December 21-27 2009 and most guest complained that the pools were very cold and jacuzzi was just warm. The beach was horrible. Too much seaweed. I attempted to enjoy the beach but once i came out my body was covered with sea-weed.The resort staff attempted to clean the beach but it made it worse. If the opportunity at a great price point presented itself I would return but not during the winter and although most rooms are musty the resort is willing to move you until you find a fresh room. We stayed in building 6 but had to move to building 5. The couple I mentioned stayed in building 8(prime location)

Great Resort!
Happy traveler Dec 27, 2009
We absolutely loved the Excellence Resort at Playa Mujeres. I can't imagine a better place to spend your Cancun trip at. We ... went looking for rest and relaxation and to be a little "pampered" for a week in Mexico and that's exactly what we got... plus we got great food and drinks, fun entertainment, excellent pool and facilities, and an amazing room with beautiful shower, hot tub, balcony, bed, tv and more. You really have no reason to even leave the resort (except to go visit the Mayan ruins). I can't recommend this place more. We'll definitely be returning!

IowaCouple Dec 12, 2009
We looked for a place to rest, watch the ocean and be pampered for a relationship recharging getaway. We were not ... disappointed in any way! When we arrived at the resort, we were greeted with a glass of champagne and the words, "Welcome, home." That's not how it works at our home but it was a great start to a vacation. We had no complaints during our stay and would rank this trip (our second to Excellence) at the top of the all-inclusive resort brands we have visited so far including Dreams, Iberostar and Occidental Grand.

Barb Dec 2, 2009
Overall, this was a great vacation. The staff, for the most part, was very friendly and welcoming. I definitley recommend the ... Excellence experience. The rooms did smell a little musty and the beach was not very nice, but if you are looking to lay by the pool or ocean and enjoy some drinks, this is a great resort. The food quality depends on where you go. I would not recommend the Flavor Market, but I highly recommend Chex Isabelle. There is lots to do at the resort, but if you are staying for a week, I would do one or two excursions. We did Chichen Itza (a long day, but well worth it) and also the Selvatica Zipline which was awesome.

Mags Nov 30, 2009
Just 3 days there but managed to relax by the pool, enjoy the great room, it was our anniversary so there was champagne in ... the room waiting for us. The lunch and breakfast buffets were great - a wide selection and it was all extremely fresh. Entertainment in the evenings was very good - very much enjoyed the Michael Jackson show. Drank lots of alcohol - the cocktails were great and kept on coming. Would recommend this resort to friends and family.

Not all restaurants are open all nights so plan your evening meals to maximise the restaurants in the hotel - French and Mexican were very enjoyable. Didn't think that much of the tapas restaurant.

The location was very nice, removed from the noise and bustle of Cancun which we don't really care for. The staff could not ... have been any nicer and took care of all our needs. I will say that the room service breakfast stayed in the x-box a little longer than I expected and should have been removed the next day.The grounds were beautiful and the food was excellent. It seemed as though the whole staff was there to please you. The spa was beautiful and one of the best that I have used. The time of the season was just perfect - not too many people- and the weather was great. Everywhere you looked the staff was busy working on something to make the resort a first class area. Truly satisified as much as you can be to the extent that all 8 of us plan to return next year.

Best value for your money
Monkey-man Nov 22, 2009
My wife and I have been travelling to Mexico for the past 15 years staying at several resorts and this was by far the best ... value for the money. The resort caters to what you are looking for; peace and quiet = yes; drinking / partying = yes; Good food and great drinks = yes; nightlife from an on the beach lounge to a dance club, game rooms, live entertainment, etc.... the spa is top notch, staff as friendly as can be and will go out of their way to make sure you are catered to. A couple of things to note: the pillows are uncomfortable; the bathroom is of glass so your partner will see & hear everything. Overall this resort exceeded every expectation we had for our vacation and our expectations are high since we have always favored Royal Hideaway....but I think that has now changed to EPM!

One recommendation is not to waste money on the swim up rooms....you'll never use and the standard room is exactly the same and for less money.

Excellence Playa Mueres Review Nov 20, 2009
We stayed on the resort most of the time and enjoyed the beach, pool, and dining. The only small thing missing was that they ... did not have ESPN...therefore I missed the Nebraska game, but that was not that important. This was by far the best trip I have ever taken, my biggest mistake was not staying longer.

The only heads up I would give is when the driver picks you up at the airport, it should be a 25 min straight shot on the fwy..verify this before you leave with them. It took us an hour to get to the hotel because the driver took us through the hotel zone to drop of one other couple 1st...not so pleasant after flying for 5 hrs. The beautiful resort quickly made up for this inconvenience.
